Chapter 52: Video Call

Fearing that An Nuan would encounter Sun Jiao again, Ren Di decided to head home. After all, she already got the dessert she wanted to buy.

Ren Di stayed at An Nuan’s place for a while to accompany her friend to chat and leave after having dinner with her family.

Once her friend left, An Nuan finally heaved a breath of relief. An Nuan was a bit worried that Ren Di might mention that she had run into Sun Jiao to her mother. She did not want her mother to worry. It was best if they did not know anything.

An Nuan returned to her room once she had sent her friend off.

She planned to take a shower when her phone on her table rang.

A look of surprise appeared on her face when An Nuan saw Lin Xiao Feng’s name. It was a video call.

The two of them might be a married couple. However, the number of times they would call each other was very limited.

An Nuan hesitated for a while, thinking of the reason Lin Xiao Feng was calling her. Then, she remembered running into Sun Ming Yuan at the mall earlier and wondered if the man had said anything.

Taking a deep breath, An Nuan swiped her finger against the screen, and soon, Lin Xiao Feng’s face appeared on her screen.

Her eyes widened in surprise.

An Nuan was not expecting to see Lin Xiao Feng’s face this close to her phone.

“An Nuan?” Lin Xiao Feng called.

“Lin Xiao Feng, why are you calling?” Subconsciously, An Nuan combed her hair with her fingers, hoping that she would not look too messy in front of this man. Then, she placed her phone on her desk so that she would not have to hold her phone all the time.

“Su Ming Yuan called me a while ago.”

An Nuan smiled. She had guessed right.

“He told me that you ran into trouble,” Lin Xiao Feng continued. “Are you alright?”

“I’m fine.” An Nuan chuckled. “Su Ming Yuan should have told you that he came over to help.”

“He did. Ah Yuan also mentioned that he did not know if that person had harmed you before he came.” Lin Xiao Feng tried to observe An Nuan’s expression to find out if she was hiding something from him.

“Well, other than saying a few things that made me angry, that person did not do anything to me.”

Even with An Nuan’s assurance, Lin Xiao Feng could not be at ease.

At this time, he wished that he could stay by An Nuan’s side more.

Lin Xiao Feng hoped An Nuan would consider coming with him to Capital City. This way, he would be able to keep his eyes on her.

Lin Xiao Feng recalled his conversation with Su Ming Yuan again. According to his friend, the person who caused trouble for An Nuan was a family member of her ex-fiance. Lin Xiao Feng was curious about that woman. However, he knew that An Nuan would not tell him anything even if he asked.

He wondered if he should ask his friend to help him investigate Pei Zhi Yi and An Nuan’s relationship with her ex’s family.

“You should not be bothered with trivial matters.” An Nuan said. “I’m sure that you have a lot of important things to do.”

Lin Xiao Feng was unhappy to hear An Nuan’s words.

His wife was more important than his work.

If something was to happen to An Nuan during the time he was not around, he would only feel guilty.

“An Nuan, you are just as important as my work,” Lin Xiao Feng said. “I promised your parents that I would look after you before we got married. I am not going to let them down.”

Her heart skipped a beat.

An Nuan suddenly felt like Lin Xiao Feng’s eyes were too piercing. It gave her a strange feeling.

She lowered her gaze to hide her awkwardness.

Her mind whirled to find something to change the topic.

“That’s right,” An Nuan spoke again after a brief silence between them. “Lin Xiao Feng, when are you coming back?”

There was a trace of surprise on Lin Xiao Feng’s face when he listened to An Nuan’s question. Then, a smile appeared on his face. “Do you want me to come back sooner?”

It would be good if An Nuan told him that she missed him. However, Lin Xiao Feng knew that it was impossible.

“That is not what I meant,” An Nuan quickly denied it. “I was just curious.” Her gaze fell on the sketches she made earlier that day. An Nuan started to gather them, planning to discard them later.

“I should go back the day after tomorrow. There are a few things that I have to settle.” Lin Xiao Feng thought about the slight renovation he had to make to prepare for An Nuan’s arrival.

Right now, she had not agreed to live with him in Capital City but Lin Xiao Feng wanted to prepare early.

Lin Xiao Feng then noticed An Nuan’s movement and saw the papers in her hand. His brow furrowed when he caught a glimpse of her drawings. “What are those papers?”

An Nuan froze when she heard Lin Xiao Feng’s question. She glanced at the papers in her hand and forced a smile. “Just some sketches. I thought I should come up with some ideas for jewelry. I did mention that I want to start working again, right?”

“Mhm…” Lin Xiao Feng nodded.

An Nuan heaved a faint sigh. “But after working on a few sketches, I realized that I wasn’t too happy with the result.”

“What’s wrong with them?” Lin Xiao Feng asked.

“Nothing. Just… They just don’t feel right,” An Nuan said. “I don’t know what I should work on.”

“Do you mind showing them to me?”

“No. They don’t look good. I was planning to discard them later,” she waved the paper in her hand before putting them aside.

Lin Xiao Feng pursed his lips. He always wanted to look at An Nuan’s work. But it seemed that he still wouldn’t get the chance. It will be a long time before An Nuan starts to be comfortable around him.
