Chapter 178: Her Parents’ Reasons

After sending An Nuan a bouquet the other day, Lin Xiao Feng continued to surprise An Nuan with a few other gifts.

Sometimes, he would send her chocolates or the famous dessert from Zhang Yu Han’s hotel.

“I was just curious…” An Nuan said. “Mom, in the beginning, you and Dad thought that finding a substitute was a crazy idea. You were against the idea even after Lin Xiao Feng volunteered. Why did you suddenly change your mind?”

An Nuan was never curious about what Lin Xiao Feng had told her parents. But it was different now that their situation had changed.

Shi Xi flashed her daughter a mysterious smile. “It’s a secret.”

“Mom.” An Nuan grew frustrated.

Shi Xi started to laugh when she saw the exasperated look on her daughter’s face. “Alright. Don’t be angry. Just tell me the truth. Why are you suddenly asking me about this? Nuan Nuan, how long have you been my daughter? Do you think I did not know you well? Why don’t you tell me the truth?”

An Nuan hesitated briefly before she started to speak up about Lin Xiao Feng’s confession.

Shi Xi looked surprised when she heard that Lin Xiao Feng had finally told her daughter his feelings. She didn’t think that he would tell An Nuan sooner.

But then, Shi Xi also understood that her son-in-law would probably not say anything if it was not for her daughter.

An Nuan observed her mother’s reaction and understood that her mother had known about Lin Xiao Feng’s feelings a while ago.

“Mom, tell me the truth,” An Nuan said. “Have you always known?”

Shi Xi heaved a faint sigh. She looked her daughter in the eyes and smiled. “I don’t always know. But Nuan Nuan, you are right. Xiao Feng did say something to your dad and me on your wedding day.”

An Nuan looked at her mother expectantly and waited for her to continue.

“Your dad and I did not agree when Xiao Feng wanted to take over Pei Zhi Yi’s place. Marriage is something sacred and we cannot let you two treat it as a plaything.”

An Nuan also knew that she was being too willful at that time. It was just like what everyone else had said… She made her decision when she was angry with Pei Zhi Yi.

If she was to grab a stranger and end up with someone who would abuse her, then, she could not blame anyone else other than herself.

“Why?” An Nuan asked.

“Because he looked sincere when he told us that he would work hard to make our relationship work,” Shi Xi said. “He promised us that he will protect you and never let you be unhappy. Nuan Nuan, you were determined to get married on that day no matter what. Your Dad and I thought that, rather than letting you marry a stranger, you would be safer if you were with Xiao Feng.”

Shi Xi did not mention how Lin Xiao Feng went down to his knees when he asked them to let him marry their daughter.

She also did not mention how Lin Xiao Feng pledged to give everything he had if he hurt An Nuan while they were married.

His promises and his sincerity were what made them change their mind.
