Chapter 25: Her baby doesn’t want eggs
“Yes, it concerns your school, but not the school directly,” Rose explained without wasting her time. “Well, my kid just got enrolled here, and he has been bullied by his fellow peers.”
Her voice was soft, as if she wasn’t upset about anything, and the principal couldn’t sense anything in her tone.
But Rose was boiling inside.
The principal nodded her head, in deep thought about Rose’s words. She had thought of a good reply. “I’m sorry to hear that.”
She stopped her fingers on the table and gave the reply that would please Rose. “We will solve your problem, but please give the name of the kid, ma’am.”
Her voice carried something like laughter, not to make the atmosphere serious.
Rose was happy hearing the principal’s words. She turned to Tobi, tapping his head gently.
“Come on, son,” she questioned him, starting gently with her words. “What’s the name of the kid that bullied you?”
Her voice was soft. Tobi raised his small head, looking at his mother. He fumbled with his hand slightly before opening his mouth, about to explain.
“His name is…” Tobi scratched his small head, recalling the name. “It’s Jaffrey,” he completed his words with a wide beam, like he had solved a big puzzle.
The principal looked at Tobi, hearing his small voice. She praised in her heart that the kid was smart before saying to Rose with a nod, “I’ll call that kid, and we will talk to him about bullying. Is that okay?”
The principal’s voice was soft, and her heart was racing a bit. For today, she just wanted to avoid problems.
Rose furrowed her brow, then smiled. She nodded, accepting the principal’s words.
“Alright then, I trust you with this. I believe you will carry out your words. I don’t want any complaints again about my kid getting bullied.”
Rose turned to Tobi. “Son, let’s go home,” her voice carried a smile.
She held Tobi’s hand, watching him nodding to her words. Then he slowly climbed off his seat, Rose guiding him outside.
The principal felt intimidated by the lady that seemed gentle but was a fierce, protective mother.
She mumbled under her breath and started thinking about how to contact that kid’s parents.
…
Rose unlocked the door, getting into the house with Tobi.
It had been a long day. She sighed, keeping Tobi on the couch and then turning on the TV for him.
“Honey, I’ll go make dinner for us,” she said with a smile, ruffling his hair a little.
It was Bunny Bear playing on the TV.
Seeing Rose busy in the kitchen, Tobi watched the cartoon seriously, his eyes focused and barely blinking.
Suddenly, Darius, the voice inside Tobi, started talking to him.
“Hey, little bro. You could have let me beat up that kid who bullied you.” Darius’s voice sounded serious, full of rebellion.
“No! What could have happened then? It’s better we didn’t do anything to the kid,” Tobi narrowed his small eyes, speaking seriously to Darius. “Weren’t you happy how Mummy came and fought for us instead of causing trouble at school? I’d rather let Mummy help us.”
Tobi blinked his eyes and kept watching his cartoon.

On the screen, Bunny Bear was talking about how Vick chopped the woods. He wished he could be as hardworking as Vick but didn’t want to destroy the forest where the animals lived. He wanted to be both hardworking and kind, not harming the animals’ homes.
Rose came back from the kitchen, seeing Tobi still focused on the TV. She noticed how much he enjoyed watching Bunny Bear—a cartoon she never had during her childhood.
Her childhood was never fun.
Rose walked toward Tobi, taking slow steps so he wouldn’t notice her presence. Tobi’s eyes were still glued to the TV, so focused he hadn’t heard Rose approaching.
He was just busy having a forced conversation in his head while watching Bunny Bear.
Darius was talking about liking the smart bear, while Tobi preferred the silly one.
The children were completely immersed when, suddenly, they turned their heads slightly. Their little hearts almost leapt out of their chests.
It was none other than their mummy, standing there with a soft smile, holding a tray of food in her hands.
Tobi stared at Rose, his eyes wide open, maintaining his stunned expression.
Why had his mummy done that?
“Mummy?” Tobi called softly, moving his small feet and climbing down the couch.
“Mummy, you scared me,” he said, running to Rose and holding onto her legs, looking up at her with big, gray eyes.
Rose chuckled softly, a gentle sound that Tobi could hear clearly. She looked down at his small figure clinging to her leg. He looked so cute from this position. His frightened face was priceless.
“Oh, honey! I didn’t mean to scare you intentionally. Are you okay, dear? I brought you your food,” Rose said with a smile. Gently peeling his hands from her legs, she walked to the table in the middle of the room, placing the food tray gently on it.
“Come on, dear. Eat some food. You know you’ll have to sleep soon. You can’t keep watching Bunny Bear all night.”
Saying this, she carried him and gently placed him on the small seat next to the table.
Tobi looked at her with big, moist eyes and let her carry him all she wanted. She was his mummy, after all.
He would just be obedient and let her do what she wanted.
In his heart, though, he knew his mummy had scared him intentionally. The smile in her eyes couldn’t fool him.
Tobi smiled inwardly. If getting bullied by his mummy made her happy, he would let it pass.
Tobi shook his head and looked at his food. His face scrunched slightly.
“Mummy, I don’t like eggs. I don’t want to eat eggs,” Tobi said, looking at Rose with big brown eyes.
“Huh?” Rose furrowed her brows, confused.
Since when did he stop liking eggs? What had happened?
It wasn’t good. Eggs were good for the body. He should eat them.
“Tobi, dear, why don’t you want to eat eggs? You should tell me,” Rose said softly, rubbing his hair.
Was he feeling sick? Her heart couldn’t stop worrying. If he was, she should take him to the hospital right away.
It hadn’t been long since Jennifer had beaten him. Could he still be unwell from that?
Rose pursed her lips, about to take action.
“No, Mummy! It’s just… I don’t want to eat eggs! They are little birds!” Tobi bit his lips, looking at Rose with crystal tears forming in his eyes.
From watching Bunny Bear, he had learned that birds came from eggs. He had seen Rambo protect a baby bird, and now he was being forced to eat eggs. He didn’t want to eat a baby bird!
