Chapter 73: Be Reasonable

It has been a while since she visited her father’s office. An Nuan decided to sit down and chat with her father until she finished the tea and snacks that her father had prepared.

Looking at the sweet and savory pastries on the table made her greedy.

An Nuan planned to stay briefly but the pastries made her stay longer.

It took her a while to notice that Assistant Fu had been pacing back and forth outside her father’s office, realizing that her father was busy with his work.

Finally, An Nuan came up with an excuse before her father let her leave.

An Nuan gathered her purse and went out with Assistant Fu escorting her.

Once they arrived at the ground floor, An Nuan turned to Assistant Fu again and smiled. “I won’t disturb you with your work.”

Assistant Fu looked embarrassed. “Miss An, you should come again next time. I can see that President An is very happy that you stopped by.”

“Maybe next time when my father is not so busy,” An Nuan said. “I should leave now. You should go and look at my father.”

After exchanging a few words with Assistant Fu, An Nuan turned around to leave.

She took out her car keys from her purse and walked out of the building.

“Nuan Nuan?”

The familiar voice made her steps halt.

An Nuan held the car key in her hand tightly but did not turn around.

She did not have to turn around to see who was the person behind her.

This was the voice of the man who she had spent five years with. She spent her time loving this man and almost got married.

An Nuan could never forget Pei Zhi Yi turning his back on her even after she warned him that they would be over.

It has been a month since the last time she met Pei Zhi Yi. After the wedding, An Nuan blocked his phone number and did her best to avoid him.

She knew that he often hung around her residential area. However, each time she went out, An Nuan would use Lin Xiao Feng’s car.

Pei Zhi Yi was unfamiliar with Lin Xiao Feng’s car and never knew that he had missed her many times.

An Nuan knew that sooner or later, she would run into Pei Zhi Yi again. However, she had never expected to run into him at her father’s company.

What was he doing here?

Did he come here to look for her?

“Nuan Nuan, it’s really you.”

Her hand shook, causing the keys in her hand to rattle.

An Nuan’s instinct was telling her that she should leave. As the thought came to her mind, An Nuan picked up her pace and descended the staircase in a hurry.

Fortunately, she had taken out her keys earlier.

As long as she could get into the car, she would be able to escape.

“Don’t leave. Nuan Nuan, where are you going?”

Before An Nuan could press the key button to unlock the car, Pei Zhi Yi reached her side and grabbed her arm. His sudden move forced her to turn around and look at him.

Their gazes met for the first time after a long time.

The love and affection she had for this man had dissipated. The moment An Nuan saw Pei Zhi Yi’s face, all she could feel was disgust. She felt the urge to punch him in the face.

Her expression turned uglier. “Let me go.”

“No.” Pei Zhi Yi frowned. He looked into An Nuan’s eyes and could not understand the hate he saw in them. “Nuan Nuan, I have been looking for you for a long time. You blocked my number. No. You changed your number.”

Pei Zhi Yi remembered that he could no longer reach An Nuan’s phone even when he borrowed his friend’s number.

“Nuan Nuan, I want to talk to you.”

“I have nothing to say to you.” An Nuan shifted her gaze at Pei Zhi Yi’s hand that was still holding her arm. “Pei Zhi Yi, let me go. I’m asking you nicely.”

“I think there is a huge misunderstanding between us,” Pei Zhi Yi said. “Nuan Nuan, I have to explain. I didn’t mean to leave you on our wedding day. On that day, Jiao Jiao–”

“I don’t want to hear your excuse,” An Nuan interjected before Pei Zhi Yi could finish his words. “Pei Zhi Yi, I told you that the moment you step into that elevator, it is over between us.”

Pei Zhi Yi held An Nuan’s arm tighter. “No.” His eyes narrowed dangerously. “I have never agreed to that. An Nuan, we have been together for years. Are you saying that we are ending our relationship just like this? Stop that nonsense.” Pei Zhi Yi scoffed. “It has been a month. I thought that you were no longer angry by now.”

Her eyes widened.

An Nuan felt her blood boil in anger the moment she heard Pei Zhi Yi’s words.

What nonsense?

All this time, this man thought that she was avoiding him because she was angry?

An Nuan pulled her arm away from Pei Zhi Yi’s grip and took a step back.

“Pei Zhi Yi, you left me on our wedding day for some woman!” An Nuan reminded him.

“Some woman? Jiao Jiao is my sister.”

An Nuan laughed. “I actually hoped that you would return to the venue to marry me. But Pei Zhi Yi, until the end of the banquet, you did not show up. I don’t care if Jiao Jiao is your sister. I don’t care if Sun Jiao ran into trouble. Pei Zhi Yi, you could send anyone to look after your sister. Why did you have to leave?”

Pei Zhi Yi grabbed An Nuan’s arm again. He gripped her tightly so that she could not leave again.

“Jiao Jiao had an accident!” Pei Zhi Yi said. “Nuan Nuan, be reasonable. Do you still think that I should not leave?”
