Chapter 50: Playing emotional games
Rolan went back to the house with an ugly, angry expression. He couldn’t believe that Rose had packed up and left without telling him. How was he supposed to contact her? How was he going to talk to her?
He wanted to, but she had severed all means of communication, leaving him with no way to reach her.
Inside his car, as he drove, his fists clenched tightly around the steering wheel before loosening again. If he had any more anger boiling inside him, his veins might have popped. His expression mirrored the turmoil raging within him—he still couldn’t believe this was happening.
While driving, Rolan connected his phone to take a call through his earbuds.
“Alfred, I told you to monitor Rose. She moved out, and you didn’t tell me? She left, and you said nothing? Alfred, why did you do this to me?”
His voice carried clear frustration and accusation.
Over the phone, Alfred cleared his throat before responding, trying to defend himself. “Master, I couldn’t keep my eyes on the Luna twenty-four hours a day. Forgive me.”
Rolan immediately caught the sarcasm in Alfred’s voice. His jaw tightened, and his fist clenched harder. In frustration, he yanked the earbud from his ear and flung it aside, watching as it bounced before falling into the backseat.
Through gritted teeth, he muttered under his breath, “Rose, you can’t run from me… You want to escape, but you won’t get away forever.”
His voice carried such intensity that anyone who heard it would shiver.
—
Meanwhile…
“Oh, Tobi dear, go to school,” Rose said as she handed Tobi his lunchbox.
Tobi took the lunchbox in his small hands, looking up at her with wide eyes. “Thank you, Ma.”
Rose nodded at his polite response and urged him toward the school entrance.
Tobi turned on his short legs, walking into the school, but he kept looking back and forth at Rose to see if she was still there.
Rose giggled at his behavior and couldn’t help but ask, “Dear, what’s wrong? Don’t you want to go to school today? We’re already here, so turning back isn’t possible.”
She spoke with a hint of dejection.
Hearing her words, Tobi suddenly ran back to her on his little legs.
“Mummy, it’s not that I don’t want to go to school. I do… but I was just waiting for you to leave first,” he whispered in a small voice.
Rose laughed softly, covering her mouth. “Hmm? Why do you do that?” she muttered with a slight pout before bursting into laughter.
Tobi lifted his tiny head, looking at her seriously before saying, “A man always watches his woman leave before he goes.”
Rose burst into laughter, rubbing Tobi’s head. “Ahh, you silly boy. I don’t know how that even makes sense! Anyways, who told you that?”
Her eyes narrowed slightly, and nearby, Darius shivered—oh boy, he had been discovered.
“Oh, Tobi dear, have fun. Mummy will come to see you later when school is over, okay? Do you understand, Tobi dear?” Rose chuckled, rubbing Tobi’s hair.
Tobi smiled, accepting her pat.
“Yes, Mummy. I’ll wait for you when you get here,” he nodded obediently.
“Now go, dear. Bye-bye,” Rose waved as Tobi turned and walked into the school on his short legs.
She let out a long sigh before turning to leave, but then she met a lady dressed in blue with short, curly brown hair. The woman stared at Rose, and Rose stared back. They both exchanged a nod of understanding.

“Ma’am, what a beautiful son you have here,” the lady said with a warm smile that never left her face.
Rose smiled upon hearing the lady’s words.
“Ah, thank you, dear. I might not want to brag, but I will admit he is.”
The lady laughed at Rose’s response. Rose couldn’t deny that she liked the feeling of someone praising her son. She wouldn’t lie—it felt good to hear someone admire her child.
…
Rose waved goodbye to the kind lady who had complimented Tobi. Once the woman left, Rose was about to go her own way when her phone suddenly rang.
She picked up the call without checking the caller ID and answered, “Hello? Who is this?”
She waited for a response, but there was silence on the other end. Then, after a brief pause, a familiar voice spoke.
“Rose, why did you leave without telling me?”
Rose’s hand trembled as she held the phone. She had to gather all her resolve to stop herself from hanging up.
“Rolan, why are you calling me?” she asked, staring ahead at the road.
“Rose… you left, and you didn’t tell me. Why did you do this to me?”
This time, she sensed something unusual in his voice—it almost sounded like he was hurt.
Rose forced herself to clear her heart of any lingering emotions. She wanted to make sure she was hearing correctly—how could he, a powerful Alpha, sound hurt?
Her heart raced as if it wanted to soften, but somehow, her wolf, Yuna, helped her stay calm.
“Hey, Rolan, you better not call me again. I want nothing to do with you. Go find my sister, go find Jennifer—don’t pester me. Don’t you get it, Rolan?”
Her voice rose with an annoyance she had never felt so strongly before.
She was no longer weak. Her heart had grown firmer; it wasn’t soft anymore. People who confused her or brought trouble into her life—it was better to drive them away before they complicated things even further.
“Rose, I’ll find you. I’ll find you wherever you are. Why won’t you come back to me? I can’t understand what problem you have with me.”
Rose sneered with bitter laughter at Rolan’s words. He was acting like a saint, as if he hadn’t wronged her.
Through all his actions, he had mistreated her in so many ways. Even if it wasn’t physical harm, the mental torture had been just as damaging. Worst of all, she had been left to die in her past life because of him.
She wouldn’t take any of this from him ever again.
No matter what had changed about him in this life, she couldn’t bring herself to care. She had already made her decision, and it no longer concerned her.
“Hi, Mr. Rolan. Bye—talk to you never. It would be a great favor if you never called me again.”
And with that, she ended the call.
