Chapter 128: Things Changed

Ren Di did not dare to let An Nuan drive.

Seeing that her friend was leaving the scene, Ren Di quickly slid into the driver’s seat, forcing An Nuan to turn to the other side.

Once An Nuan had closed the door, Ren Di drove away. She understood that An Nuan did not wish to stay around the area for too long after saying a few words to her ex.

A few minutes later, Ren Di pulled over the car in front of An Nuan’s house. She inhaled a deep breath before turning to her friend. Her lips were pursed tightly. Ren Di was going to look at An Nuan’s expression but it was hard when An Nuan was looking out the window.

“Nuan Nuan,” Ren Di called her name after a brief silence. “Are you alright?”

An Nuan did not answer.

But Ren Di could hear the sound of An Nuan’s sniffling.

She tightened her grip on the steering wheel, knowing An Nuan was not in a good mood.

Ren Di wanted to say something to coax her friend but she did not know if anything she said would be appropriate. Ren Di could tell that An Nuan would want some space to calm down.

“Nuan Nuan,” Ren Di called again. “Let’s go inside first. Your elder brother–”

The words that Ren Di wanted to say did not leave her lips when An Nuan turned around suddenly and hugged her tightly.

Ren Di was momentarily stunned. An Nuan’s sobs snapped her out of her trance. Then, Ren Di raised a hand and started to pat An Nuan’s back, giving her comfort.

With Ren Di’s touch, An Nuan began to cry harder.

The last time An Nuan had cried this hard was probably a few months ago. It was at a hotel in T Country. Back then, An Nuan had just ended her long relationship with Pei Zhi Yi. Since then, An Nuan has never cried that hard again.

Ren Di understood that An Nuan was determined to forget her feelings for Pei Zhi Yi and move on. An Nuan wanted to part peacefully with Pei Zhi Yi.

However, Pei Zhi Yi continued to pester her. He and his family were like ghosts that kept lingering.

Each time An Nuan ran into Pei Zhi Yi, she would end up in a bad mood.

The sound of An Jian’s car driving into the area forced An Nuan to stop crying. She pulled away from Ren Di and wiped the corner of her eyes.

An Nuan was still wiping her tears when An Jian walked over to the car and knocked on the window.

“Nuan Nuan.” An Jian called her name.

An Nuan inhaled a deep breath. Then, she opened the door and stepped out.

An Jian’s expression turned darker when he saw his younger sister’s reddened eyes. “Nuan Nuan…”

If he had known that An Nuan was going out and returning home around this time, An Jian would not have stopped his car and talked to Pei Zhi Yi. He would not give Pei Zhi Yi a chance to see An Nuan or talk to her.

In the end, An Nuan was unhappy because of him.

“Elder Brother, don’t say anything,” An Nuan’s voice was a bit hoarse.

“Alright.” An Jian was still unhappy that his younger sister would cry after meeting her scumbag ex.

“Elder brother, I’m going in,” An Nuan announced. “Can you help me? I don’t want our parents to see me in this situation.”

An Jian heaved a sigh, knowing that his younger sister did not want to let their parents worry. “Alright. Let’s go.”

Ren Di already alighted from the car the moment she saw An Nuan step out to speak to her elder brother. Hearing their conversation, Ren Di quickly followed after them.

An Jian looked around the house. Once he was sure that their mother was not around, An Jian let An Nuan run off to her room without encountering anyone else.

A faint sigh escaped his lips as he watched An Nuan close the door behind her. An Jian turned around and saw Ren Di behind him. “Help me to look after her.”

“Alright.” Ren Di nodded. She knocked on the door before letting herself in to check on An Nuan.

After returning from her shopping trip, An Nuan did not leave her room again.

Ren Di stayed with her for a few hours and finally left when An Nuan assured her that she was fine.

An Nuan did not leave her room even after dinner.

Fortunately, Ren Di had mentioned to An Nuan’s mother that An Nuan was too tired after walking around the mall. Since they had their meal before returning home, Mother An decided not to bother her tired daughter.

An Nuan sat on the carpeted floor with her knees pressed against her chest. Her thoughts were on her relationship with Pei Zhi Yi.

The two of them have been together for a few years and went through a lot of situations together. Most of her memories about Pei Zhi Yi were sweet and happy ones.

She loved him very much. An Nuan had thought that by this time, she would have been Pei Zhi Yi’s wife.

But things changed.
