Chapter 59: Awkward domestic life
Rolan raised his brow, then smiled subtly before letting Rose go. His eyes drifted to Tobi, who was looking at him with curiosity. He couldn’t help himself—he walked past Rose before she could react and went to Tobi, leaning down beside him.
“Hey, little boy, did you brush your teeth?” he asked.
Tobi hesitated.
“Do you like me, uncle? Do you like me?” Rolan asked again, gesturing toward his chest.
Tobi stared at him for a moment, then gave a small nod.
Rolan smiled, rubbing the boy’s head. “Would you like to rest with uncle?” he asked again.
Tobi blinked, then shook his head, instinctively taking a step back as if guarding himself.
Rose watched all of this, her eyes wide. Rolan was speaking easily with Tobi, and, to her shock, Tobi was responding—he wasn’t rejecting Rolan.
Her son… Rose’s heart felt like it would crash.
Rose walked down the street with some groceries in her hand. A shorter figure and a taller man walked beside her, almost as if they were her guards—but the little one couldn’t possibly be protecting her. If anything, it was the taller man acting as the guard.
She adjusted her glasses and whispered, “Is anyone watching us? Are the police keeping an eye on us?”
Rolan, standing beside her, glanced around before adjusting his own glasses.
“No, there’s no one. I can’t smell any cops out here,” he replied.
Rose stole a glance at him. He was so deep into his act, standing tall and handsome—it almost made her roll her eyes. Shaking her head, she changed her tone.
“Who even came up with this ridiculous idea of wearing glasses?” she asked, narrowing her eyes at him.
Rolan chuckled at her expression. “I didn’t come up with this on my own. You agreed to it, so now we’re both ridiculous.” His smile turned into a smirk as Rose huffed and looked away, adjusting her glasses while scanning the street.
“I was the one who suggested it,” Rolan added. “You asked for something that would make us look like a real couple, so these glasses are part of the disguise.”
“Oh, they’re part of the disguise because it was your idea,” Rose scoffed. “And when exactly did I say I wanted to look like a real couple with you?”
Before Rolan could reply, a small voice interrupted.
“Mummy, I’m hungry,” Tobi said, rubbing his stomach as it rumbled. He tugged at Rose’s sleeve.
Rose’s irritation melted instantly. She looked down at him with a soft smile. “Oh dear, let’s get you something to eat.” She glanced around before signaling to Rolan with her eyes.
Rolan wasn’t great at this. He was already struggling to pretend to be Tobi’s father. How would he react if he knew the truth—that he actually was Tobi’s real father?
Earlier, they had spotted Officer Isaac hiding behind cars and bushes, trailing them like a fly hovering over its target. Did he really think they wouldn’t notice? A werewolf could recognize a specific scent from miles away.
That day at the station, she had identified his scent immediately. Now, he was monitoring them closely.
Because of him, she and Rolan were forced to act like a real couple. Most of his advances were just for show, but Rose knew better. She kept reminding him that they weren’t getting back together. In her heart, she had already locked that door and thrown away the key.
A flashing sign caught her attention—a restaurant with a banner outside.
She turned to Rolan, putting on a sweet smile. “Dear, honey, what do you think? Should we go inside and find something for our son?”
Rolan immediately caught on to her act. Raising a brow, he leaned down and lifted Tobi into his arms.
“So, what do you want to eat, son?” he asked, smiling.

Tobi looked at Rolan but didn’t react to being called “son.” He was already used to it. This uncle kept calling him that, and his mummy never corrected him. In fact, she even called Rolan her “husband.”
So, to Tobi, it was okay.
“I want food that’s tasty. No pepper , just tasty. I don’t want to eat anything too sweet,” Tobi said in his small voice.
Rolan listened carefully, noting that the child wanted something simple and traditional. Rose stared at him, and for a moment, Rolan looked confused. Then, after hesitating for about thirty seconds, he reached out and held her hand.
Before, he had always been overconfident in expressing his feelings, but Rose’s attitude lately had made him hesitant.
He had almost kissed her back at the house, but at the last moment, he stopped.
He had almost made her give him a hand -job, but it ended with his little brother getting squeeze. Of course, he deserved it, especially after the way she had teased him earlier. The memory lingered in his mind, making his thoughts restless.
Rose wasn’t the shy type—she used to be someone he could easily flirt with. But now, her personality had completely changed.
They finally entered the restaurant. Just as they stepped inside, Officer Isaac emerged from the shadows behind a car, watching them with cold eyes.
“You barely escaped this time,” he muttered. “Next time, you won’t.”
With that, he walked to the road and hailed a taxi.
Inside the restaurant, Rolan and Rose sat at a table, ordering food for Tobi.
The waiter, holding a notepad, smiled politely.
Rose glanced at the menu and ordered shrimp and other traditional dishes for Tobi. Rolan sat there, arms folded, watching her with an expression that kept his thoughts hidden.
“Why are you looking at me like that?” Rose asked, pretending not to have noticed his gaze at first. She couldn’t hold it in any longer.
“No reason,” Rolan hummed, still watching her.
“Stop looking at me like that.” Rose’s face heated up, and she snapped at him. She couldn’t take it anymore.
“Here, eat this.” She pushed one of the dishes toward Tobi, using the food as an excuse to ignore Rolan and push him out of her mind.
After Tobi had eaten to his satisfaction, they paid the bill and walked out of the restaurant.
Rose stopped a taxi, paid the driver, and then turned to Rolan beside her. “The cop is gone. I can’t sense him anymore.”
“You’ve got good instincts,” Rolan said, his gaze shifting toward Tobi.
Rose’s eyes trembled slightly before she frowned, turning to look out the window, refusing to acknowledge him.
The thing about her wolf… it wasn’t something she wanted to talk about.
In her past life, she had never awakened her wolf. Her mother had hated her for it. She had wished for one, and now she had it. But she had no intention of explaining herself. They would find out for themselves. If they wanted to see that she had a wolf, then so be it. But she wasn’t going to beg for anyone’s approval.
When they arrived home, Rose changed Tobi into his pajamas and brought him into her room.
Rolan was about to head to the guest room when Tobi suddenly looked at him and asked, “Mummy, Uncle, why do you and Mummy sleep separately? Don’t you share a bed?”
Rose choked on air the moment she heard his question.
Her eyes immediately darted to Rolan, who was staring at her with an expression that made it clear—he wanted to hear the answer too.
