Chapter 129: Mommy abandoned us
“Have you found out who’s after Rose?” he asked, holding his phone while standing on the terrace. The wind blew around him as the call connected.
The man on the other end replied, “No, Alpha. We haven’t found any solid information. Whoever’s behind this knows exactly how to cover their tracks. We don’t know where they are, or even who they are. It’s like they’ve erased their existence.”
Rolan narrowed his eyes. He knew he had to keep digging. Whoever this person was, they were a real threat. And Rose… Rose could be harmed.
“We have to do everything we can to protect him,” Rolan said firmly.
The man on the phone agreed. “Yes, Alpha. We’re keeping a close eye on Rose. But I also think the person with him… she might be a supernatural. You need to stay sharp. Very sharp.”
“I know,” Rolan interrupted coldly. “I know I need to protect her. I will protect her. And nothing—not anyone or anything—is going to stop me from doing that.”
The call ended.
Rolan walked back into the house, collapsing onto the couch. He pulled his laptop next to him, trying to get some work done. But he was too exhausted, his body begging for rest. His mind wandered.
Then his phone rang.
It was Jennifer.
He answered. “Hello, Jennifer?”
“Rolan, where are you?” Her voice cut through the speaker, sharp and tense.
Rolan raised a brow. Was that how she always spoke to him?
“I’m busy. On a business trip.”
“Exactly where?” Jennifer pressed, her tone laced with impatience.
Jennifer clenched her jaw, frustrated. She hadn’t gotten the answer she wanted. Grinding her teeth, she stared at her reflection. She needed to know his exact location. She had to get to Rolan before the effects of the potion wore off. The longer she stayed away, the more likely it was he’d drift out of her control.
“Rolan, dear,” she cooed, trying to soften her voice, “come on, tell me where you are. You know you miss me.”
Jennifer wished—no, needed—to be near Rolan. Everything worked better when they were close. When she was near, she could control him easily. But
Before she could speak to him again, she had him under her possession—her influence already rising within him. But this time, she couldn’t get close. Rolan was starting to drift away, and she couldn’t let that happen.
“I don’t understand you, Jennifer,” Rolan said, his voice laced with confusion. “You sound… different today. I’ll talk to you later, alright?”
He ended the call, a strange feeling settling in his chest. Jennifer didn’t sound like the kind, innocent woman he always thought she was. She had been his best friend. But now? Now, she felt like a stranger.
On the other end of the line, Jennifer stared at her phone—before hurling it at the wall. It shattered with a loud crack.
“How dare he end the call on me like that? How dare he?” she hissed, gritting her teeth.
A servant in the mansion paused at the sound but quickly scurried away, not daring to intervene.
“Rolan, dear…” she muttered with a twisted smile. “You think you know me? I will find you. I won’t let my sister Rose win. She can’t have you. She won’t steal you from me. You’re mine.”
Jennifer clenched her fists, her long, blood-red nails digging into her palms.

“Where is Mommy?” Darius asked, arms crossed, looking at Tobi.
Tobi fumbled with his small hands, sitting on the fluffy light-blue bed. “I thought you wouldn’t miss her…” he whispered. “But me too. I miss Mommy very much.”
Darius’s voice echoed softly. “Mommy hasn’t called in a long time. I miss her so much.”

“Mommy abandoned us,” Tobi said, his voice a quiet murmur, almost like he was about to cry. His cheeks puffed out slightly in frustration and sorrow as he looked at Darius.
“Did Mommy leave us? I wanna see her…” Tobi said, and a tear finally rolled down his cheek.
“We miss Mommy. Let’s go to her!”
Tobi suddenly jolted awake from a nightmare. In the dream, something terrible had happened to his mommy. Bad people with magic powers had taken her. They tied her to an altar… and set fire to it.
He woke up crying, his small body shaking. His grandfather had comforted him thirty minutes ago and tucked him in. But now he was awake again, disturbed and overwhelmed.
He missed his mommy so badly. He wanted to be next to her, to be her little hero. Her superman. To protect her from those bad people.
Tobi climbed out of bed on his short, unsteady legs and walked toward the large window. His eyes stared out into the night. He wanted to find her.
“I’ll run away,” he mumbled to himself. “I’ll go look for Mommy.”
That thought made him smile.
“Yes,” he whispered, “I’ll go to Mommy.”
With determination, he grabbed the windowsill and began climbing down. But before he could get far, a strong arm grabbed him by the back of his pajama pants and lifted him up.
“Ah! Let me go! Who are you?!” Tobi shouted, kicking his little feet in the air.
“Grandson, where are you going?” Mr. Stewart asked, looking at the little boy with concern. He couldn’t understand why Tobi was trying to jump out the window or why he was even awake in the middle of the night.
Tobi kept wiggling, trying to escape from the hold—until he turned and saw it was his grandfather. Only then did he calm down.
“I wanted to go to Mommy,” he said, pouting his lips.
Mr. Stewart looked at him with sad eyes and offered a soft smile.
“You want to see your mommy? She’s alright, my boy. She’ll come back for you when she can. You don’t need to be scared. Don’t you want to stay with Grandpa a little longer?”
He gently brushed Tobi’s messy hair.
“Can you tell me more about why you wanted to go to your mommy?” Mr. Stewart asked, using a gentle tone to distract the child from his fear.
Tobi nodded his small head, and Mr. Stewart led him back to the small bed. He tucked him in and folded his arms, sitting beside him.
“Alright now, can you give me more details?”
Tobi sniffled. “I’m scared. Mommy hasn’t called me for a long time. If I don’t call her, she doesn’t call me. I miss her… and the bad dreams keep scaring me.”
Mr. Stewart furrowed his brows in concern. Such nightmares weren’t normal. Things were starting to feel… strange.
Although he wasn’t the type to get involved with the supernatural, being married to an arrogant she-wolf had taught him not to ignore certain signs.
“You should calm down and stay strong, Tobi,” he said gently. “Your mommy is going to come back soon. Nothing bad will happen to her—I believe that. You should pray for her, alright? Don’t be sad.”
“Shall we pray?” Mr. Stewart added softly, rubbing Tobi’s hair.
Tobi looked up at his grandfather with wide, round eyes. Then he nodded.
“Okay… let’s pray.”
He put his tiny hands together, ready to start.
