Chapter 52: Stay safe from the Sharks
Was this it? Was sSharks.ng to die here? Who would take care of her son? Who would be there for Tobi?
The plank—it was so close to her. Why had she decided to walk through this door, into this room? She should have just ignored it, just like Kelvin did, and everything would have been fine. But here she was, about to be crushed by a plank that bore most of her weight.
Rose closed her eyes, the sadness within them shutting along with her lids. Everything felt like the end. She had already imagined terrible things in her heart, her hand instinctively raised as if to shield her face and body from the falling plank.
Then, she felt a rush of wind. She wasn’t fully aware of what had happened, but her eyes caught a glimpse of the wood crashing down. Yet, somehow, she was no longer under it—she was on the other side, far away from where it had fallen.
Rose blinked, feeling a slight ache in her body. She coughed as dust filled the air—there was dust everywhere as the plank had crashed down.
She was fine, okay? She was all right. Nothing had happened to her. The plank hadn’t crushed her. She was alive—completely fine.
Rose bit her lip, subconsciously wiping away her tears as they fell onto her collar. She called herself stupid for even thinking she would lose her precious son.
A groan came from beside her, and Rose swiftly turned, only to find Mr. Kelvin lying flat on the floor—with her resting on top of him.
He looked like a mashed potato that had been completely flattened, and she was the masher.
Rose’s cheeks turned an awkward shade of rosy from both embarrassment and gratitude. Mr. Kelvin had saved her.
He was covered in dust, and he seemed hurt from the crash. He had taken the fall to protect her. Without him, what would have happened to her?
Pushing herself up from the floor, Rose hurried to help Mr. Kelvin.
She called out to him as if trying to bring him back to consciousness.
“Mr. Kelvin, are you okay? Can you hear me?”
A slight nod came from Mr. Kelvin, and Rose smiled, her heart finally calming down.
Such misfortune had happened so suddenly… It was a very bad omen for a place where she planned to build her company.
Mr. Kelvin wiped his hands back and forth in front of Rose as if pulling her out of her thoughts.
“Ahem.”
Rose glanced at his dust-covered face and coughed.
He had done that because she was just sitting there, ungrateful, without even thanking him. He was waiting for his thanks.
“You haven’t thanked me, Mrs. Rose.”
Rose raised her head in embarrassment, wondering why Mr. Kelvin was always so obsessed with being appreciated.
But… he had saved her.
“Didn’t I already thank you?” Rose stated, but then she paused and changed her mind.
“…Thank you for saving me, Mr. Kelvin.”
She saw a smile form on Mr. Kelvin’s face after she said that. But as he got up from the floor, his expression shifted—cold? No, just neutrally cocky, just like the first time they had met.
“We’ve seen the building. Do you like it, or do you want me to find another one?” Mr. Kelvin asked with his back turned to Rose.
But Rose wasn’t paying attention. Her eyes were instead locked on his dusty buttocks. His pants were covered in dirt.
She couldn’t help but point and say, “There’s dust behind you… on the place where you usually sit.”

Mr. Kelvin turned to her, one brow slightly raised.
“What exactly made your eyes wander to my butt, huh? Mrs. Rose, don’t tell me you’re thirsty for me.”
“Huh?” Rose’s face was filled with question marks—an invisible angry sign might as well have been included.
She gnashed her teeth. She was just trying to help, and here he was accusing her of staring at his butt. What would she even do with a man’s ass, for crying out loud? Mr. Kelvin was back to being weird again. Rose thought this with a bitter smile while forcing out a more neutral one in reality as she stared at him.
“I got it right, so you—”
Rose heard Mr. Kelvin click his tongue with a sneer, and she panicked, already knowing what he was about to say. Not letting him finish, she quickly cut in.
“Mr. Kelvin, please. Do you really want to walk around with a dusty butt? I was just helping you avoid some embarrassment. You wouldn’t want to be the topic of gossip among your own workers, would you?”
Mr. Kelvin folded his arms, staring at Rose seriously after she finished speaking.
“I see,” he simply stated, stepping majestically out of the room.
Rose stood there, puzzled, rubbing her palms. She felt like his last few short phrases were too deep, as if he didn’t fully believe her.
He didn’t believe her, Rose mumbled to herself, her mind racing as she imagined what image Mr. Kelvin might have of her now.
Maybe she was a pervert in his eyes—and more.
Rose sighed, wanting to walk out of the room, but she paused, turning to check her own backside to see if she had anything on it. She didn’t want to be the one to get embarrassed.
Mr. Kelvin was sitting in a single reclining chair, drinking hot coffee, when Rose finally left the room.
Rose stood there awkwardly. Mr. Kelvin took a final sip of his coffee, raised his head, and then asked, “Why are you standing there so sadly? You can’t see my… because I’m sitting.”
Rose faked a smile upon hearing his sarcasm and quickly found a seat nearby for herself.
“So, about this building… the distance is quite far from town,” Rose began, but Mr. Kelvin cut her off.
“So, you want to compete with the big sharks in town?”
Rose stayed silent, listening closely to what Mr. Kelvin was saying. He was getting to something interesting, and she kept her ears open, wanting to hear more.
“Wouldn’t you rather stay here, quietly and humbly build your company? Those who really want to be actors or actresses will go through the journey willingly.”
Rose paused, pressing her lips together as she stared at her own hands, watching them as if nothing else around her made sense.
She didn’t want to compete with the big companies and risk watching herself tremble and fall. It was better to stay here and build her own path.
