Chapter 36: Stay

It did not take a long time for their meal to arrive.

Lin Xiao Feng ate his meal slowly while keeping his eyes on An Nuan. Noticing that An Nuan had eaten half of her dishes, Lin Xiao Feng lowered his cutleries and spoke, “How was your vacation?” He watched as An Nuan met his eyes. “Have you decided on what you want to do?”

“Hmm…” An Nuan swallowed the food in her mouth. “I thought about a lot of things during the time I was away.” She put down the cutlery in her hand and reached for the glass of water. “You heard what I told my parents yesterday. Lin Xiao Feng, I plan to stay in this country and work independently.”

“Making jewelry?”

“Mhm…” An Nuan nodded. “You might not know this, but I am quite good at designing jewelry. If it was not because I chose to return to Y City to get married, I would probably stay in F Country under a good mentor.”

Lin Xiao Feng hid his smile.

Of course, he knew a lot of things about An Nuan.

Lin Xiao Feng has been paying attention to An Nuan when she was overseas. He knew what An Nuan had done and what she had achieved. Back then, he had secretly procured a few of An Nuan’s work.

He thought that her designs looked great.

It was a pity that An Nuan had to give up a great opportunity to marry Pei Zhi Yi.

From the very beginning, Lin Xiao Feng had thought that Pei Zhi Yi was not suitable for An Nuan. He did not like that Pei Zhi Yi clipped An Nuan’s wings and refused to let her fly.

“You are not going to return to your mentor?” Lin Xiao Feng asked. He let out a cough. “I heard your brother mentioned it.”

An Nuan chuckled. “I would love to. But then, I don’t think my mentor would want to accept me again. He was quite mad when I told him I wanted to quit to get married.”

His heart sank when he saw the sad smile on An Nuan’s face. Lin Xiao Feng could see that An Nuan was sad.

“Just tell me if you need my help. I will do my best to help you.”

“Thank you.” An Nuan smiled, making Lin Xiao Feng’s heart skip a beat.

Lin Xiao Feng lowered his head to hide the expression on his face.

“Let’s not talk about this now,” An Nuan said. “Lin Xiao Feng, I wanted to thank you again for helping me.”

Lin Xiao Feng knew that An Nuan was talking about his decision to become the substitute groom.

“You told me that you have your reason for wanting to marry me,” An Nuan continued. “I wonder if there is anything that I can help you with?”

There was a long silence between them as Lin Xiao Feng considered An Nuan’s question.

“An Nuan.”

An Nuan instinctively sat up straight upon hearing Lin Xiao Feng calling her name. His tone of voice told her that whatever he was going to say next was something serious.

“Do you still want to go through with this marriage?” Lin Xiao Feng asked. “I understand that you might decide to marry just anyone because you were angry when your ex left. But now that you have taken a week off and composed your thoughts… I wonder if you have regretted your decision.”

An Nuan had a dazed look on her face as she was not expecting that Lin Xiao Feng was going to ask if she had regretted her decision.

In her opinion, they both had their reason to marry. They were both helping each other to get what they wanted. Therefore, An Nuan had not considered if she would regret it.

“I did not regret this,” An Nuan answered after a long silence between them. She met Lin Xiao Feng’s eyes and smiled. “I think it’s because of you.”

His heartbeat gradually accelerated.

“Lin Xiao Feng, we have known each other for a long time,” An Nuan said. “We might not be that close but I can consider you as a friend. I think… rather than marrying a total stranger, it is better to marry someone I know. We are friends. I think that we can work together to achieve what we want.”

Lin Xiao Feng held the cutlery in his hand tighter. “Then, are you planning to stay married to me?” He lowered his head again to hide her anxiety. “I understand if you want to change your mind.”

An Nuan stared at the man in front of her for a long time. “Lin Xiao Feng, do you have someone you like?”

“Why are you asking me this?” His brow furrowed deeper. Lin Xiao Feng wondered if An Nuan was trying to change their subject. “I told you before that I don’t have anyone. Otherwise, my elders would not try to arrange a blind date for me.”

When An Nuan was looking for a substitute, Lin Xiao Feng offered himself and told her that he wanted to marry her to stop his elders from worrying about his marriage.

“Well then.” An Nuan smiled. “Since we both had no one we liked, then, how about staying in this marriage? I don’t have anyone I like and I don’t plan on starting a new one at this moment.” A faint sigh escaped her lips. “I don’t want my elders to worry about me and you too have your reason to marry. Since we are both in the same situation, then, let’s continue to help each other. Lin Xiao Feng, let’s stay in this marriage.”

Lin Xiao Feng’s heart was jumping in joy.

He was ready to hear that An Nuan had changed her mind and planned to separate. How can he not be happy to hear that she wanted to stay in this marriage?

This would mean that An Nuan chose to move on from her ex.

Now that they are a husband and wife, he would have a lot of chances to win An Nuan’s heart.
