Chapter 141: Chaos
The guard appeared, shining his light at Rose and Damien.

Damien swiftly rushed at the guard, slamming him to the floor.

The guard groaned in pain.

“Oh my gosh, it hurts!” he cried.

Rolan stepped in, covering the guard’s mouth and striking him in the neck. The guard went limp and fainted.

Rose was still caught off guard by everything happening. She hadn’t expected the guard to be so alert—just like Rolan.

As Damien knocked out the first guard, another one appeared.

Damien leapt up from the ground and charged.

He had already shifted into his full form.

The second guard lunged at him, swinging a punch.

But Damien dodged smoothly and landed a brutal hit first.

The whole place erupted in noise.

Rose panicked.

“Be careful, Damien!” she shouted, fumbling with her sweaty hands.

She was terrified. All the chaos, all the noise—

Rolan’s going to come out and realize I was trying to escape. I’m so cooked right now.

Yes, you are so cooked right now, her inner voice sneered. You should’ve held Damien back. Told him to handle this with brains, not fists.

But it was too late. Damien was already pounding on the guards like a madman.

“Damien, we need to go!” Rose called out.

He was still fighting—more men kept showing up.

Damien turned to her for a split second.

“Do you see this?! They’re out for blood! They want to kill me!”

“We’re totally done for,” Rose whispered. “Rolan’s going to kill us before this is over.”

As Damien fought them off, a selfish idea slipped into Rose’s mind.

Maybe I should run. Escape now, while I still can.

She knew it was wrong. But in this situation? She had to save herself.

Damien could scold her later.

Let him be mad. She had to survive.

With that, she turned and sprinted toward the gate.

She was almost there—

But a huge dog stood blocking the path.

It barked viciously.

“Woof! Woof! Woof!”

Rose felt her heart leap out of her chest. Her knees trembled.

Seriously, Rose? her mind mocked.

You were ready to face Rolan and a bunch of armed guards, but now you’re scared of a dog? How ridiculous.

“Yuna, you might be a powerful werewolf, but I was used to being bullied—and I’m human. Yes, of course I’m scared of a dog!”

“I am a werewolf,” Rose muttered, “but right now, I don’t have the willpower to fight a dog.”

Yuna chuckled. “That’s ridiculous. You’re not even ashamed to say you’re scared of a dog?”

Rose rolled her eyes. “You know what? Let’s just shift. You go fight the damn dog yourself because I seriously don’t have the energy to argue. I just want to escape this place—like, right now. As in, this very moment.”

“Hmph,” Yuna said. “Fine. Let’s shift.”

A burst of light surrounded them, and in an instant, a massive wolf stood where Rose had been.

The dog growled at Yuna.

“Woof! Woof!”

The wolf growled right back.

But the dog didn’t flinch.

Didn’t back down.

Didn’t even blink.

Yuna tilted her wolf head, confused.

What kind of dog was this?

It was nearly her size.

She observed it cautiously.

Then Rose’s voice echoed in her head.

“That’s what I’m trying to say! This isn’t a normal dog—it’s a trained killer. It’s not even scared of werewolves. I swear, it’ll fight you to the death.”

Yuna huffed. “Well, I’m willing to fight it to the death.”

But hearing that just made anger bubble in Rose’s chest.

She wasn’t ready for this. She didn’t want to fight. She just wanted peace.

She wasn’t a warrior. She was the type to hide in a quiet corner, stay out of trouble, live low-key.

“Yuna, I don’t want to bleed tonight,” Rose said quietly. “Let’s just leave the dog alone. Maybe we can bribe it with a snack or something?”

Yuna scoffed. “Bribe? I’m not here to bribe. My blood’s rushing—I’m hyped. I need to fight something.”

Before Rose could protest again, the wolf launched at the dog—

And the dog launched right back.

The wolf opened her fangs and clamped down on the dog’s neck in an instant.

The dog immediately submitted, going still.

No more barking—only soft, breathy whimpers.

“Woof… woof…”

Yuna let go, realizing she hadn’t actually bitten hard.

The dog was just trembling, its front legs shaking as it limped away to hide behind a corner.

But not far enough—Yuna could still see its head peeking out.

She let out a low wolf-chuckle, more like an amused growl.

But just as she was chuckling… she froze.

A presence loomed behind her.

Rose whispered, “Yuna… we’re done for. We’re cooked.”

Yuna’s ears twitched. She turned her head slowly—

And met Rolan’s eyes.

“Oh, Rose… you’re really something else,” Rolan said with a quiet chuckle.

Yuna instantly bolted, trying to scale the fence, desperate to escape.

But the moment she remembered the electric shock barrier, she skidded to a stop, heart racing.

She was forced to turn around and face him.

A slow smile stretched across Rolan’s face as he stepped toward the wolf facing him.

Yuna took a step back, not wanting to face him.

Not wanting the man she was supposed to capture to get close to her again.

“Rose, dear,” he said smoothly, “why are you running away like that? After everything I’ve done to keep you safe?”

“Don’t you know,” he continued, “there are enemies outside just waiting to tear you apart?”

I don’t care.

I just want to see my son, Rose sent through the mind link, her voice shaky but determined.

Rolan chuckled. “Oh, I’m not planning to keep you locked up forever.”

“But we still have so much fun to have together. You can’t just leave me and throw away all the good times I planned for us.”

“What fucking good times have you planned for us?” Rose snapped. “You’re just keeping me caged in this place. I’m sick of it—I’m tired! I don’t want to stay here!”

“Why are you yelling at me, hon?” Rolan growled. “I’m trying my absolute best here! But you’re running away from me—for him? That bastard over there fighting my men?”

“Here I am, doing everything to be with you, Rose, and what do I get in return? You keeping your distance. And for what? You won’t even tell me the damn reason why! Why you keep pushing me away!”

Rose stared him down, trembling with fury.

“I’ve loved you since the day we got married,” Rolan went on, voice breaking. “You’re mine. You’ll always be mine.”

“I am fucking not yours!” Rose screamed. “I don’t love you, Rolan! I don’t want to be with you. You’re a disaster in my life!”

“If you leave me,” Rolan hissed, “you’re walking into something worse. I’m trying to protect you from a disaster that’s coming your way.”

“Why are you so fucking stubborn?” he yelled. “You’re willing to trust him—that bastard who just walked into your life—just because the Moon Goddess gave him to you as a mate? You’re willing to trust him and not me?”

“I know you better than he ever will! I was there when your leg was shattered. I stood by you through all that!”

“No,” Rose cut him off. “You were only there because you kidnapped me. If you hadn’t, Zara and Damien would’ve been there—they would’ve protected me and helped me heal!”

“Rose—”

“Don’t!” she shouted before he could finish. Rolan stepped back, looking down at her in her wolf form, feeling something close to shame.

Rose stepped forward. “Look at me. Say it to my face. You want to know why I’m upset? Say it again. Look me in the eyes and tell me. Read the emotions yourself.”

Rolan stood frozen. Rose didn’t back down—she didn’t shift. She stayed as she was, defiant and furious, creating distance between them like a wall he couldn’t climb.

“Let me go, Rolan,” she said coldly. “If you don’t let me go today… I swear, I’ll hate you forever.”

“See, I know you’ve done a lot for me, and I’m really grateful,” Rose said softly. “But I just want to go see my son.”

“You will see your son, Rose. I’m not keeping you caged forever,” Rolan replied, stepping closer. “If it’s possible, I’ll bring him here myself. You’re healed now—before, you didn’t want him to see your crippled leg. But now… now he can come.”

“Rose, don’t do this to me,” he added, voice cracking. “I fucking love you.”

As he spoke, a strange fire burned in his chest—an uncontrollable reaction from the illness stirring inside him.

“Rolan, why are you like this? Are you okay? Is everything alright?” Rose asked, her eyes locked on him.

But then she froze—his face twisted in pain, his hand clutching his chest. Rolan looked at her one last time before coughing up a mouthful of blood.

“Rolan!” Rose panicked, rushing forward.

He dropped to his knees, eyes still on her.

“Rose… you see this?” he gasped. “I’m hurting… because of you. Why do you hurt me, Rose? You never try to understand me, and you don’t let me understand you either… Why are you like this, Rose? Why?!”

His voice cracked with raw pain, and the anguish in it struck Rose like a blade. Tears welled in her eyes as she dropped beside him.

“Rolan! Rolan!” she cried, her hands trembling as she touched his shoulders.

His eyes fluttered shut.

He had fainted.
