Chapter 100: jealousy that burns deep
“You look dashing,” Damien said, looking at Rose. She almost flushed but just looked down, not knowing what to say.
She didn’t know if she was attracted to him or if it was because of the mate bond.
Right now, she and he were in her movie industry.
She had made a decision, and that’s why she was very accepting of Damien. It all started…
[Flashback]
After she had taken Tobi for ice cream, Rose sat Tobi on the bed and asked him,
“Honey, why are you like this? You have been so down ever since I picked you up from school,” Rose asked, rubbing Tobi’s hair.
Tobi looked at her with small eyes as if thinking of what to say.
“It’s… Mummy, I want a daddy. Do I have a father?” Tobi asked, playing with his small little finger as if he wanted to take back his words.
Rose’s heart stopped, like it would leap out of her chest the moment she heard his words.
Father. Tobi was talking about a father. Why was he suddenly talking about that?
“Mummy, don’t I have a father?” Tobi asked, looking up at Rose, who had a panicked expression. He didn’t like the way his classmates called him bad words, how they laughed at him, and how the teacher ignored him and only said sorry.
Rose sighed, not knowing what to say to Tobi. It was a difficult situation. Answering Tobi’s question would mean talking about Rolan, and she didn’t want to talk about him. But she couldn’t stay silent and leave Tobi hanging. She needed to tell him something—at least say something.
Rose bit her lips, looking at Tobi. Her lips moved to say something, but then they closed, opened, and closed again. Her hand found Tobi’s hair, rubbing it once more. Tobi was looking at her, expecting to hear words from her.
Rose gulped and finally said,
“Dear, you have a father.”
Tobi’s question today made her realize that her son couldn’t be without a father—he needed one. But it was not Rolan. Her mind started drifting off to Damien. It was a daring thought, but… she couldn’t help it. Rolan was her mate, after all.
“Honey, is there anything else you would like to tell me?” Rose changed the subject, looking deeply into Tobi’s eyes, seeing that he still had something to say.
Tobi looked down at his fingers as if he was thinking about whether to tell Rose what was left in his mind.
“They called me a bastard,” Tobi said, but then burst into tears the moment he finished talking.
Rose’s heart broke seeing this, and she couldn’t bear it—she hugged him tightly.
Inside, she was fuming. How dare someone call her son that? Her son had a father! Such words should never be said to a child. What was wrong with the children of these days? Their mouths were more poisonous than anything she could ever think of.
Tobi was just a little kid. They shouldn’t have said such a word to him.
“It’s okay, Tobi, my son. Who are those damn children? Everything is okay. You have a father. You exist.”
Rose comforted Tobi.
Later, he fell asleep. Rose stared into the void, her mind empty yet filled with thoughts.
She had realized that Tobi needed a father, and that father was not going to be Rolan.

“How is the casting going?” Mr. Kelvin Klein appeared from the corner of the studio with a cold expression.

Rose carried an awkward expression—she didn’t know how to face Mr. Kelvin now, especially with the fact that she was his brother’s mate.
“They are all fine, it’s all good,” Rose nodded, looking at the sheets in her hand.
“Today, we are collecting the last numbers of candidates who will join the game.”
A smile spread on her face as she spoke.
Mr. Kelvin nodded, listening to her explain.
“Anyway, forget about business now. What’s up with you and my brother?” asked Mr. Kelvin, his eyebrow now carrying a deeper furrow.
Rose bit her lips, the palms of her hands sweating as she forced herself to stay in control—
not to act weird.
“Me… me and your brother? Nothing is going on with me and him,” Rose said, turning her eyes to look elsewhere.
Mr. Kelvin raised a brow and then nodded his head.
Rose wanted to take a deep breath of relief, but then Damien came back, holding a package for her.
“For the princess.”
Rose cursed in her heart, and she then looked at Mr. Kelvin innocently.
“What is going on?” Mr. Kelvin said, looking back and forth between Rose and Damien.
“Wait… are you trying to be my sister-in-law?” Mr. Kelvin said, widening his eyes as if he had just unlocked a realization.
The awkward beads of sweat on Rose’s forehead came out further. Rose controlled herself and stopped herself from biting her tongue.
What Kelvin said was right—she was indeed trying to make Damien her son’s father, so she was trying to be his sister-in-law. But she couldn’t bluntly admit it.
“Kelvin,” Damien just called in a low voice.
Mr. Kelvin looked at him, raising his brow before sighing.
“I give up. The things between you two are none of my business.
But Rose, Rose is still under me. It doesn’t mean that I’ll give you some extreme respect just because you’re dating my brother or whatever.”
Rose smiled awkwardly, listening to Mr. Kelvin’s awkward talk. It was what she wanted to do, and Damien knew her intentions. They were just trying to make themselves comfortable right now, even though fate had thought of them as compatible and made the mates bond.

The veins on Rolan’s head couldn’t pop up further.
He hid behind the pillars of Rose’s movie company as he got in, watching all the interactions between Rose and Damien.
He furrowed his brows, trying to control the weird feeling building up inside him. He didn’t want to overthink. He didn’t want his irregular emotions to take over on this one.
“Who is that man?” Rolan mumbled, his eyes still focused on Damien and Rose.
It reached the part where Rose almost tripped and fell due to some object in the studio, and Damien caught her tightly by the waist.
Rolan’s every nerve burned in the hand that held Rose’s waist.
