Chapter 58: Moving in together
She held Rolan’s arms, their hands interlocked as her eyes met his. Rolan’s heart skipped a beat, and he looked at her.
“Yes, we are not running away, and we have nothing to be afraid of,” Rolan repeated after Rose.
A fire burned inside him, one that refused to die down. Even though this was all just an act, at this moment, he felt as if he and Rose were truly connected.
..
The dark, cold room creaked open as the key turned in the lock. Rose finally opened the door, her hands trembling slightly as she pulled Tobi inside.
She was about to turn around and close the door, pretending no one else was there, but Rolan pushed in, stopping her.
Rose’s eyes widened in shock, her mouth slightly agape. His mission was over, so he should leave. He had no reason to stand here. What else did he want? Was he getting strange ideas just because she had let him in for a moment?
He shouldn’t get his hopes up.
Rose’s glare was sharp, a silent warning urging him to leave. Rolan hesitated, his gaze awkward, as if he was about to say something that would make her both sad and pity him.
“Aren’t you going to leave? You’re not needed here,” Rose said coldly, watching him carefully to see if he understood. Her expression carried a hint of unease.
Rolan, however, just stared at her, his eyes holding something unreadable—something that made her nervous.
“Where should I go?” Rolan’s voice was sharp, his tone rising slightly.
Rose was about to shut the door in response, but before she could, Rolan swiftly caught her hand. A smirk tugged at his lips as his eyes flickered between hers and her lips. She was frowning, glaring at him like she wanted to set him on fire.
“Have you forgotten what the cops said? Eyes will be kept on us from now on.”
Rose yanked her hand out of his grasp the moment his words sank in, letting out a bitter smile.
Right. How could she forget?
She was under surveillance. If she didn’t stay with Rolan, they would take Tobi away from her.
She had no choice. She and Rolan had to live together.
But why did it feel like she was walking into a trap?
Rose glared at Rolan. “Maybe the cops are lying. Maybe they won’t really keep an eye on us,” she muttered, trying to convince herself as much as him. She didn’t want to live under the same roof as him. She didn’t need his presence messing with her mind. Right now, she needed peace, solitude—just her and her son. No one else. Especially not Rolan.
Rolan leaned against the doorframe, arms crossed, his expression annoyingly smug.
“If it’s the environment you’re worried about, you can stay at my place. Don’t you miss it? I bet the house misses you,” he said cockily, his tone laced with amusement.
His eyes studied her, searching for a reaction.
Rose frowned. Then frowned harder.
He was doing this on purpose. He knew she wouldn’t want to stay with him, yet he had the audacity to suggest it.
She clenched her fists before spitting out her words like venom. “Maybe the cops should just take me instead. You can go, Mr. Rolan. We don’t need your help anymore.”
She moved to shut the door again, but this time, Rolan pushed forward, using the door to trap her against it.
She had nowhere to go.
Pressed against the door, she could feel the warmth of his body close to hers. His scent wrapped around her, suffocating her.

Her pulse quickened.
Rolan didn’t move away.
And neither did she.
“Why is your tongue so sharp? You’ve already decided and picked me to help you, so I will. There’s no turning back.”
Rolan took a deep breath, his voice soft in her ears. His words carried a certain charm, an enigmatic pull that made her heart race despite herself. But she wouldn’t let it show. She masked the emotions rising inside her with a serious frown.
“Thank goodness you understand that I could have gotten someone else to help me,” Rose said confidently. “That’s why I’m telling you, Mr. Rolan, if you really want to help me, know your boundaries.”
After saying those words, she turned and walked into the house, moving through the living room as she searched for Tobi. Then, she heard sounds coming from the bathroom.
She couldn’t help but smile at the noises. She wondered what her baby might be doing. Was he brushing his little teeth?
Thinking of this, she walked toward the bathroom, leaving Rolan standing in the living room like a stranger—because, of course, he was one.
Rolan rubbed his palms together and glanced around the house, his expression unreadable. Then, a small smile formed on his lips.
So this is where she lives now… he thought to himself.
With that, he made himself comfortable, taking a seat on the couch and turning on the TV.
Inside the bathroom, Tobi was brushing his teeth, singing happily,
“Brush, brush your teeth, I’m brushing my little teeth!”
Darius echoed his words playfully.
Standing by the door, Rose peeked inside, her heart warming at the sight.
Her eyes widened slightly, and she smiled when Tobi turned his little head toward her, his bright eyes blinking up at her.
“Ah, so you’re brushing your teeth! That’s good,” she said gently. “Yes, you should always be a good boy and keep your teeth clean.”
Tobi nodded excitedly, proud of himself. “I’m Mommy’s good boy! I’ll always keep my teeth white—I don’t want Mr. Germ in them!”
Rose chuckled, her eyes softening as she watched him speak. His words were still a little unclear, but his enthusiasm was adorable.
Then, suddenly—
“Mummy, look! Uncle—”
Rose was caught off guard when Tobi pointed at the door. She quickly turned around and found Rolan standing there, arms crossed, a smirk on his face. His tall frame loomed over both her and Tobi.
The smile on Rose’s face vanished instantly.
Rolan.
Did he not understand the concept of personal space? What was he doing here?
“What the… what are you doing here?” Rose asked bitterly, her face tightening into a frown. “What if I was—”
Rolan’s smirk deepened as he stepped closer. “You’ve gotten feistier, Rose. And what’s there to hide? What haven’t I already seen?”
Before she could react, he suddenly reached for her waist, pulling her close.
Rose stiffened. Her eyes darted between Tobi and Rolan, her body tense.
“Keep your hands to yourself,” she hissed through gritted teeth. “You’re in front of a child.”
