Chapter 44: He was at the garden
If that was the case, then how could she have thought Rose was weak? Unless she was blind to it herself.
“Be rational and tell me what happened. Why did you come here barking at me?” Rose stared at Miss Stella like a tiger, her shoulders trembling. She forced herself to stay calm so she could explain the situation clearly.
But she wasn’t calming down. She wasn’t going to trust her mother.
“Where is my son, Mother? Minutes ago, I left him with you, and when I came back, I found out he had been kidnapped. Is that true? Was Tobi really taken from this house?” Her voice grew firmer toward the end as she shook her head, staring at her mother, waiting for an answer.
Miss Stella’s expression turned arrogant as she looked at Rose.
“Kidnapped? And what if he was? What if you never saw him again?” Miss Stella smirked, her eyes gleaming with mischief, almost daring Rose to react.
Rose shook her head. “Mother, no,” she whispered, forcing back the tears threatening to spill from her eyes.
“Mother, Tobi was with you. Were you the one who had him kidnapped?”
Rose was trying to calm herself, but the tension in the air hadn’t settled. She looked at her mother, her entire body shaking with restrained emotion.
She was truly trying to keep herself in control. If not, she might have reacted on pure instinct.
“Oh dear,” Miss Stella sneered. “You look like a wrecked doll on the verge of breaking, yet still standing like it has a few words left to say.”
She laughed, surprising Rose.
“Your son, Tobi, was playing in the garden. How could he be kidnapped?”
“Excuse me, what?” Rose uttered, stumbling over the words she wanted to say.
Tobi was playing? So he wasn’t kidnapped? Her heart started racing—not because she still believed Tobi was kidnapped, but because her body was trying to push away the fear that had gripped her.
Miss Stella shook her head, controlling the laughter that threatened to escape.
Rose quickly wiped her tears with her palm.
“Mother, where is Tobi? You said he was playing—where exactly is he?” Rose asked, waiting for her mother’s response.
“I’m not sure if he’s really here anymore,” Miss Stella said coldly, making Rose’s heart sink again. She couldn’t believe this—her mother was playing mind games with her.
Tobi’s life was at stake, and yet her mother still had time for jokes? Rose couldn’t believe it. She locked eyes with her mother and said firmly, “I’m going to call the cops on you if you don’t tell me where my son is! I need to see him—he’s my only life, my most precious diamond. For the first time in years, I decided to trust you again, and this is how you repay me? You allowed my son to be kidnapped!”
Rose was now shouting at the top of her lungs, her body trembling with anger. She wanted to attack her mother, but Rolan, standing beside her, grabbed her before she could move.
Calm down, Rose. She told herself. This wasn’t the time to lose control. She needed to think clearly and find out the truth—was Tobi really kidnapped, or was he still in the mansion?
“Please, Mother,” Rose said, trying to steady her voice. “I’m going to trust you one last time. Just tell me where my son is. Don’t break my trust.”
Miss Stella looked Rose up and down, her expression sneering. She wanted to mock Rose further, to hurt her more, but something in Rose’s face stopped her. Instead, she simply turned her back to Rose and said, “Tobi is playing in the garden. He was lost, but you should find him there.”
A smile bloomed on Rose’s face as she heard her mother’s words. Instinctively, she ran, her sudden movement making Rolan lose his grip on her. She dashed out of the mansion, her heart pounding, racing toward the garden.
Arriving at the lush, flower-filled garden, she scanned the area. It was large and overgrown—finding Tobi wouldn’t be easy.
Without hesitation, Rose cupped her hands around her lips and shouted, “Tobi! Where are you? I’m looking for you!”
She kept yelling his name, her voice desperate. All this time, Rolan stood beside her, silently watching her. Thoughts swirled in his mind, but he kept them to himself.
His suspicions were now crystal clear. There was nothing more to investigate—he was certain. Tobi was Rose’s son.

But first, they needed to find the little boy and make sure he was safe.

Tobi ran through the garden on his short legs, playing with Darius. The butterflies fluttered in the sky, and the flowers, freshly watered by the gardener, swayed gently as droplets sparkled in the sunlight. The scent of nature filled the air, making it the perfect time for Tobi to connect with it.
After the kind and beautiful grandma had fed him, she left him in the parlor to play alone. But sitting there, all by himself, Tobi quickly grew bored. He called the maid and asked, “Do you have any fun places where I can play?”
The maid smiled warmly at Tobi and said, “Dear, we have a lovely garden. Would you like to play there?”
Tobi’s face lit up with excitement. “Yes! I’d love to play in the garden with the flowers,” he said. Since there were no other kids around, he wanted to be with nature instead.
The maid kindly suggested bringing him some toys, but Tobi shook his head. “No, I just want to play with the flowers,” he insisted.
Understanding his wish, the maid took Tobi’s hand and guided him to the garden. That was how he ended up outside, happily playing among the flowers.
Somehow, being in the garden reminded him of Rose. He had seen her with a flower before, and now, as he played, he felt a deep connection—not just with nature but with something more special.
Darius was unique, too. He wasn’t just any ordinary Wolf. He and Tobi shared a special bond, almost as if they were connected in a way no one else could understand. He and Darius share forms, and though they had separate souls, their souls felt intertwined. That was why Tobi never felt lonely when Darius was with him.
Tobi had been playing in the garden for a long time, yet he didn’t feel bored. He was enjoying every moment, lost in the magic of nature, until suddenly—
He heard his mother’s voice.
“Mommy? Is that you?” Tobi called out in his tiny voice, turning around, searching for her. His small eyes darted up and down the garden, trying to find her.
Rose had heard Tobi’s voice, too. Her heart leaped as she shouted at the top of her lungs, “Tobi, dear! Where are you? I’m coming!”
Hearing his mother’s voice, Tobi grew impatient. He turned to Darius and said, “Darius, let’s go find Mommy! Let’s follow the sound of her voice!”
Darius nodded, wagging his tail, ready to lead the way.
