Chapter 32: Who among them knew him better
Rose’s eyes did not twitch for a moment seeing Jennifer’s gesture, but her fists clenched under the table subconsciously.
She needed to get out of here before she would lose herself.
She was hurting herself by staying here. She needed to leave.
The palace was not best for her.
Jennifer had fed Rolan, and he let her.
In the past, he didn’t let her take such action—he never did.
{Flashback}
The servants elegantly kept the meals on the table. Rose had prepared the food, but they were just helping her set the table.
She carried a bright smile on her face.
This meal on the table, she had prepared it with so much love.
Her husband would come back and eat it.
Even if his face was cold, he would still eat the food. At least she knew that she had made his stomach happy, she smiled in her heart.
She couldn’t wait to see him come.
Rose turned to the servants and smiled.
“Thanks for the help, all of you. Please, I will take it in from here. You can all go back to your fellow duties,” her voice was soft, sweet, mixing with the smile on her face.
The servants echoed in unison, “Yes, Luna, we have heard you. We will leave the rest to you, and we hope that Master loves the meals that you have made.”
The servants ran with their last comment, and Rose sighed with a smile, not able to react, letting them off.
Click-click.
Rose turned to the sound, her heart racing. Her eyes were fixed at the door. It was Rolan, her husband—he was finally here!
Rose hurriedly walked to Rolan, who had come back, ignoring his cold face, taking his bag from him.
She briefly turned and smiled at him.
“Honey, I have prepared your food for you.”
She knew that Rolan wouldn’t reject her food. She was a good cook, and besides, he was always hungry anytime he came from work.
Rolan ignored looking at her face, but like he always did, he just walked to the table.
He swiftly took the spoon, wanting to eat his food in bed. Rose stood there and watched him eat all.
She noticed that he had ignored the new recipe that she had learned today, so she went to him, taking the spoon, fishing, and bringing it to his mouth.
“It’s a new dish. It’s tasty. I know you will like it,” her voice was filled with a smile.
But it was wiped off.
Rolan snapped her hand away, making the food pour on the floor, the order falling along with his movement.
Follow new episodes on the "N0vel1st.c0m".
She yelped, helping herself a bit not to fall on the ground along with the back of her head.
Rolan looked at her coldly, and he spat, “Don’t try such nonsense with me again.”
The chairs and table made clicking sounds as he walked away, leaving Rose in that condition.
[End of Flashback]
“Why are you so lost? Rose, where’s your mind?” Rolan’s voice called her, his gaze filled with concern.
Rose snapped out of her thoughts immediately, looking up at him.
“I need to go. You guys have a nice meal.”
With her words said, she got up from the table, taking her bag and turning away.
“You can’t go anywhere. I have not permitted you. So you can’t leave,” Rolan frowned, getting up from his seat, rushing to her, holding her wrist. Jennifer beside him was totally ignored.
Rolan’s gaze turned icy.
“You said I have you for the afternoon. So now, where are you going?” his tone questioned, remaining between high and low.
Rose raised a brow, snapping her wrist from his hold.
“Since when did I say that, Mister Rolan? I never said such a thing, and I think you might stop stalking me if you know what’s good for you. I’ll call a cop on you,” her words were a threat to him, even though she knew that it was baseless.
The cops probably wouldn’t do anything to him since he was the alpha and a man with many connections.
She just wanted to get away from here. She really wished that this was the last time they ever met.
She might be getting sick. Anytime he was around her, she always felt sick. He was not good for her health. She was both sick emotionally and physically.
…
Rolan couldn’t stop Rose as she had gotten up, taking her bag and leaving. All of a sudden, he couldn’t understand what had happened.
The car parked in front of a large, wide building. Rose got out of the car, saying thank you to the driver as she gave him his money.
“Thank you, driver, for taking me home,” she said.
The driver smiled and nodded to her.
“It is no problem, ma’am. You are thanking me unnecessarily; it is my job, and I am getting paid for it.”
Rose smiled awkwardly at the driver, and then he drove off. Inside her heart, she felt that the exchange had been really embarrassing.
Her mind was so confused that she wanted to get rid of all the problems in her head, but instead, she ended up making a silly conversation with the taxi driver.
Finally letting go of her awkwardness, she held her purse closer to herself and walked inside the tall building.
…
Zara smiled, hugging Rose with a big hug as she entered.
“Finally, you decided to visit me! I thought I was abandoned,” Zara said with a sarcastic tone hidden in her voice. Rose could sense it and just laughed, taking a seat to make herself comfortable in the house.
“I haven’t abandoned you,” Rose shrugged. “I was just caught up in some mess, if you get what I mean.”
She felt her mood worsening as her thoughts drifted off to Rolan and Jennifer, whom she had left at the restaurant.
She wondered what they would be doing after she had left.
Feeling awful recalling the scene in her mind, she grabbed the glass of cold water on the table and gulped it down.
Zara raised a brow at her actions. It was as if she sensed that something was wrong with Rose and that it was related to Rolan.
