Chapter 142: Betrayal
“Rolan, what’s wrong with you? Are you okay? Are you hurt?”
Rose knelt beside him, trying to help him up. He was lying on the floor, weak and bleeding. There was blood near his mouth. Panic flooded Rose’s eyes. She nearly burst into tears—she just wanted to help him, to protect him, to find a way to fix this.
But just as she held Rolan, trying to support him, a hand grabbed her wrist. It was Damien.
“Now that he’s at his weakest, you finally have the chance to escape,” Damien said coldly. “Why are you still here trying to save a monster, when this is your time to run?”
Rose hesitated, glancing at Rolan, then back at Damien. What he said made sense. She had been searching for an escape. And now—Rolan was down, vulnerable. This was her chance.
But her heart screamed No. I want to help him.
“Rose,” Yuna’s voice echoed sharply in her mind, “you want to help your psychopath ex when you could be running for your life? Are you actually stupid?”
Rose frowned. Lately, Yuna had been acting… strange. Arrogant. Like something dark had started radiating from her.
Rolan clutched her hand tightly, refusing to let go. On the other side, Damien held her wrist too, not letting her leave. She was caught between them, physically and emotionally.
“Rose,” Rolan whispered, eyes heavy with pain, “you’re really going to leave me like this?”
She saw the blood dripping from the corner of his lips. Something inside her cracked.
“Roland, let go of me,” she said, her voice suddenly sharp and firm.
Rolan’s expression twisted through pain, betrayal, and desperation—but he released her hand.
In that instant, Damien pulled her and bolted from the house with her in tow. As they ran, Rolan collapsed behind them, unconscious.
Then—BOOM.
An explosion rocked the house. Flames lit the compound. The dog barked furiously. But Rolan… Rolan was still inside, alone.
Rose and Damien didn’t stop running until they reached the forest. The mansion had been isolated. Hidden. Of course it was—it was Rolanwho had picked the place.
Rose looked around, panic setting in. “Damien, we’re in the middle of the forest. That mansion might’ve been the only human place for miles.”
Damien glanced around, calm despite the chaos. “I’ve got this. There’s a boat by the river. We can take it back to the city.”
Rose nodded, some relief flooding her chest. She even smiled a little.
As they walked, she turned to him and said softly, “Thank you for saving me. I don’t know how long Rolan planned to keep me trapped in that place… It was awful. But you came. You saved me. I’m so, so grateful.”
Damien smiled back. “It’s my job,” he said gently, “as your mate.”
Back at the mansion, the servants rushed to lift Rolan from the floor and took him inside. A doctor was called immediately.
After checking Rolan, the doctor sighed deeply. “It’s acting up again… He’s not well. At this rate, he might not survive.”
His eyes glanced over Rolan
‘s pale, unconscious face. Beads of sweat glistened on his forehead, his lips drained of all color, and his soaked hair clung to his skin like strands of wet ink.
Rolan murmured something in his sleep, the same phrase over and over. The doctor watched helplessly, shaking his head.
Who could be so cruel… to leave him like this?
One of the maids turned to the doctor. “She was once his Luna. The worthless Luna of the Alpha. But years ago, she ran away from him.”
Her tone was soft, but bitter. “Now, the Alpha is obsessed with her. He keeps chasing after her. But the Luna… she wants nothing to do with him. The Moon Goddess gave her a new path… a new identity.”

The doctor took a deep breath and nodded slowly. “Now it makes sense. Everything.”
He stood up and grabbed his bag. “The Alpha needs someone he trusts. Call someone close to him. I’ll inform his butler, Alfred. He’s the only one who can care for him now.”
He turned to leave, pausing briefly. “Their fate… both of them… has been tangled and ruined.”
The maid nodded, bowing slightly. “Thank you, doctor.”
After he left, the maid quickly picked up her phone and dialed Alfred.
Upon hearing the news, Alfred immediately booked a flight to Switzerland to reach the Alpha—who now had no one by his side.
As he boarded the plane, he muttered under his breath, “Miss Rose… I don’t know what the Alpha did to you, but leaving him like this… it’s heartless.”
—
Meanwhile, Rose sat silently on the ship, staring into nothing as the boat moved steadily across the waves. The sea breeze brushed against her skin, but she felt nothing.
She had left Rolan behind.
“I thought this was what you wanted,” Yuna said, voice sharp but not unkind. “He was keeping you captive. You had the chance to run, and you took it. So why do you look like you miss him?”
Rose didn’t answer right away. Her voice was quiet when she finally spoke. “I can’t believe I actually did that. I’ve never been that cruel… I believe in karma. What I did… it wasn’t right.”
Yuna sighed. “It wasn’t. But you were rescued. You’re free now. It’s in the past. Rolan has people. Someone will come for him. You shouldn’t carry guilt for saving yourself.”
Rose inhaled deeply, then whispered, “Maybe this will finally teach him. That I don’t love him anymore. That he should stop chasing me… and let me go.”
Yuna said nothing.
The wolf spirit inside her fell silent, retreating into quiet.
And for once, Rose wished it would speak. Even if it just told her she was wrong.
But the wolf stayed quiet.
And said nothing.
Late at night, the ship finally docked in the city. Rose took a deep breath as she stepped off the plane.
“Would you like to go see your son now?” Damien asked, thinking of little Tobi .
A smile instantly bloomed on her face. “Yes, I would love to see my son,” she said softly. She had missed him terribly. She feared he missed her just as much. She had been a bad mother—absent, lost in her pain. But now, she was cured. Now, she could finally be with him. At least she had that.
Damien looked at her and said gently, “Sorry, but you need to freshen up first. You don’t want him to see his mommy coming back from… such a dangerous place, right?”
Rose glanced down at herself, finally noticing the dirt and dishevelment. She gave a small, awkward smile and nodded.
Damien took her to a nearby hotel where she cleaned up and got changed before they headed to her father’s house to see Tobi .
—
Later, at her father’s mansion, the doorbell rang.
Inside, Tobi sat in the parlor playing with his dog, a happy grin on his face. He had been going to school regularly, and his grandfather had taken good care of him—so much so that the little boy had grown used to life without his mother. Almost like he never had one. But deep down, he had never forgotten her.
When the doorbell rang again, Tobi looked up.
“There’s someone at the door,” he said quietly. “Should I go check?”
One of the servants smiled at him as she passed by. “Don’t worry, young master. I’ll go and see who it is.”
She headed to the door, opened it—and there stood Damien and Rose.
From where Tobi was sitting, he heard the voice he had missed for so long. Instantly, he ran toward the entrance.
“Mommy!” he cried out, voice bursting with excitement.
Rose dropped to her knees just in time to catch him in her arms. A smile lit up her face as tears rolled down her cheeks.
“My dear son, I missed you so much,” she whispered, holding him tightly.
“I missed you too, Mommy!” Tobi sobbed, clinging to her as the tears finally came.
Rose held him close, stroking his hair gently. “Don’t cry, sweetheart. Mommy’s here now. Be strong, okay? You should be happy—I’m finally with you.”
Tobi sniffled, then gave a shy smile. “Yes… Mommy is finally here. I’m happy.”
Then, like any curious child, he asked, “Mommy, where have you been all this time?” He bombarded her with questions.
Rose smiled awkwardly and scooped him up in her arms. “Let Mommy sit down first. I’ll tell you everything. Where’s Grandpa?”
“Grandpa’s in the garden,” Tobi replied. “He’s making business calls.”
“Okay,” Rose said gently. She would wait. She wanted to talk to her father, too—after everything that had happened.
After that, Tobi Finally noticed Damien standing nearby. He wriggled out of Rose’s arms and ran over to him.
“Uncle Damien! You’re here! I haven’t seen you two in so long,” he said, his voice soft, sweet, and excited.
Damien smiled and pecked Tobi on the forehead.
“How are you doing, champion? Did you miss me? Your mommy and I have been really busy lately with adult stuff—business things that kids can’t get involved in,” Damien said.
Tobi Looked up at him with wide eyes, a little “Wow!” slipping from his lips.
“So you two are doing adult jobs? I’m just a kid now, but one day I’ll be an adult too—and I’ll join you and help out!” he said with a grin.
Damien chuckled, patting his head.
“Yes, one day you’ll grow up and do adult jobs too.” The two of them sat down together.
