Chapter 104: Mayor Jiang’s Invitation

An Nuan and Ren Di greeted Mayor Jiang and his wife before exchanging a few words.

Of course, Mayor Jiang and his wife’s attention was on An Nuan who stood beside Lin Xiao Feng.

“I was surprised when this kid announced he was married last night,” Mayor Jiang said. His eyes trailed on An Nuan. “I told him to bring his wife home so that I can take a look at her. But this kid always came up with many reasons.”

An Nuan glanced at Lin Xiao Feng.

She had never heard Lin Xiao Feng mentioning the mayor’s invitation.

“Mayor Jiang, it’s not that I didn’t want to bring my wife to see you and your wife,” Lin Xiao Feng said. “But she still has a few matters to resolve in Y City.”

An Nuan flashed an apologetic smile to the mayor and his wife. She let out a breath of relief as Lin Xiao Feng quickly came up with an excuse for her.

“Has it been resolved?” Mayor Jiang asked, seeing that she had appeared beside Lin Xiao Feng.

“There are still a few matters left.” Lin Xiao Feng tightened his grip on An Nuan’s hand before turning to her with a smile. “This time, my wife is visiting Capital City for a few days. She will be returning to Y City soon.”

“You both are a newly wedded couple. How can you bear being apart from each other for too long?” Mayor Jiang heaved a sigh. “When I married my wife, I was unwilling to leave her side for a few months. As a newlywed couple, aren’t you still in your honeymoon period?”

Madam Jiang poked her husband on his arm. “Why are you saying all this? Don’t make a joke in front of the young couple. You have thick skin but I don’t.”

“I don’t mind.” Lin Xiao Feng chuckled. “Our elders are in Y City. It’s good to have someone to look after them. Besides, I often go back to Y City. I can still see my wife frequently.”

Mayor Jiang’s wife looked at the Lin couple alternately. “I am suddenly curious to know how you two met.”

Lin Xiao Feng glanced at An Nuan again. “Mmm… We are neighbors.”

“Ah…” Mayor Jiang smiled. “So, a childhood sweetheart?”

Lin Xiao Feng laughed as he was too lazy to explain.

An Nuan hid her smile before glancing at Lin Xiao Feng.

Seeing that the mayor was talking casually with Lin Xiao Feng, An Nuan guessed that their relationship should be very close. An Nuan met the mayor’s wife’s eyes and saw the shy smile on her face.

Mayor Jiang said a few words to Lin Xiao Feng and An Nuan as an elder. “Next time you come to Capital City, you must come to my place. My wife is a good cook.”

The wife poked at her husband’s arm again before looking at An Nuan calmly. “Yes. Just tell me when you are visiting. I will prepare a feast for you.”

The two couples exchanged a few more words.

Then, Mayor Jiang’s wife reminded her husband not to disturb others who came to have a meal at the restaurant. It was only then that they parted and headed to their separate rooms.

Of course, An Nuan had promised to visit the mayor’s place the next time she visited Capital City before they left.

The waitress led Lin Xiao Feng’s party into their room and took their order.

Lin Xiao Feng had preordered a few dishes when he made the reservation the other day. This time, he let Ren Di choose any additional dishes as she was his guest for the day.

“The mayor’s relationship with his wife is pretty good,” An Nuan commented as the waitress left the room.

Lin Xiao Feng smiled. “Well. Mayor Jiang is well-known as someone who loves to pamper his wife a lot.”

An Nuan heaved a faint sigh as she recalled the couple’s interaction earlier. Mayor Jiang liked boasting about his wife while his wife was quite shy about it. She felt that the older couple was quite cute together.

“And you.” An Nuan looked at Lin Xiao Feng again. “You are close to the mayor as well?”

“Hmm…” Lin Xiao Feng nodded. “You know that I work for the mayor’s office. Mayor Jiang is considered my mentor.”

“Why didn’t you mention about Mayor Jiang’s invitation?” An Nuan asked. “I could make time to visit if you mentioned it earlier.”

Lin Xiao Feng flashed an assuring smile. “Well, you are here for another event. Moreover, it isn’t convenient to arrange a meal with Mayor Jiang this time. He is quite busy with his work as well.”

An Nuan stared at Lin Xiao Feng, wondering if he was telling her the truth.

She quickly retracted her gaze again as the waitress entered their room to pour some water for them.

An Nuan pondered over Lin Xiao Feng’s work again.

This time, it was the mayor who invited Lin Xiao Feng for a meal.

She wondered if Lin Xiao Feng received a few other invitations that would require her presence?

After all, Lin Xiao Feng was in politics and his job would require him to attend a lot of events to socialize.

An Nuan knew that there would be a few events that would require Lin Xiao Feng to attend with his wife. However, Lin Xiao Feng did not say a word to her.

Once again, An Nuan wondered if she should consider moving to Capital City to accompany Lin Xiao Feng.

After all, she had promised to help Lin Xiao Feng for as long as they were married.

An Nuan snapped out of her thoughts as Lin Xiao Feng started to converse with Ren Di.

She had almost forgotten that today’s meal was arranged to let Lin Xiao Feng get to know her friend, Ren Di better.

An Nuan reminded herself to put her worry at the back of her mind and focus on Ren Di today.
