Chapter 93: A must kiss
“Eavesdropping, darling?” her mother said, her tone coming out as mocking laughter.
Rose clenched her fists.
This was her house. And yet, it felt like she was the intruder.
“What? Peeking? I wouldn’t. Why would I be peeking in my own house?” Rose smiled, walking confidently out of her hiding place. She refused to admit that she was eavesdropping on their conversation—she felt that would be too embarrassing.
“I see. I believe you,” Mr. Stella nodded with a smile,
like she was stupid, like he really believed her words.
Rose took a deep breath, sighing in her heart, thanking God, and thinking.
They bought her lie.
“Mummy,” Tobi called, attracting Rose’s attention immediately.
Hearing her precious son, Rose turned to look at Tobi sitting on the chair.
“Yes, dear? What do you want?” she smiled cheerfully, walking to him and kneeling beside him on the couch where he sat.
“I’m hungry.” Tobi rubbed his small belly as if showing it to Rose.
He had run to his grandma, hoping she had brought cookies, but she had not. Tobi couldn’t help but pout his small face. He was very hungry. How long had it been since he last ate? It felt like years.
Alarm bells rang in Rose’s heart as she heard Tobi’s words.
‘God, please forgive me,’ she chanted in her heart, then quickly rubbed Tobi’s hair and said,
“Honey, Mummy will make something for you real quick, alright?”
How could she have forgotten to feed her child? He hadn’t eaten anything since they were lost in the woods. She, an adult, was already feeling hungry—how much worse must it be for him?
Rose grumbled in her heart, then walked into the kitchen, checking the freezer and the kitchen cabinets. There were still some fresh potatoes in the cabinets and other dry ingredients. The rest of the food that needed to be preserved was in the freezer.
Rose held her chest and said, “Thank God.”
Then, she started arranging the ingredients, wanting to make food.
“Well, hold your horses,” Rolan’s voice came from behind, catching her off guard. She hadn’t noticed when he had arrived. His voice was followed by his arms wrapping around her waist.
“Darn it, Rolan! What are you doing?!” Rose questioned, her heart feeling like it was about to jump out of her chest. It was beating like drums.
She was scared. What would her mother do if she caught him doing such an intimate gesture with her?
Rose did not want an enemy like her mother chasing her back just because the man of her favorite daughter was close to her.
With widened eyes, Rose turned slightly toward the parlor, only to see Mrs. Stella saying something to Tobi. Tobi was listening attentively, and her mother’s attention wasn’t on her.
Rose thanked God silently and proceeded to remove Rolan’s hand from her waist, but his grip was tight, refusing to let go.
Rose cursed in her heart.
Crazy bastard!
“What are you doing, Rolan? Let go,” Rose whispered through gritted teeth.
Rolan chuckled lowly in her ear at her words. It was fun for him—he was enjoying her reaction.

“What are you willing to do for me so I’ll let you go?” Rolan smirked, his voice dropping to a low breath.
Rose’s breath hitched as his hot breath poured against her ear. He had leaned in closer, his face inches from hers.
What did he want? What could she give him?
She just wanted to punch him—that was all she needed to do. But she was afraid Rolan would overreact and raise alarms to Mrs. Stella if she truly hit him.
“What do you want?” she gritted her teeth, giving up.
There was no arguing with him here.
Rolan let out a low chuckle as if he had expected it.
Yes, he had expected it. He had noticed the strange vibe between Rose and her mother—like Rose was keeping extra distance from him because her mother was present.
He couldn’t help but take advantage of it.
Not that he had much of her weakness yet, but for now, he had a little.
“Can you please let go first?” Rose took a deep breath, closing her eyes before opening them again and speaking.
“No,” Rolan smirked and said, sounding like a manipulative jerk.
Rose gritted her teeth. She couldn’t outsmart him this time.
“If you let me go, I promise I’ll give you a kiss later,” Rose said.
Silence.
Rolan was very quiet before she heard a low chuckle coming from him. It wasn’t loud, but she could hear it because his lips were next to her ear.
“Bunny, you are interesting today. Since it’s such a nice offer, I wouldn’t dare refuse.”
Rose rolled her eyes and cursed in her mind.
That kiss? He will never find it. He thinks he’s smart? But I’m smarter.
“Now let me go—” Rose’s eyes darted to his arms still wrapped around her waist as she spoke, but before she could finish her words, he had already let go, walking to the parlor like nothing had happened.
Rose glared at Rolan as he walked away.
She brought out the best vegetables and started chopping them with anger, not forgetting to curse Rolan in her head.
“Crazy bastard.
Arrogant shrew.”
Her sorry fate was cutting the vegetables, slicing them sharply, making different sounds. Everything was cutting smoothly—until she cut her hand.
“Ahh!” Rose let out a small gasp, quickly covering her bleeding finger.
“Rose?”
Rolan had run toward her, rushing into the kitchen the moment he heard her cry. “What is it?” he asked, holding her injured hand.
“I just got cut,” Rose answered, her mind still filled with the pain coming from her finger.
“Are you…” Rolan started to speak but didn’t finish his words when the doorbell rang.
Ding Dong.
Rose moved back, putting distance between herself and Rolan, then rushed to the door.
It must be the doctor, she thought.
Peeking through the door and seeing the doctor, she finally opened it.
“Doctor, I’m glad to see you,” Rose said, inviting him inside.
The doctor nodded at her, and Rose went to Tobi, sitting him up since he had been lying lazily like a bear.
“Doctor, my son… He was lost in the woods for some time. I feel like he needs to get checked—just to make sure he’s not hurt or harmed anywhere.”
The doctor nodded and soon started checking on Tobi.
In the process, his eyes caught sight of Rose’s injured finger.
“You should go wash the blood off first. I don’t have purified cotton wool with me, so do that first, and then I’ll treat you later.”
“Yes,” Rose nodded, thinking she really needed to wash the blood off. It was such a tiny cut, but so much blood was coming out.
Rose walked out of the parlor to the bathroom in the guest room. Behind her, Rolan followed.
Rose was shocked to see Rolan’s reflection in the mirror as she washed her finger.
“What are you doing here, Rolan?” Rose grimaced, hating that she was alone with him in this empty space.
Rolan chuckled, staring at her face, which looked angry with him.
“I’m here to take my kiss, of course,” Rolan smirked, moving closer to her with no way out, then proceeded to hold her chin.
