Chapter 98: Father in-law warning
Rolan shot the gun straight at the tree, and it hit the bullseye.
His phone had just rung, and he picked up the call. Wow, it was Rose’s father. He hadn’t expected him to call. The man was like a shadow—always hiding. You couldn’t see him or even know he existed. His presence was always forgotten.
When he picked up the call, Mr. Stewart only said that he wanted to talk. Rolan furrowed his brow, not sure what this meant, but he agreed to go see Rose’s father since it was about Rose.
Rolan called Alfred. Alfred came running to him.
“Take the gun and keep it. I’m going to see Rose’s father. Inform my mother I’ll be back.”
Alfred nodded as Rolan spoke. Rolan also gave a slight nod before heading out.
He was at the outskirts of the pack, doing some training. There were some enemies after him, and he feared they would interfere with his quiet moment with Rose—just like they had interrupted them when he was in the car with her.
He feared that because of this, Rose might keep away from him. She had always done this—keeping away from him every time danger came.
Rolan drove his car to the location Rose’s father sent.
It was up on a high bridge, a secluded place that was barely approached. He didn’t even think anyone ever came there.
The car made a rumbling sound as it parked on the hill.
Dust flew in the air.
Rolan opened the car door and stepped out, only to see the back of a man in a white suit, his hands in his pockets, and his smooth golden hair shining.
Rolan took a deep breath and approached the man, whose back was to him, his face directed toward the blue sky and the hills below.
“Mr. Stewart, long time no see. You called me here for me?” Rolan said the moment he stood beside Mr. Stewart.
“Long time no see, Alpha Rolan,” Mr. Stewart said, turning to look at him, his eyes staring calmly.
“You called me. You said it was about Rose. What is it? Tell me,” Rolan asked, getting straight to the point. He didn’t want to be kept on standby when it came to Rose—he needed to know quickly.
“I must say, you do have a lot of enemies these days. And you have also been around my daughter.”
Mr. Stewart didn’t need to complete his words before Rolan understood what he was going to say.
“Mr. Stewart, I don’t understand you. The relationship between me and Rose is our problem. You should not put your mouth in it. I can take care of Rose pretty well. I don’t know why you are concerned about this,” Rolan said, trying to control his temper.
Mr. Stewart sighed after hearing Rolan’s words. “Rolan, Rolan. Are you not happy with Jennifer? Rose left you for many years. You should know the reason why she left you. Do you want to force yourself into her life again? Don’t you think it’s time for you to let her go?”
Rolan’s eyebrows furrowed more at Mr. Stewart’s words. He hated when people tried to separate him and Rose. She had left him for three years and had only now returned. He knew it was his own fault—he had been cold at that time and didn’t understand her. But now, he had feelings for her, and he wanted her back in his life. But there always seemed to be forces and people trying to stop him.
Mr. Stewart shook his head as Rolan’s frown deepened, as if he didn’t understand what he was saying.
“Rolan, you are an Alpha. You can have any female you want. You are rich and powerful. Every year, you could have a new one. But Rose… she is different. There are some things I cannot say to you, but I will tell you this—whenever you are with Rose, she is always in danger. Although the danger might not come from you, sometimes it comes from other places. I am begging you, please be very careful with Rose. If you truly want her to be happy, stay away from her.”
A vein popped on Rolan’s forehead.
So, this was why the man called him here? Just to tell him to stay away from Rose?
He shouldn’t have come.
He wouldn’t listen to this nonsense.
“So, Mr. Stewart, as my father-in-law, you call me after so many years just to say this? We have not talked in ages, but now that you’ve finally reached out, this is what you want to tell me? What if I say I will not listen to you? Rose… I am going to make her mine again. We are going to be happy. She is the only woman I want in my life right now, and nothing will change that.”
Mr. Stewart choked upon hearing what Rolan said.

“Rolan, you’re being selfish. I’m telling you my daughter is in danger, yet you’re saying you can’t stay away from her? That you want to make her yours? Don’t you understand? Every time she’s with you, she’s in danger. Can’t you see that? This is the last time I’ll say this—I won’t repeat myself again. Stay away from Rose. Leave her alone. Don’t disturb her.”
With that, Mr. Stewart turned his back to Rolan and walked away. A black car was parked on the hill. He stepped inside, started the engine, and drove off, leaving dust and gravel crunching under the tires.
Veins bulged on Rolan’s forehead as he clenched his fists, his breathing heavy. He muttered under his breath, “Rose… why can’t we be together? Why is everyone always trying to keep us apart? Why do they keep trying to separate us? No matter what they do, I will make us be together again. I don’t know why you fear me, or what sins I’ve committed against you… but, Rose, I just want you to forgive me. And if you won’t be mine willingly…” His eyes darkened. “Then I’ll take you by force.”
For a moment, he stood still, staring at the horizon. Then, he walked to his car, sat down, and pulled out his phone. Scrolling through his contacts, he found Rose’s number and typed a message.
[Rolan: Rose, can’t you text me if I don’t text you? What are you doing?]
No answer.
[Rolan: Rose, what are you doing today? Can we meet?]
Still no answer.
Rolan clenched his phone tightly in his hand, his frustration growing. He kept looking at the screen, waiting, hoping for a response that never came. His chest felt tight, his mind racing. If she wouldn’t reply through text, then he had no choice—he was going to see her in person.
