Chapter 97: Protection of a father
[Unknown: It’s me, Damien. Did I scare you?]
Damien?
Rose asked herself, feeling a strange sense of unease. The way he texted… it felt different from what she expected.
[Rose: Why did you say those things? You sound weird.]
She almost turned to look around her house, a sudden paranoia creeping in—was there a camera somewhere?
[Damien: Cupcake, it’s because we’re mates. What do you think?]
Rose’s jaw dropped.
Cupcake?
He sounded way too confident today—far more than before, more than when they first met.
[Rose: Why have you decided to text me?]
She tried to think of who could have given him her number.
It couldn’t be Jennifer…
[Damien: My brother, of course. Who else? I asked, and he just gave it to me.]
Rose mumbled a low curse.
So Kelvin had given him her number.
Her number wasn’t safe from anyone—not even Rolan.
[Rose: So, do you have anything important to say, or did you just text me for no reason?]
She trailed her gaze toward the window before sending the message.
It took longer for Damien to reply this time.
[Damien: I do have something to say.]
[Rose: What is it?]
Rose quickly replied, and Damien responded just as fast.
[Damien: We are mates. You don’t have another man in your life, so why do you reject me?]
The text didn’t sound aggressive. Rose’s eyes focused on the words, reading them repeatedly.
Her hands stopped mid-air, unsure of what to type.
[Damien: Can’t you see? Me being your mate proves that I’m the one meant to be with you.]
Rose’s eyes trembled as she read his message.
Damien wasn’t saying anything wrong. What he said made sense.
But why was she still hesitating?
She couldn’t figure it out. It was as if she still had feelings for Rolan.

[Rose: I’ll think about it.]
She found herself typing those words, accepting that this was her reality.
For some reason, she didn’t feel uncomfortable talking to Damien.
In fact, she felt at ease.
[Damien: Do you want to meet someday?]
Rose stared at the text before replying.
[Rose: Sure.]
She answered without hesitation.
She felt different now, as if the dream had changed her.
She was no longer blinded by past emotions.
When given a second chance, you should move forward.
Normally, she would have been guided by the men in her life… but with Damien, she found herself peacefully calm.
“Good night, sweet dreams. Don’t have nightmares again,” Damien said.
Rose still couldn’t figure out how Damien knew she was having nightmares.
She sighed, wanting to put her phone down and go back to sleep. Talking to Damien had relieved her a little, taking away the lingering fear.
Ping!
Just as she was about to fully fall asleep, her phone lit up again.
“Could it be Damien?” Rose muttered, but when she checked, she saw it was Zara.
A smile bloomed on her face.
[Zara: How are you, bestie?]
Rose quickly replied.
[Rose: Not fine. I had a nightmare.]
[Zara: What was it about?] she texted with concern.
[Rose: I had a dream about my past life.]
Rose frowned slightly before typing. Talking about it made it feel as if everything was happening all over again, even though she wanted to forget.
[Zara: Don’t worry. Everything will be okay.]
Rose smiled as she read the message before replying.
[Rose: I hope so. My choices will decide where I go from now on.]
“I have something to share with you,” Zara suddenly texted, and Rose raised a brow.
[Zara: Rose, you really need to stay away from Rolan. I did some investigating, and the car that crashed with you guys—it was caused by Rolan’s enemy. You should really stay away from him. He’s being hunted right now.]
Rose paused, pressing her lips together. It was just as she had expected. Any harm that happened was always because of Rolan.
She and him were like two dead stars.
No—when she was with him, bad things always happened to her.
[Rose: I hear you, Zara. I won’t be foolish and make mistakes again.]
[Zara: Well, don’t be foolish. If you are, I’ll come over there and whoop you.]
Rose almost laughed.
—
Rose’s father sat in the living room, a newspaper in his hand as he read.
Mrs. Stella walked in, this time with her lover beside her.
Mr. Stewart stood up, ignoring the strange man—who was much younger than him—and instead focused on Mrs. Stella’s pretty face.
“Stella, aren’t you sick and tired of all this?”
His face carried a grimace, showing just how fed up he was with his wife.
Stella laughed instead, as if his words were amusing.
“What wrong did I do? I’m bringing him to the house, but at least not into our bed,” she said with a smile, as if there was no sin in what she was doing.
Mr. Stewart took a deep breath, clearly controlling his anger.
“I have one thing to say to you, Stella. I’ve heard that you’ve been getting close to Rose and her child lately. I’m only going to tell you this once—stay away from her. I know exactly how evil you can be,” Mr. Stewart said, pointing at her, his tone serious.
Mrs. Stella’s expression darkened. “Stewart, stay out of my business. Don’t ruin my plans. Rose and her child belong to me—I can do whatever I want,” she said.
Her words sounded like those of a caring mother, but Mr. Stewart could see the hidden mockery in her eyes.
This woman—he had been married to her for more than five years. He knew exactly the kind of person she was. And now, she was approaching his precious, innocent daughter. He wouldn’t let her succeed in whatever she was planning.
“Your little lovers outside don’t concern me. I’m only telling you to stay away from Rose and her child. You’ve already ruined her entire childhood—enough is enough. I’m warning you, Stella,” Mr. Stewart said. With that, he sat back in his chair, picking up his newspaper as if nothing had happened.
Mrs. Stella stood there, glaring at him with dead eyes. But after a while, she laughed and walked upstairs with her younger lover.
As she disappeared up the stairs, Mr. Stewart pulled out his phone and dialed a number.
“Alpha Rolan, where are you? I need to talk to you about my daughter, Rose.”
