Chapter 140: saviour
Rose lay on her bed, her eyes closed, peacefully sleeping. Suddenly, a hand covered her nose, making her struggle in her sleep. Her eyes snapped open, and in the darkness, she met a pair of golden eyes. Her vision was still blurry. She struggled to free herself from the person’s hand blocking her mouth.
Finally, she saw the person who had covered her mouth. She wanted to call out their name, but their hand was still blocking her mouth. When they released her, she gasped, “Damien, you’re here?”
Rose couldn’t believe it. “Damien, you’re here. I didn’t know you’d reach me.” Her mind immediately wondered how the man got there, since Rolan secured the area and escape seemed impossible.
Damien took a deep breath. “I came to tell you I’ve been searching for you for a long time, and I couldn’t find you. Finally, I’ve seen you, Rose.”
Rose blinked, pushing her hair behind her ear.
“I can’t believe you found me. What about Roland? Does he know you’re here? If he sees you trying to take me away from this place… what will he do to you?”
Damien smiled. “I’m not scared of Roland, Rose. I came here to save you. You’ve been missing, and everyone is worried. Zara is especially worried.”
Rose sighed, clutching her shirt.
“I really wanted to escape, Damien. I thought no one would ever find me,” she whispered, afraid someone might hear.
“Well, I finally did. So we’re leaving this place—tonight,” Damien said firmly.
Rose looked at him with a small smile.
“How did you even get here? Tell me.”
“It’s a long story,” Damien replied. “I climbed over the fence.”
Rose’s eyes widened in shock.
“You climbed the fence? The one with the electric shock?!”
Damien chuckled. “Yeah, it has electricity. I saw the wires. I knew it could shock me, but I still went through it. At least now I get to see you—and save you.”
“Are you hurt anywhere?” Rose asked, her eyes full of concern.
“No, not really. I just feel sore all over,” Damien said.
Rose felt a pang of guilt. Because of her, he had gotten hurt.
“Let me treat you,” she offered.
Shut up. You’re talking like you’re madly in love with him.
Her wolf’s voice echoed inside her.
Now’s not the time.
Maybe I just care about him because he’s my friend, she snapped back internally. I don’t love him or anything.
She rolled her eyes. “You’re not saying anything now, huh?” she muttered to herself.
“Now that you’re here, how are we going to get out? I’m sure Rolan will catch us the moment we try to escape,” Rose said with conviction.
Damien took her hand.
“I’m going to get you out of here. Don’t be scared of Roland—or anyone else. Not anymore. I made it here, didn’t I? So I’ll get us both out.”
“How’s Zara? Is she okay? She must be really worried about me,” Rose asked.
Damien chuckled. “You really know your friend. She’s extremely worried. I heard she’s even fighting with her boyfriend because of this.”

“Her boyfriend?” Rose blinked. “So you’ve seen him too…”
She frowned, wondering why Zara had never mentioned having a boyfriend….though she has seen her alot of time with a particular man.
“Rose, we need to get out of here. Why are you so scared?”
Ah—Damien spoke, bitterness thick in his chest, but even so, his heart was still good.
He couldn’t help it—he was jealous. Rose had history with Rolan. Real, lingering history. And Damien? He had nothing. But this wasn’t the time to fall apart. This wasn’t about feelings. It was about survival. He needed to be ready—prepared to escape and leave Rolan behind. Let that lonely bastard rot in this place.
Rose looked at Damien, her eyes clouded. She didn’t know why she was hesitating. This was it. Her chance. Her freedom. No more chains. No more being a captive.
So why the hell did she feel so torn?
“You’re hesitating like an idiot,” her mind snapped at her. “Why don’t you know what’s best for you?”
Damien noticed. “Rose… what are you overthinking? This is it. Your chance. Rolan isn’t here. Everyone’s probably asleep. So why are you hesitating?”
“Why am I hesitating?” Rose whispered under her breath.
She didn’t know.
She had been stuck in this place with Rolan for so long… and somehow, she’d gotten attached. She hated the thought, but it was there. Was it Stockholm syndrome?
Rolan hadn’t touched her much, hadn’t harassed her, not after that one moment. Since then, he’d been… gentle. Kind, even. He’d protected her. Helped her. Saved her from an enemy that would’ve killed her. He’d been caring. Without Jennifer’s interference, there was no obvious reason to hate him.
And now? Now she was actually sympathizing with him. Sympathizing. What the hell was wrong with her?
She was thinking soft. Like she actually liked Rolan. Like she’d fallen for him. Again.
Damien noticed the look on her face—lost, distant, just thinking of another man.
That man.
Rolan.
The one who wasn’t even her mate.
But he was. Damien was her mate. And she still seemed to care more about the other man. It made him feel pathetic.
He’d tried. Really tried. He came all this way to save her.
And her reaction?
It crushed him.
But still, he smiled. Forced it out. “Is it okay?” he asked gently. “Just tell me yes or no. If you want to leave, I’m going to take us away. Just say the word, Rose. Just say it.”
Rose stared at him. Her voice cracked. “Damien…”
She thought of her son.
“I want us to escape.”
And just like that, Damien’s expression shifted. A flicker of relief, then certainty.
“Well,” he said, “that’s the best damn choice you could’ve made.”
Rose’s thoughts spiraled. Deep down, she knew—she was hurting an innocent man.
Her mate.
Her eyes met Damien’s, expression unreadable. She was using him. Just because she wanted to be free of Rolan. But the truth?
Rolan hadn’t done anything truly bad to her. He’d been caring. Always gentle. He never wished her harm.
And yet, here she was—hurting Damien indirectly. She saw the sadness in his eyes… but she pretended not to. She was being cruel, and she knew it. But no matter how guilty she felt, she couldn’t bring herself to break all ties with him.
She just… couldn’t.
Humans were always plagued by temptation. Different temptations, from different places, at different times.
“Damien,” she said suddenly.
He looked up, startled. “Yes?” he replied, his voice hoarse.
“I want you to know… I’ll be with you. I won’t be with Rolan,” she said.
Damien’s eyes widened. Rose didn’t hesitate. She didn’t want to take her words back. She didn’t regret saying them at all.
Rolan had messed up. He didn’t deserve redemption. No matter what her heart might say, she believed it was only because she kept interacting with Rolan that her feelings were confused. If she had space—real space—to focus on just one man, that man would be Damien.
And once that happened?
Her heart would never beat for Rolan again.
Damien’s heart began to race as he processed her words. He even placed a hand on his chest, as if to feel it for himself. He couldn’t believe it. She wanted to be with him. Her words rang in his ears, louder than anything.
And when he looked into her eyes, he knew—she meant it. She wasn’t joking. She wasn’t uncertain.
She was serious.
What made her say something so bold, so final, he didn’t know. But it didn’t matter. He didn’t care.
He was going to take this chance. He had to.
“Well, Rose…” he began, voice trembling slightly as he reached for her hand and clasped it tightly. “Don’t regret it. Never regret these words.”
Rose took a shaky breath.
But no—she didn’t regret it at all.
Not one bit.
Damien held Rose’s hand as he glanced out the window. “The moon is still up,” he said softly. “We should leave this place now.”
Rose nodded. With his help, she got off the bed, and as Damien turned toward her, he finally noticed something—his eyes widened.
“You can walk?” he asked, stunned. A smile spread across his face.
Rose smiled back, a little sheepishly. “Yes, Damien. I can walk.”
His joy was immediate and pure. “Rose, I’m so happy right now. Seeing you stand like this… I still can’t believe it.” His voice cracked with emotion. “You’re not bound to a bed anymore. You’re whole again.”
Rose looked at him, warmth blooming in her chest. Why did he look even happier than she had been when she first found out she could walk? His reaction was so sincere, so full of love, that it made her heart ache.
“How?” he asked, curiosity lighting his features. “How are you able to walk again? What happened?”
Rose let out a breath and placed her hand over his. “It’s a long story, Damien. I’ll tell you everything once we get out of here.”
He nodded, understanding completely. “Alright.”
Then he motioned to the window. “We’ll go through there.”
Rose looked down. “There are no guards below. We can escape this way.”
“Good,” Damien said. “We’ll have to shift.”
With that, he shifted first, his wolf leaping gracefully through the window and landing below.
Rose followed. A soft, glowing pink light engulfed her as her form shifted. Her wolf stepped onto the window ledge, then jumped down, landing beside Damien.
There was no one else around. The area was quiet.
Finally, Rose thought. We’re really going to escape.
Once they were on the ground, she shifted back into her human form and looked at Damien. “What do we do now? The fence has an electric shock. How are we going to get past it?”
Damien rubbed his chin, glancing around. “We follow the gate. I drugged some of the guards on my way in—just enough to give us a window.”
A smile spread across Rose’s face. “Very smart, Damien. I would’ve never thought of that.”
