Lin Xiao Feng grabbed An Nuan’s hand and pulled her closer. “Calm down. It’s not that bad.”

An Nuan looked at Lin Xiao Feng’s back and saw the red lines on his skin.

It looked painful but Lin Xiao Feng was still telling her that it was not that bad.

Her eyes and nose turned sour. An Nuan thought that Lin Xiao Feng was pitiful.

“You didn’t do anything wrong,” An Nuan said. “Why would Grandfather hit you?”

Her husband spent days at the shelter. He did not have time to eat and sleep. Later, he ate something unclean and ended up in the hospital. Who would have thought that someone would start a rumor about him?

Initially, it was a harmless photo. But someone was making it big, creating stories and spreading rumors.

“An Nuan,” Qi Zheng called. He flashed a smile when An Nuan looked at him. “Why don’t you help Xiao Feng with this ointment first? If the treatment is delayed, it won’t heal quickly.”

An Nuan looked at the bottle of ointment in Qi Zheng’s hand and took it.

“Then…” Qi Zheng looked at his friend. “I should leave both of you to talk. If you need anything, I will be outside.”

Without waiting for the couple to answer, Qi Zheng left the room and closed the door behind him.

Once Qi Zheng left, the atmosphere in the room turned quiet.

An Nuan pursed her lips as she waited for Lin Xiao Feng to say something. Seeing that he was silent for a long time made her grow frustrated. An Nuan wanted to leave and look for Grandfather Lin. But as her gaze fell on the injury on Lin Xiao Feng’s body, she decided that treating Lin Xiao Feng was the most important.

Her eyes started to water again as An Nuan applied the ointment to Lin Xiao Feng’s back.

His skin reddened.

She secretly hated Grandfather Lin for being too ruthless.

“It’s a misunderstanding.” Lin Xiao Feng heaved a sigh. “Grandfather thought that I was involved with another woman when I already had a wife. My grandfather’s temper is not that good. I have to take a couple of beats before I can explain.”

“It still isn’t fair to you.”

Lin Xiao Feng was silent for a long time.

He did not know how to console his wife.

His grandfather was his elder. He was long used to how strict his grandfather could be. An Nuan was his wife and this was the first time she had experienced something like this.

Lin Xiao Feng knew that An Nuan’s heart was aching for him. But other than assuring her that he would be fine, there was nothing else that he could do.

The couple stayed in the guest room for a long time before they came out again.

As they walked out, Lin Xiao Feng noticed his friend, Qi Zheng was waiting outside.

Qi Zheng sat on the sofa while playing with his phone. Hearing the noise, he looked up and raised a brow at his friend, silently asking about the situation.

Lin Xiao Feng replied to him with a nod, telling him that he had coaxed his wife for the time being.

“Lin Xiao Feng, you should go and check on Mom first,” An Nuan said. “I forgot to return the medicine bag to Qi Zheng.”

Lin Xiao Feng knew that his mother was worried. He did not think too much and went straight into the kitchen to look for his mother.

Once her husband had left, An Nuan returned to the guest room to get the bag that Qi Zheng had left earlier.

“Lin Xiao Feng…” An Nuan paused as she looked at Qi Zheng. “Is he alright?”

“He should be.” Qi Zheng nodded. “The injury would be better after a few days.” Qi Zheng guessed that An Nuan deliberately sent Lin Xiao Feng away to ask about the man’s injury.

“Lin Xiao Feng had food poisoning,” An Nuan said. “He was hospitalized for one day and was discharged a while ago.”

Qi Zheng frowned. He didn’t know anything about food poisoning. “I will take a look at him later.”

“This isn’t the first time that he was beaten,” An Nuan said. A faint crease appeared on her forehead. “I saw the scars on his body. Qi Zheng, previously, you were the one who treated him?”

“Yes,” Qi Zheng admitted.

When they were younger, it was some other doctor who would tend to Lin Xiao Feng’s injury. But after Qi Zheng became a doctor, he was the one who would look after his friend.

Actually, Grandfather Lin did not hit Lin Xiao Feng again after he graduated high school. Lin Xiao Feng was sensible and did not do anything to make his grandfather angry.
