“What were they thinking?” Shi Xi said. There was a hint of anger in her voice. “That Pei family… Do they think that we are easy to bully? Coming over to our residential area and putting on that pitiful look on their face.”

“Mom, calm down,” An Jian said. His tone of voice was light. “Don’t be angry.”

“How can I not be angry when facing a shameless family like that?” Shi Xi huffed. “Coming to block our path whenever we go in and out of the residence is one thing. But making up stories in front of others is unacceptable.”

An Jian took a glass and poured some water for his mother, hoping that it would help his mother to calm down.

“I was with Lin Xiao Feng’s mother when Mrs. Pei stopped us at the entrance,” Shi Xi continued after draining half of the glass. “Fortunately, Song Luan knew about our family’s situation and did not believe that person’s nonsense.” She paused to inhale a deep breath. “I lost count of just how many times we have called the police to drive them away.”

An Jian heaved helplessly.

It was difficult to stop the Pei family when they were only hanging around the residential gate. According to the law, they were not doing anything wrong. They did not disturb other people except when the An family came out.

Dealing with them was quite a headache.

An Jian could not understand what the Pei family was thinking as well.

When Pei Zhi Yi was in a relationship with his younger sister, they did not cherish her well.

Shi Xi snorted. “I just hope that they will come to their senses soon. I don’t know how long they will try to embarrass us. Nuan Nuan is already married. But they are not planning to let her go. Ah Jian, I’m telling you that the family is a bunch of shameless bloodsuckers.”

Shi Xi knew well that Mrs. Pei had come to haunt her because Pei’s business had run into some trouble.

In the past, would that woman come to their house willingly?

An Jian chuckled. “Then you should thank Pei Zhi Yi for leaving in the middle of the wedding.”

Shi Xi’s expression turned awkward.

She was indeed happy that Pei Zhi Yi did not marry her daughter. However, she also hated that Pei Zhi Yi was hurting her daughter.

Hearing her son’s words, Shi Xi shot a displeased look at her son.

“Alright, Mom, don’t be angry anymore,” An Jian tried to coax his mother. “I will meet with the security later and discuss with them what we can do to stop this nonsense. If you don’t like Mrs. Pei to bother you, then why don’t you consider going on a vacation with your friends? At least you won’t see Mrs. Pei for a few weeks.”

Shi Xi clicked her tongue. “This is my house. Why do I have to leave for that woman?”

“It’s just temporary.” An Jian sighed.

He remembered his conversation with Lin Xiao Feng not too long ago. According to that man, the Pei family should stop disturbing them soon.

Shi Xi pondered over her son’s suggestion. “No. I won’t leave. Who knows what nonsense that woman would speak when I’m not around. Besides, Nuan Nuan is still at home. I don’t want her to worry.” Her voice softened as she spoke about her daughter. “I will fight that woman if she comes to look for trouble again.”

An Nuan stood behind the wall as she continued to listen to her mother and elder brother’s conversation.

She knew that the Pei family was causing trouble. However, An Nuan did not think that they would act this crazy.

An Nuan wondered if there was anything that she could do to stop them.

Her mother’s conversation lasted for a while.

An Nuan looked up and saw that a housekeeper was walking in her direction.

As their gazes met, An Nuan placed a finger on her lips, signaling the housekeeper not to make any noise. Then, An Nuan walked into the kitchen and flashed a smile. “Mom.”

Shi Xi looked surprised at her daughter’s sudden appearance.

An Nuan pretended as if she had not noticed the change in the atmosphere in the kitchen. She walked to the kitchen counter and took a few grapes on the table. “Mom, what are you making for dinner?” An Nuan looked at her mother and elder brother alternately. “Elder Brother, you are here as well.”

The mother and son exchanged a look. They both agreed to stop discussing the Pei family while An Nuan was around.

Shi Xi quickly adjusted her mood and smiled at her daughter. “What? Are you hungry?”

“Hmm…” An Nuan looked at the ingredients on the kitchen counter. “I was just thinking that it has been a while since I get to eat your braised meat.”
