Chapter 55: Bring your husband with you to take the child
Rose ran into the school, walking through every corner to Tobi’s classroom, but he wasn’t there. She stopped in the hallway, resting anxiously with her hands on her waist.
Yuna’s voice echoed, “Try to sense his trail.”
Yumma nodded. Rose had almost forgotten this. Her blood was boiling—she was going to use her werewolf skills to find her son. Hopefully, he was okay.
With swift movement, Rose closed her eyes and opened them again, looking around. This time, she could see Tobi’s trail—his scent.
“We’ve finally found Tobi. We just need to get to where he is,” Rose murmured.
She rushed forward with Yuna close behind. She didn’t know how, but she was running faster than ever, desperate to find her son.
The place was dark. Rose found herself in the backyard of the school, standing in front of a really tall, dense fence. She looked up, feeling the scent grow stronger. This was it—this was the last place Tobi had been.
But something was off. The scent wasn’t just lingering here; it was stronger, as if Tobi was on the other side.
Rose paused, pressing her lips together. How did Tobi even get there?
Had he climbed over? Why would he do that?
Her heart pounded. If anything had happened to her son, she wouldn’t let the school get away with it. What kind of misfortune was this?
Rose bit her lip, praying that her son wouldn’t become a missing case.
He should be safe. He should be healthy.
“I’m climbing over,” she said firmly, stepping closer to the fence.
Yuna remained silent but gave her a small boost.
Because she was a werewolf, Rose easily leaped onto the fence, landing swiftly on the other side.
Standing in the dark forest beyond the school, she took a deep breath and whispered a prayer. Then, she started scanning the area for any sign of Tobi. If he had left something behind, anything, it would help her find him. But only his scent lingered.
Her body moved on instinct, her mind focused only on finding him. She knew that the moment she found something bad, she would break down.
Rose sighed, rubbing her temple. As she glanced around, her eyes landed on a small, crumpled piece of paper.
She furrowed her brows and bent down, picking it up.
Digits. A phone number.
Her heartbeat quickened.
“Yuna, his scent is here… and I found a number. I want to call it.”
Yuna hummed in response, and Rose hurriedly pulled out her phone, typing in the digits with trembling fingers.
Beep. Beep.
The phone rang.
Rose stood there nervously, waiting to hear the voice on the other end.
Finally, someone picked up.
A deep male voice answered, ” Greetings. How may I help you?”

Rose froze for a moment at the voice, then swallowed and proceeded carefully.
“Excuse me, sir. Have you… taken any kids?”
There was a brief pause.
Then, the man responded.
“Yes. I have a kid with me. He’s at the station. Who are you to him?”
Rose bit her lips and quickly answered the officer, “I’m his mother. I’m Tobi’s mother.”
She had never been asked this kind of question before. What kind of trouble had she gotten herself into?
Rose thought for a moment, feeling a little scared in her heart about what it might be. But Tobi was just a little child.
“Officer, tell me where you are—I mean, the station—and I’ll come to you,” Rose said.
There was a slight pause on the other end of the phone before the man stated the location. Then the call ended.
Rose stared at the phone, not expecting the call to end so soon, but it had ended.
Yuna observed Rose’s expression and sensed the worry in her mind. She couldn’t help but say,
“Do you want to move now? Shifting into wolf form is best for us right now.”
Rose saw that she had no choice. Turning around to go to a dark corner, she agreed with Yuna. Before she knew it, Rose allowed herself to morph. Green light emanated, and a white wolf with little green markings on its paws and tail appeared. Its eyes were deep green, glinting slightly with a lighter shade of green.
Watching out for any cars that might be nearby, Rose rushed to the location.
“Officer, I’m hungry,” Tobi said, holding onto the prison bars as he looked at Officer Isaac.
Officer Isaac stared at Tobi, realizing he wasn’t prepared for this—feeding a kid was not part of his job.
He had only brought the child here to either take him to an orphanage or return him to his parents if they showed up.
Tobi looked at the officer with big, expectant eyes, wondering why he still hadn’t been given anything to eat.
He hadn’t received any food yet.
Darius, watching the scene unfold, internally wailed.
Darius’s voice was dramatic as he said, “Brother, our kind are too big for this. Police officers don’t feed little criminals.”
“Brother, are we notorious criminals?” Tobi’s eyes widened with his question, and then his face turned pale.
“I don’t want to be a notorious criminal!” Tobi wailed, and Officer Isaac walked up to him to see why the child was crying.
“Why are you crying?” the officer asked.
Tobi quickly wiped his tears, as if he hadn’t been the one crying just moments ago.
“I don’t want to be a notorious criminal,” Tobi said sadly, his voice hushed as he looked up at the officer.
The officer chuckled and couldn’t control it. He first wondered where the kid had learned such words and vocabulary.
“Don’t worry, kid. We’ll wait for the lady who says she’s your mother before we begin.”
Speaking of Rose…
A female junior officer entered the room and saluted before informing him, “A blonde-haired lady is looking for you, sir. She says she’s here for her kid.”
Officer Isaac nodded, leaving Tobi behind and walking outside to attend to the guest.
Tobi kept staring outside in silence, his thoughts hidden in his heart.
“Darius, is that Mommy?”
“Could it be her?”
Darius’s voice came, and he answered, “It could be her. She’s not too close, but I could pick up her scent.”
Outside, where people were giving reports, Rose stood and saw a tall officer coming out.
“Excuse me, sir. Are you the one I spoke to?”
Officer Isaac nodded.
“Are you the mother of that child?” he asked.
“I am,” Rose said with confidence.
Officer Isaac gestured for her to follow him.
Rose followed him and arrived where Tobi was placed in a toy cell. She didn’t find that a problem; it would have been if it was the real thing.
“Your son was on top of a tall fence,” Officer Isaac stated with cold eyes. Rose’s heart skipped a beat as she turned to Tobi, wanting to confirm.
“Is that true, Tobi dear?”
“Yes, Mommy, it’s true. I just wanted apples,” Tobi said, looking at Rose with big eyes.
Officer Isaac sneered more at Rose.
“Ma’am, please, where is your husband?”
“He’s not here,” Rose said, not sure why she said that instead of simply admitting she didn’t have a husband.
Officer Isaac folded his arms and delivered the news, “Sorry, ma’am, I can’t let you take the child without seeing your husband.”
