Chapter 22: Meeting her father
“So, what have you decided to do if you’re not going to get back together with him?” Zara asked, thinking that, thank goodness, her friend’s mind was finally back on track.
“What you need to think about now is your future and your kid. You don’t need a man to survive. A woman on her own, with her own money, can make anything happen. You can conquer the world.”
Rose nodded. “What I’m going to do, gurl, is first change houses. I’m going to call my father, and then I’ll change my location so he can’t find me. I don’t want to meet him again. I want to keep him out of my life. Everything that brings him into my life, I want to close that chapter.”
“I’m changing houses, and I’ll call my dad. He’ll get me a new apartment,” she said, snapping her fingers as she finally made her decision.
Zara snapped her fingers along with her, accepting that this was a very good decision. “Yes, girl, that’s the mindset! That’s how you should be thinking. Don’t go back to any man. This man made you suffer in your past life. You’re not going to be with him. You need to close everything that ties you to him.”
“Don’t get back with him, Rose.”
“Yes, I’ve made up my mind. I won’t go back to him. I won’t love him again. I was stupid yesterday, and I did the wrong thing. I won’t repeat it.”
“So, girl, what are you waiting for? Get your phone and call your father right now,” Zara said, urging Rose to act quickly.
Rose hurriedly brought her phone out of her finger, wanting to die. She stared at the number for a moment, then paused at action, thinking twice.
Although her mother hated her and did not interact much, her father was a kind, quiet, peaceful man who loved them silently, but he could not put his mind in her mother’s decision. Her mother was the passing, ruling the household.
Her father, though, cared for her, but their feelings for each other were very awkward. She could not converse very well with him. He had bought an apartment for her.
Thinking of it, she remembered the first awkward conversation she had with him, and it pulled her out of her past. Deciding to leave those memories behind, she returned to the present and dialed her dad’s number.
The phone rang a few times before finally connecting. Her father picked up the call.
“Hello, Rose, Is this you?” His voice was rough and soothing.
“Yes, that’s me,” she replied, looking twice at Zara. Zara urged her to continue talking.
“Where are you? You see that apartment? It’s Rolan. He now knows my location, so I want to change my location.”
Finally, she could tell him what she wanted to say. “And I had—”
“Really, okay, dear, I will solve it for you,” her father immediately accepted.
“Thank you, Dad. I’ll talk to you later.”
“Yes, and I’ll call you later.”
That was it. Before the call ended, Rose stared at her phone, realizing how hard it was to feel this was her dad, that he cared for her.
But for her to communicate with him was difficult.
“So, what did your father say?”
The question brought her out of her daze.
“He had agreed. He said he’s going to change the house for me. I don’t know why… because my father and I, we understand that.”
Zara stopped her. “You guys just need to understand each other slowly, and you’ll get used to talking more.”
Her words encouraged her, and in that moment, Rose felt relief and sighed.

Rose, in the afternoon, decided to finally meet her father. The matter of changing houses had to be done faster, and besides, she had other important things to discuss with him.

Zara still needed to rest in the hospital, so there was no need to disturb her about this.
Tobi’s school hadn’t closed yet, so there was still time for her to have a friendly chat with her father and return.
Lostel Café. She had texted her dad the address. She took a cab, wanting to get there quickly.
Later in the cab, she could smell an Alpha scent on the driver.
He was an Alpha, she guessed, but why was his scent irritating her so much, so much that she couldn’t endure it?
She had endured other Alpha scents for years and had been fine, so what had happened this time?
“Are you okay, miss?” The driver seemed kind and had noticed her growing nauseous expression as he asked.
“No, I’m fine. I’m alright,” she lied, keeping a polite tone. She only prayed in her heart, Please let us reach the location before anything else happens. The scent was really surfacing in here.
Finally, they arrived. She took a deep breath of fresh air before paying the driver his money.
She was now at the cafe. The place was crowded with people, and she only needed to find her dad with just a seat number.
Walking into the cafe, she checked the card in her hand—number eleven.
When she read it, she searched the place with her eyes.
Soon, she spotted the seat. She could see the back of a man in a blue suit.
He had dark, short hair. That figure—it was her father.
She didn’t know why she suddenly felt her mood drop. She was stopping herself from letting tears come from her eyes.
Her dad. He was the one.
She took a hard sniff and hurriedly wiped her tears away with her hand.
“My dad,” she mumbled with a smile on her face, wanting to take a step forward.
But she stopped. Her body didn’t want to move. She felt awkward approaching him.
What would she say to him when she met him? What would their first conversation be? Should she say hi or hello? Should she just call him Dad and stare at him, smiling like an idiot?
Her mind was in chaos. She pinched herself, forcing herself to move forward. He’s my dad, not a monster who would eat me. I’m not a child to feel this awkward about talking.
After filling her mind with those self-lectures, she finally approached her dad.
Her steps were slow as she walked towards him. Someone might think it was her tight skirt, stopping her from walking properly.
“Dad,” she called, her lips trembling when she reached him.
