Chapter 92: people that gives complicated feeling in her house
Tobi was curled in Rose’s arms, his little body limp from exhaustion. He had barely made a sound since they took off, just clutching onto her like a lifeline.
Zara was already moving, stepping out first, her long coat billowing as she adjusted her grip on her bag. She turned back, her sharp eyes scanning Rose up and down. “Come on, let’s get out of here before I lose my hearing from this thing.”
Rose took a gentle breath and stepped down, careful not to jostle Tobi. Tobi barely reacted; his small hands only found themselves embracing her neck in his sleep.
Behind her, Rolan descended from the helicopter, his movements smooth and unbothered, his hands in his pockets like he hadn’t just walked out of a near-death experience. The man who had accompanied Zara followed last, his sharp eyes flicking between them before he turned toward the pilot—a silent exchange passing between them.
Another person approached, a mechanic or pilot dressed in black, taking over the aircraft. The moment the last of them stepped away, the helicopter was wheeled off, disappearing into the distance.
Rose didn’t look back. She just tightened her hold on Tobi and made her way toward the waiting car. Zara climbed in first, then Rose, carefully settling into the seat as Tobi curled up in her lap. His breathing was slow and peaceful, already lost to sleep.
Rolan slid in beside her without a word, and the man who came with Zara took the front seat. As soon as the door shut, the engine purred to life, and they pulled away from the airstrip.
For a moment, there was silence, only the soft hum of the car and Tobi’s gentle breaths against Rose’s collarbone. Then Zara turned to her, her sharp gaze narrowing.
“What the hell happened?” she demanded. “How did you even end up like this?”
Rose exhaled, shifting slightly to look at her. Her voice was flat, exhausted. “The car just… floated.”
Zara blinked. “Floated?”
Rose nodded. “One second, we were on the road. Next, everything was upside down. It was like the air just… lifted us. Then we crashed.”
Zara’s face twisted into something between horror and disbelief. “You’re telling me the car just flew?”
Rose shrugged, her arms tightening slightly around Tobi. “That’s what it felt like.”
“Jesus,” Zara muttered, running a hand through her hair. She let out a sharp breath before turning back to Rose, her expression softening just a fraction. “Thank God you’re okay.”
Rose gave a weak nod, her fingers absently stroking through Tobi’s curls.
Then, just as the tension started to settle, Zara’s gaze snapped toward Rolan, and her expression twisted into something accusing
“And you,” she pointed a perfectly manicured finger at him, “because of you, my best friend always ends up in some kind of accident.”
The air inside the car shifted immediately.
Zara’s accusation hung between them like a spark waiting to ignite. Rose barely reacted—too tired to argue, too drained to care. But Rolan?
He turned his head toward Zara, slow and deliberate, and then… he smirked.
It wasn’t a friendly smirk. It wasn’t even an apologetic one. It was the kind of smirk that sent a slow burn of irritation straight through Zara’s veins.
That lazy, knowing expression, like he found her anger amusing. Like he was waiting for her to explode.
Zara clenched her fists. “Don’t look at me like that.”
Rolan didn’t say a word. He just leaned back in his seat, eyes half-lidded, expression completely unbothered.
Zara’s jaw tightened. “I swear to God, it’s like every time Rose is with you, something ridiculous happens. Car crashes, kidnappings, near-death experiences—”
Rolan’s smirk deepened.
Zara groaned, throwing her hands up. “You think this is funny?”
He finally moved, tilting his head slightly, voice slow and smooth. “I think it’s interesting.”
Zara narrowed her eyes. “What the hell does that mean?”

He didn’t answer. He just glanced at Rose, who was still absently stroking Tobi’s hair, her expression unreadable. Then back at Zara, as if that was all the answer he needed.
Zara scoffed, crossing her arms. “Unbelievable.”
The tension in the car was suffocating now, thick with unspoken words and unsaid emotions. Rose closed her eyes for a moment, exhausted beyond words.
Tobi shifted slightly, pressing closer against her. The small, warm weight of him was the only thing grounding her.
The car continued its journey on the empty road, with city lights racing along with its movement.
Meanwhile, Rolan turns, enjoying this view, still smirking. Without saying a word.
The car rolled to a smooth stop in front of Rose’s house. The engine hummed for a moment before shutting off, leaving behind a heavy silence. Rose exhaled, shifting Tobi in her arms. He was still warm and heavy against her, lost in sleep.
Zara moved to get out, but before she could, the man beside her caught her wrist, stopping her mid-motion.
She turned sharply, eyes flashing. “What the hell—”
Rolan didn’t hold her tight, nor did he hold her loose. His eyes were just serene with a curving up smirk.
. Zara’s brows furrowed as if trying to read him, but after a beat, she huffed in frustration and looked back at Rose.
“I’ll come see you soon,” Zara said, her voice dropping slightly, almost reluctant. Then her eyes flicked toward Rolan, her expression hardening. “And don’t let him fool you with that innocent act. He’s just a predator.”
Rolan, still lounging in his seat, merely arched a brow. If he was offended, he didn’t show it.
Before Rose could say anything, Tobi suddenly stirred in her arms. His small body tensed, and his sleepy eyes fluttered open.
“Aunt Zara… don’t go,” he mumbled, sitting up slightly. His fingers clung to Rose’s dress, his voice groggy but pleading.
Zara hesitated. Damn it. She hated leaving her favorite kid behind. Especially with him.
She sighed and forced a smile. “I’ll bring you chocolate and ice cream next time. Deal?
Tobi blinked at her, rubbing his eyes. Then, after a long pause, he gave a slow, reluctant nod.
Zara ruffled his hair. “That’s my boy.”
Satisfied, she pulled away, shooting one last warning glance at Rolan before slipping back into the car.
As the vehicle pulled away, Rose let out a quiet breath, adjusting Tobi in her arms. But as she watched them go, her gaze lingered on the man sitting beside Zara.
For a brief moment, she could’ve sworn she saw him reach out, his fingers brushing against Zara’s hair like it was second nature.
Rose’s brows furrowed. Who was that man?
A question for another time. Right now, she had more important things to deal with.
Rose pushed open the door to her house.
Saying a brief prayer in her mind before walking in
Tobi needed to be cleaned up, checked for any injuries, and put to bed. She had no time for—
“Rose, darling.”
The saccharine voice sent ice straight through her veins.
Rose hearing the family voice,
Held Tobi close for protection, looking up at the person in her house.
There, seated comfortably in her living room like she owned the place, was Mrs. Stella.
Her mother.
Rose’s lips pressed into a thin line. She didn’t bother hiding the coldness in her voice as she said, “What are you doing in my house?”
Mrs. Stella simply smiled, crossing one leg over the other with practiced elegance. “I heard my favorite grandchild was missing. How could I not come?”
Rose’s eyes darkened. She didn’t move. Didn’t let Tobi go.
Tobi saw the grandma who gave him sweet cookies; he did not sense the fierce fight that was going between his mom and grandma. With his short legs, he ran to her.
“Grandma?” he mumbled.
Before Rose could stop him, Tobi wriggled free from her hold and ran straight into Mrs. Stella’s waiting arms.
Mrs. Stella smirked, one perfectly shaped brow rising as she met Rose’s gaze.
Checkmate.
…
Rose held back her irritation as she walked straight to her room, leaving Mrs. Stella and Rolan behind.
She shut the door softly, pressing her back against it as she exhaled deeply.
What were these two complicated people doing in her house?
Her emotions couldn’t handle the presence of the two people at the same time.
. Her mother, with her manipulative charm, and Rolan, with his unreadable gaze—they both carried too much history, too much baggage. And now, they were comfortably sitting in her space like they belonged there.
Rose groaned under her breath, dragging a hand down her face. She needed to focus. Tobi came first.
She grabbed her phone and dialed the doctor.
The line barely rang before a voice picked up.
“Ms. Rose?”
“Doctor, my son is sick. He needs treatment. Can you come over?”
The doctor’s response was immediate. “I’ll be there shortly.”
Rose let out a breath of relief.
At least one thing was under control.
When Rose stepped out of her room, she stopped short at the sight before her.
Rolan was talking to her mother.
Her grip on the phone tightened.
Her mother’s voice was sweet, extra sultry.
. “Jennifer asked about you,” she said smoothly, her eyes flicking to Rolan. “How’s your relationship with her?”
Rolan, lounging on the couch with a cold indifference, gave a simple answer. “It’s good.”
Something sharp twisted in Rose’s chest.
She bit her lower lip, not even sure why she felt this way. Annoyance? Discomfort?
Her gaze flicked to Rolan’s face, trying to read his expression.
But there was nothing.
No warmth, no irritation—just that same controlled coldness as he answered Mrs. Stella.
Still, something felt off.
Rose stepped back, realizing she had been eavesdropping from behind the door. But before she could slip away—
“Rose,” Rolan’s voice cut through the air, making her freeze.
Her breath caught.
Shit.
She had forgotten they were werewolves. Of course, they could scent her.
Slowly, she stepped out, trying to act nonchalant. But Mrs. Stella only raised a mocking eyebrow, her lips curling into a smirk.
“Eavesdropping, darling?” her mother said, her tone coming out as a mocking laughter.
Rose clenched her fists.
This was her house. And yet, it felt like she was the intruder.
