Chapter 31: Ate from her hands
Rose hissed in annoyance but didn’t respond. She stared at the flower centerpiece on the table, refusing to engage.
Rolan laughed lightly, unbothered by her reaction. “Fine, I’ll decide for you. And you will eat what I order.”
Rose raised her head slightly, giving him a sharp side-eye, but she didn’t say anything. She continued glaring at the flower, silently fuming.
“Oh, how about green beans and brown bean soup? That would be nice,” Rolan teased with a chuckle.
Rose’s heart thudded in her chest. She wanted to throw her head back and scream at him. She was allergic to beans, and he knew it.
Yet he had the audacity to mention every bean-based dish on the menu!
She couldn’t let that happen.
Huffing, she grabbed the menu and quickly scanned for the first non-bean dish she could find. “I’ll have cake. That’s what I want,” she snapped, her teeth gritting as she glared at him.
Rolan smirked, nodding, clearly satisfied that she had reacted exactly as he wanted.
They were both stubborn, and they both knew how to handle themselves.
But after all these years, it seemed she hadn’t changed much—except for the fiery attitude, which he didn’t know where she had picked up.
A waitress approached their table, smiling politely as she asked, “Sir, ma’am, what would you like?”
Rose sighed inwardly, her frustration simmering. She forced a smile and said, “A cake, please.”
The waitress nodded, sensing nothing amiss, and turned to Rolan.
Rolan ordered his own meal, smiling politely at the waitress.
Rose rolled her eyes, biting her tongue to stop herself from saying something nasty.
Now he was flirting with the staff, and earlier he had been flirting with her.
Soon enough, he’d probably start flirting with her sister.
Rose wasn’t jealous—she was just stating facts.
“Dear sister,” a familiar voice called, snapping Rose out of her thoughts.
Her head whipped around, and her heart skipped a beat as she saw a woman with bright purple and yellow hair approaching their table.
It was none other than Jennifer, her sister.
Rose’s heart tightened. The last time she had seen Jennifer, she had done something unforgivable to Tobi.
Tobi was just a child, and yet Jennifer had treated him terribly. Her son didn’t deserve that.
Her eyes grew cold as she watched Jennifer.
Jennifer finally reached their table, placing her purse down as she slid into an empty seat beside Rolan.
“Honey, it’s been so long since I’ve seen you,” Jennifer said sweetly, directing her attention to Rolan. “Your mother said you were sick, so I came to check on you.”
Rolan focused on his wristwatch, not even raising his head to look at her.
Jennifer’s smile faltered for a moment, but she quickly recovered and turned to Rose, her smile stretching wider. “Sister, you haven’t visited us. We missed you. Mother missed you. Why haven’t you come home, dear?”

Rose smirked coldly, masking her true feelings. “I’m fine, and I don’t want to come back home. I don’t belong there, I’m afraid.”
Jennifer’s smile became awkward, and she hesitated before grabbing the menu on the table.
Before the waitress returned with their orders, Jennifer had a chance to make hers. “I’ll have a salad, and this, and this, and that,” she said, pointing to various items.
The waitress nodded, jotting down her requests, and hurried off.
Rose rolled her eyes, wondering what Jennifer was trying to prove.
Jennifer noticed Rose’s gaze and asked, “I hope you’re not angry with me, sister. I only ordered what Rolan likes. I hope that’s okay?”
Rose raised an eyebrow, giving her a pointed look. Was Jennifer doing all this to show off her knowledge of Rolan?
Rose forced a smile. “Of course, sister. There’s no problem. Do as you please,” she said, taking a small bite of her cake, her tone dripping with sarcasm.
Rolan raised an eyebrow at Rose’s response, his curiosity piqued. Did Rose really know what he liked?
…
Rose raised a brow, not understanding why Rolan was giving her such a look.
What does he expect from her? Should she say something more so he would have the chance to support Jennifer while attacking her?
Jennifer smiled, taking a sip of her red wine that she had ordered, her eyes directed to Rose.
“Oh dear sister, don’t tell me that you don’t know anything about him. Rolan, it seems that I am the one that knows you best,” she turned to Rolan, her expression serious, carrying a smile.
Rolan did not respond to her or say anything. Jennifer’s expression almost cracked.
Rose did not notice their little interaction. She just wanted it to disappear. She didn’t want to be eating vinegar that she didn’t know where it came from.
Rolan—everything about him, she knew it. In her past, she was busy chasing his love.
She studied every detail, but all she got was his coldness, dismissive attitude.
“Rose, don’t you know anything about me, huh?” Rose’s face fell immediately the moment she heard his words.
Now, what was confusing him? He suddenly began to pay attention to her.
She found it very funny—what she had wanted all her life in marriage, it seemed that she could easily get it if she wanted.
But no, she doesn’t want it anymore. It should be with her.
Jennifer can keep him for all she cares.
Yes, Rose chuckled in her heart, plastering a smile outside to hide her emotions, stopping tears from coming out in her heart.
Jennifer’s expression shifted for some moments as if she was searching for something in Rose’s face.
When she did not find what she wanted to see, she briefly frowned, then smiled, picking up a shrimp and feeding it to Rolan.
“Come on, take and eat. I know you like it very much~~~ Say ahhh,” her voice was sultry and soft, like music.
It really showed how much effort she put in to exaggerate it like that.
Rolan opened his mouth and subconsciously took it with no thoughts in his heart.
