Chapter 95: He wants a real life bear
Just when Rolan and Tobi were playing cat and mouse, enjoying their banter, Rose almost forgot that her mother was in the house. But the moment she walked in, Rose’s mood was instantly ruined. At that moment, her mother felt like a walking jinx. No, Rose reminded herself—she needed to make her leave the house.
“Rose, dear, I’m leaving. Rolan, you’re coming with me. Jennifer says she wants to see you.”
Her mother turned to Rolan, a smile curving on her lips, making her look like some divine being—gorgeous and untouchable.
Rose was relieved to hear that she and Rolan could finally leave, but the mention of Jennifer made her heart race.
Jennifer again? Would Rolan actually go with her? The thought made Rose uneasy in a way she didn’t like.
“Yes, Mrs. Stella. I’ll be going right now,” Rolan said expressionlessly from where he sat next to Rose, and her heart dropped even further.
At that moment, Rolan looked like an obedient dog to her mother and sister. He always forgot about Rose when it came to them. Sometimes, she felt confused—just like she did now. Would he really leave for Jennifer just because her mother told him to? Or would he stay?
“Rolan, stay.”
The words slipped out before Rose could stop them. She didn’t even know why she said it or what she was searching for. She just needed to be sure—though she wasn’t even sure of what.
Her mother’s expression immediately twisted into a grimace, and she turned to Rolan, her voice gentle yet firm.
“Rolan, let’s go. You wouldn’t want to keep Jennifer waiting.”
She smiled, looking even more stunning—harmless on the surface, but in that moment, Rose felt like she was anything but.
“Bunny, see you later.”
Rolan leaned in and kissed Rose’s cheek. His eyes seemed normal when he did it, but the moment he pulled back, they were neutral. Cold.
Her mother’s expression flickered for a moment, as if she hadn’t expected him to do that.
“Dear grandson, we’ll see you next time. Me and your uncle, okay?”
She walked to Tobi, pinching his cheek before heading for the door. Before Rose could react, she was already stepping out, Rolan walking alongside her.
The moment the door clicked shut, Rose immediately frowned.
Rolan. That crazy bastard.
She felt blinded by his strange reactions but forced herself to focus on the one thing that mattered—he left her. Again. For Jennifer.
She didn’t understand why she felt this way. She shouldn’t be like this. She had told herself not to care about him anymore.
But…
She couldn’t lie to herself any longer.
His presence was creeping back into her life, and no matter how much she wanted to deny it, she couldn’t just forget him. It wasn’t as if someone had wiped away her memories. Even if she was reborn, how could she possibly forget the man she once loved?
“Mummy.”
Tobi’s small voice pulled her out of her thoughts.
He was tugging at her sleeve, his eyes filled with concern.
Rose knew she had messed up. She shouldn’t have reacted like this in front of him. She had endured enough sadness as a child—she couldn’t let Tobi witness it too. She couldn’t let her sadness become his.
“Mummy, it’s okay, son.” Rose rubbed his hair, but he just looked at her like he didn’t believe a word she said.
“Son, Mummy is fine. I’m really telling the truth. Do you want to talk to Darius? You can talk to him.”

Rose mentioned Darius to distract Tobi, hoping to ease his worries. She smiled along with him, trying to reassure him.
“I’m tired,” Rose heard Darius say, and she rolled her eyes. Sometimes, Darius could be disappointing.
“Mummy, I want to sleep.”
Tobi’s voice was drowsy, his eyes closing groggily as sleep started to take over him.
Hearing his words, Rose smiled. Sleep would be best for him right now. He needed rest—he had been through enough stress these past few days.
“Come on, son, let’s get you cleaned up and put you to bed.”
—
Rose laid Tobi on the bed, tucking the sheets around him carefully. He had asked her to read him a bedtime story before he fell asleep, so she happily obliged.
“Once upon a time, there was a fairy…”
After reading for a while, Rose noticed that he still hadn’t fallen asleep.
“Son, won’t you go to sleep?” she asked, glancing at him.
“Mummy, there was a big bear there,” Tobi suddenly said, pointing his small fingers at the wall.
“What big bear?” Rose furrowed her brows.
“It had bright blue eyes, and it was walking towards me.”
Tobi continued speaking, but Rose’s expression turned serious. A bear with blue eyes? Where had he seen that?
Could it be from the cave?
Oh my god.
Rose gasped internally, feeling saddened
“What did the bear do, honey?” she asked gently, running her fingers through his hair.
Tobi looked up at her and then smiled.
“The bear did nothing to me. It just fell to the ground and wagged its tail at me like a dog.”
Rose blinked.
What a plot twist.
She had thought her son had faced some horror in the cave, but it turned out to be some kind of fantasy event instead.
“Oh really? The bear acted like a dog?”
“Yes! It did! And it also brought me honey,” Tobi said, giggling.
Well, that bear was certainly kind for bringing him honey.Tobi was such a kind soul.
“So, son, why did you suddenly start talking about that bear?” Rose asked, unable to hide her curiosity. Tobi had barely spoken since they returned.
“I want to see the bear again. Can it live in our house?”
Rose’s smile faltered slightly. He wants a bear.
“Honey, I’m sorry, but our house is too small for a bear,” Rose said, wanting to change the topic. That bear might have been kind to Tobi because he was pure-hearted, but for her?
Rolan had spoiled her rotten. She wasn’t a pure soul anymore.
“Honey, if you still want to have money, then you can’t have a bear,” Rose said gently, slowly running her fingers through Tobi’s hair so he wouldn’t feel sad about her words.
“But bears are cute,” Tobi pouted, and Rose almost laughed.
“How about this—when you turn 19, we’ll get you a bear?” she said, making a playful negotiation.
“Okay! You’ll give me a bear when I’m 19! Mummy, you promised!”
Her son didn’t know he had just been tricked.
By the time he turned 19, he would have long forgotten about this conversation.
Rose couldn’t help but laugh in her heart, picturing herself as a big, bad Disney Villain.
