Chapter 131: Flying sparks
“See, the sun is so nice and lovely,” Rolan sighs at the end, gently pushing Rose’s wheelchair along the white, sandy beach.
Rose squints and slowly lifts her head to glance at him.
She clenches her fists, her heart racing.
Was Rolan pretending nothing had happened? That he didn’t see the arrow that was meant to hurt her?
He acted so calm…
Her face tightens in a frown as she turns her head again to look at him.
Rolan chuckles, catching her gaze.
“You’ve been staring at me. What is it, Rose? Is it that you find me handsome—too handsome and irresistible?”
Rose pauses, her lips trembling.
“You saw the arrow, right? It was meant to destroy me.”
“Don’t you think so too, Yuna?”
She turns inward, speaking to the wolf inside her.
“That thing was definitely meant for us. Rose, how could anyone want to hurt us? We’re pure souls.”
Yuna’s voice is dramatic, serious, but with a faint smile curling at the edge of her lips. Her eyes turn cold as she focuses on Rolan again.
“You seem happy talking to your wolf, but when it comes to me, you’re frowning. I’m the one helping you right now, at least give me a smile.”
“No, you don’t deserve it,” Rose snaps.
Rolan pauses, then his lips curl into a smirk.
“Okay, I’ll listen to you, dear Rose.”
As Rolan continued pushing the wheelchair, a little girl ran toward them.
“Miss, you’re very pretty,” the girl said, eyes wide with admiration.
Rose stared blankly at the girl who had approached her.
“You think I’m pretty?”
“Yes, miss. You’re still beautiful even if your legs are hurt.”
That comfort… it reached something deep inside her.
For a moment, she didn’t feel so bad anymore.
“Thank you, little girl. You made my day,” Rose smiled, brushing the girl’s soft hair.
“Rolan, do you th—”
“Yes?” he replied quickly, hearing her call.
“I want to continue with the therapy. I don’t want to stay like this.”
“You won’t. I told you, you’re going to get better. Nothing bad will happen to you, okay?”

“Well… I agree with you. I just want to heal,” she said softly, turning her head away.
It didn’t matter if it was Rolan helping her. As long as she got better, she didn’t need to hate him. Hating him now would just be stupid.
Without Rolan, everything would be twice as hard.
“So, you want to take a look at the fish in the sea?”
“Why would I want to look at fish?” she mumbled, though her heart knew she didn’t really mind.
She wanted to see a fish.
She heard Rolan chuckle above her.
“You’ll see one anyway,” he said with a grin.
She claimed she didn’t care about the fish—but deep down, she just wanted to see them. And he knew it.
His laughter grew quietly in his chest, warm and soft.
The wheelchair wheels rolled over the sand, trailing faint lines behind them as Rolan pushed her closer to the sea.
Rose’s eyes were fixed on the water, betraying her earlier denial.
She had said she wasn’t interested, but the moment her gaze caught a rainbow-colored fish floating near the surface, her heart skipped.
A/N: Ignore my weird fish creation.
“That fish is so pretty,” Rose mumbled, stretching her hand toward it, as if she could reach into the waves and touch it.
The fish swam even closer, its colors glimmering in the morning light.
“Isn’t it afraid of humans?” she wondered out loud, smiling faintly.
That fish… it was brave. Courageous.
“In case you didn’t know, that type of fish is actually poisonous. And not exactly friendly,” Rolan said casually. “I wonder why it’s so close to you.”
He chuckled, watching the fish brush against her legs—though she didn’t even flinch. She hadn’t felt a thing.
“Well… it’s a beautiful kind of poison.”
“Yeah,” Rose whispered. “Just like me, huh?”
She snapped her gaze to him.
“In what way am I poison?!”
“Sorry,” Rolan grinned sheepishly. “I didn’t mean it like that.”
He rubbed the back of his neck, his smile crooked.
“It better be,” Rose muttered, narrowing her eyes.
—
Far away…
“Switzerland…” a man mumbled, fumbling with an elegant glass cup in his veiny hand.
“So this is where you’ve taken her, Rolan. You think I’ll never find her?”
His voice was a cold whisper.
“I’ll find her.”
“My mate… I’ll save you from him. Hope you give me a reward.” Damian muttered under his breath, eyes dark with obsession.
—
Back at the beach…
“Rose, do you feel it—the sun rising in the sky?” Rolan asked.
Rose yawned, her eyes drifting to the horizon.
He had kept her awake just to see the sunrise.
Didn’t he realize how exhausted she was?
Yes, the sky was beautiful—but she would have rather slept. She had ordered her body to sleep, but he had stolen that peace from her.
“Rolan, take us back.”
“Always hate the beauty, huh?” Rolan teased.
Rose lifted her head and looked at him.
“I’m just exhausted, Rolan. I don’t want to go anywhere. I want to sleep here.”
“Well, lucky for you… I brought stuff.” He chuckled. “I prepared everything.”
Rolan walked back to the car and returned with a portable bed.
It took him ten minutes to set it up.
When he was done, he lifted Rose from the wheelchair. Her arms instinctively wrapped around his neck.
He laid her gently on the bed.
The whole time, her eyes never left him.
“What is it, Rose?” he asked softly.
“The sun… it’s kind of bashful from this view,” she said, eyes half-closed as she looked toward the sky. “But it’s pretty.”
Rolan nodded in agreement.
But he wasn’t looking at the sun.
He was looking at her—with deep, silent emotions in his eyes.
Like she was his whole world.
Like he would do anything for her.
When Rolan didn’t care about someone, he was cold—polite, but distant.
But when he fell hard, truly hard… he’d do anything for them.
For Rose.
“You’re so beautiful,” he murmured softly.
Rose blinked at him, giving him a blank stare in return.
She frowned moments later, her gaze lingering on him in silence for what felt like forever.
What would you do, Rolan… if you knew I had died because of you in my past life?
Would you still be this confident, this gentle? Would you feel guilty?
Dark thoughts rolled in her heart like thunderclouds, silent but heavy.
“Rolan,” she called his name faintly.
He was so close now—his breath brushed her face.
Just a little closer and they’d kiss.
