Chapter 46: He can’t say the word….
Rose bent down to the ground, rubbing Tobi’s hair. Her eyes were looking at him as if they were about to scold him.
But that wasn’t it. Instead, her head turned a shade of red, almost as if she was about to cry.
Tobi looked at his mummy, who was rubbing his hair while trying to control her tears. He wondered if he had done something wrong.
In his little heart, he screamed,
“Oh no! I can’t let Mummy be sad. I must always keep Mummy happy—I promised her!”
“Mummy, please stop crying,” Tobi hugged Rose, his voice trembling as if he would cry too.
Hearing Tobi’s words, instead of stopping, Rose’s tears only flowed more.
Tobi’s little face formed a pout, his expression sad and helpless. His mummy was crying, and it was because of him. He needed to do something to comfort her, but what could he do?
“Darius, how can we make Mummy stop crying?” he turned to Darius, who had returned to his body.
After a long silence, Darius finally spoke.
“Talk to her, ask her what’s wrong. Maybe that will calm her down.”
Tobi nodded, thinking Darius had a good idea.
Tobi didn’t like seeing his mummy cry. To make her stop, he straightened his shoulders like a big man and said,
“Mummy, stop crying. Anything Mummy wants, I’ll get it for you! So please don’t cry and tell me what’s wrong.”
After Tobi spoke, there was a moment of silence. The muffled sobs he had been hearing from his mother stopped. But now, he heard something else—a soft chuckling sound.
She was laughing.
Rose finally burst into laughter, raising her head to look at Tobi’s flushed face and his eyes, which were staring at her with worry and confusion.
She couldn’t help it. Her hand reached out to pinch his cheeks.
“Oh dear, my son has grown up. He can comfort his mummy now!”
Rose found this both funny and touching, warmth spreading through her heart.
Tobi was growing every day, getting cuter and more thoughtful. What would she do without a child like him? She had truly given birth to a miracle.
Tobi’s mouth fell open in shock as he stared at his mummy, realizing she was laughing at him.
At that moment, he pouted in disbelief, turning his little back to her with his arms folded.
“Mummy, this is unbelievable! You… you are laughing at me!”
Rose controlled her laughter upon hearing Tobi’s words.
She couldn’t even remember when Tobi started speaking clearly. Before she returned to this town, he had still struggled with some words.
Rose looked at Tobi, who had turned his back to her like a big boy. A small smile curved on her lips as a playful thought came to her mind.
“Tobi dear,” she called, trying to suppress another laugh.
Tobi heard his mummy’s voice and, despite wanting to ignore her, he couldn’t resist turning around.

His face still had a pout as he looked at her.
“Tobi dear, can you say the word… cucumber?”
Why did his mummy want him to say “cucumber”? Was this her way of stopping him from getting mad? Tobi wondered in his heart, but he didn’t want to disobey his mummy.
So, he opened his mouth, following her instructions, and tried to say the word.
“Cucumbumbum.”
Rose burst into laughter upon hearing this.
She sighed in her heart with amusement—her baby was still a baby after all. He hadn’t learned most words yet.
Tobi pouted even more, his cheeks puffing up like he was about to cry.
His mummy was laughing at him again. He had done what she asked, yet she was laughing instead! Tobi sniffled, giving Rose a small glare.
“I can say the word! Don’t laugh. See—cucumbumbum!”
Rose laughed once more as Tobi tried repeating the word, determined to prove himself. But he still couldn’t say it properly.
She couldn’t hold back her laughter. Tobi might think he was pronouncing it correctly, but sadly, he wasn’t.
It was simply because he couldn’t talk properly yet.
Finally, Tobi couldn’t take it anymore and wailed.
“Mummy, why?” His voice was soft, full of sadness.
Rose immediately regretted laughing at her precious son. Why had she done that? She shouldn’t have laughed at him.
Feeling guilty, she pulled him into a hug, rubbing his back. But Tobi cried even more.
This time, he wouldn’t trust his mummy. He had trusted her the first time, and she laughed at him. So, he decided he wouldn’t trust her again.
Tobi wailed louder, the thought firm in his heart.
His small hands, which had been gripping her back, stiffened for a moment before relaxing again.
“She brought this upon herself,” Tobi thought stubbornly, refusing to stop crying.
Rose didn’t know what to do. She simply carried him in her arms and left the fair, heading toward the mansion.
Tobi’s cries echoed through the halls as Rose opened the door and stepped inside.
Standing there with her arms folded was Mrs. Stella. Her pretty face carried a deep frown.
“Why is my precious grandchild crying?” Mrs. Stella asked, glaring at Rose.
Rose gave her mother an awkward glance. How could she admit that she had bullied Tobi and made him cry? That would be too shameful.
She—his mother—had made her own child cry.
“Ahh, Mother, it’s nothing. Tobi just tripped and fell,” Rose lied bluntly in front of Tobi.
Tobi, hearing his mummy lie, wailed even louder and quickly reported her.
“Mummy bullied me! She was laughing at me!”
Mrs. Stella glared at Rose upon hearing Tobi’s words. She didn’t like anyone bullying the one she loved. Only she had the right to make him cry.
Without giving Rose a chance to protest, Mrs. Stella took a step forward and gently lifted Tobi from her arms.
“Come on, dear. Tell me, what was she laughing at you about?”
Her voice was soft and filled with care, encouraging Tobi to speak.
Tobi clung to her even more and sniffled. Then, he said,
“She was laughing at me because I said ‘cucumbumbum.’ Grandma, didn’t I say it right?”
Tobi sniffled again, staring at Mrs. Stella, waiting for her response.
Mrs. Stella looked at Tobi, then kissed his forehead.
“Nah, Tobi, you said it right. As a kid, you’re even smarter than your mum was when she was little. You pronounced the word perfectly!”
Tobi smiled upon hearing Mrs. Stella’s response.
His grandma was kind—very kind. First, she gave him cookies, and now she said he had pronounced cucumbumbum correctly.
His mummy, on the other hand, had laughed at him.
He didn’t want to go home with her today.
Tobi clung to Mrs. Stella even tighter, muffling his face in her arms as he made his decision.
Rose felt an awkward sweat forming on her forehead. She had just lost her son to her mother.
Her son didn’t like her anymore.
Why did she laugh at him? She shouldn’t have done that.
She should have controlled herself.
Rose glanced outside—it was already dark. They needed to go home, but she could tell Tobi didn’t want to.
He didn’t look like a child who wanted to leave.
“What have I done?” Rose screamed in her heart.
Would Tobi believe her if she told him that the woman he was resting on—the one he was so comfortable with—was actually Lucifer?
Her mother was more dangerous than Lucifer.
Yet, Tobi seemed happier in her arms right now.
“You’re staying here for the night. What’s that look on your face?”
Rose heard her mother’s voice echo as she climbed the stairs, leaving her with that final message.
She knew there was nothing she could do.
For three years, she had been away from this house.
And now, she was going to sleep here again.
This was not what she had predicted.
