An Nuan shifted her gaze to the television. There was news about natural disasters in the north. However, she was not paying attention to it. An Nuan silently observed her mother while thinking of something that her mother might have said earlier.

She seemed to realize that her family members had never really liked Pei Zhi Yi.

They were relieved to know that she was not marrying Pei Zhi Yi.

The thought almost made An Nuan laugh. “Mom, you don’t like Pei Zhi Yi that much. I heard Elder Brother say that you should be thanking Pei Zhi Yi for leaving me on my wedding day.”

Shi Xi’s expression darkened. “Don’t listen to your Elder Brother. He’s speaking nonsense.”

It was true that Shi Xi was glad that her daughter was not marrying Pei Zhi Yi. However, it felt uncomfortable when her daughter said it out loud.

She knew her family members spoiled her and let her do whatever she wanted.

“We thought that Pei Zhi Yi did not deserve someone like you,” Shi Xi continued. “We also thought that after the two of you were married, he would change to be a better person for you. “What about him?” Shi Xi looked at her daughter in puzzlement.

“You don’t like Pei Zhi Yi that much,” An Nuan said. “But what about Lin Xiao Feng?”

Shi Xi tapped her daughter’s nose. “Xiao Feng is the boy that I watched while he grew up. What do you think?”

An Nuan knew that her question sounded silly. Of course, her mother would like Lin Xiao Feng as compared to Pei Zhi Yi.

“Are you relieved that I am married to him?” An Nuan asked.

Shi Xi had a complicated look on her face. She was not planning to answer her daughter’s question but the curious look on An Nuan’s face changed Shi Xi’s mind.

Perhaps this was a good chance for them to have a heart-to-heart conversation since they were talking.

“It would be a lie to say that I am not relieved,” Shi Xi said. “Xiao Feng is a good boy. With him, I can be assured that he will look after you. He won’t let you suffer any grievance. But still, I am worried about your marriage.” Shi Xi sighed.

An Nuan sat up straight and waited for her mother to continue.

An Nuan stayed in silence as she pondered over her mother’s words.

“Mom, I want to hear your opinion,” An Nuan said.

“You should probably have guessed what I will tell you,” Shi Xi said. “Based on my relationship with Lin Xiao Feng and Song Luan… of course, I do hope that you and Xiao Feng will stay together.” Shi Xi laughed. “Nuan Nuan, you already know that I have a good opinion of Xiao Feng. I might be a little biased.”

An Nuan snorted.

She could see that her family liked Lin Xiao Feng just by watching them each time Lin Xiao Feng visited their house.

“As your mother, I hope that you will be happy,” Shi Xi said. “I want you to do what you want to do. Currently, your marriage with Xiao Feng might be nothing more than a marriage in name. But Nuan Nuan, Mom hoped that you and Xiao Feng will be able to open your heart and look at each other. Just like everyone else, I hope that you and Xiao Feng will be able to give each other a chance to make your marriage work.”
