Chapter 74: A Married Woman

There was a long silence between them.

Pei Zhi Yi stared into An Nuan’s eyes, hoping that she would understand his situation. He didn’t mean to leave on his wedding day. It was just that… Jiao Jiao got into an accident. As Sun Jiao’s older brother, Pei Zhi Yi had to leave and check on his younger sister.

“Do you think I’m lying?” Pei Zhi Yi asked. “Nuan Nuan…I’m not playing around. On that day, I received a phone call from Jiao Jiao. She had an accident. I went to check on her.”

Her laughter stopped abruptly as she heard Pei Zhi Yi’s words. An Nuan looked into the man’s eyes and scoffed. “Pei Zhi Yi, do you think I’m dumb?”

An Nuan was very familiar with Sun Jiao’s game.

After all, this was not the first time that Sun Jiao had done something similar.

Back then, when An Nuan was on a date with Pei Zhi Yi, Sun Jiao would call Pei Zhi Yi, claiming that it was an emergency.

In the beginning, An Nuan would let Pei Zhi Yi look for Sun Jiao as she was worried about that girl. However, An Nuan was quick to realize that the emergency was too frequent.

Sun Jiao’s emergency was nothing but a trivial matter.

She would call Pei Zhi Yi, claiming that it was a life and death situation when the truth was that Sun Jiao had a fight with her friends.

An Nuan had tried to talk to Pei Zhi Yi about this.

His overly concern about Sun Jiao was too much for her.

However, Pei Zhi Yi would tell her that he could not ignore Sun Jiao. This woman was someone he considered his younger sister. Then, Pei Zhi Yi would tell An Nuan that Sun Jiao was too pitiful as she had lost her parents at an early age.

“Sun Jiao’s situation… was it another life and death situation?”An Nuan sneered. “Pei Zhi Yi, the one who should be reasonable is you.” She pointed a finger to the man’s chest. “It was an important day of our lives. Even if it was an urgent matter, there are many people that Sun Jiao could look for. She could look for your parents but Sun Jiao chose to look for you instead. What does she mean?”

Pei Zhi Yi opened his mouth to answer. However, An Nuan had once again interjected him.

“And don’t lie and say that it was a life and death situation.” An Nuan peeled the man’s hand away from her arm again and tossed it with disgust. “I met Sun Jiao a few weeks ago. She seemed perfectly fine.” An Nuan laughed as she recalled meeting Sun Jiao at the mall. “Pei Zhi Yi, you have always viewed Sun Jiao as your younger sister but it seemed that she did not have the same opinion towards you.”

“Don’t speak nonsense.” Pei Zhi Yi did not look happy.

“Am I?” An Nuan scoffed.

“My relationship with Sun Jiao isn’t like that.”

An Nuan inhaled a deep breath. She was tired of talking to this man and all she wanted was to leave. “Pei Zhi Yi, it is over between us.”

“Nuan Nuan.” Pei Zhi Yi tried to grab An Nuan’s arm again to stop her from leaving. However, this time, An Nuan was quick enough to avoid him. “Please… You can’t end our relationship just like this. We have been together for years.”

An Nuan’s face turned cold.

Pei Zhi Yi also knew that they had been together for years. Even so, he decided that it was a good idea to leave her on their wedding day without any explanation.

“So what? Pei Zhi Yi, it is too late for us to be together.” An Nuan smiled. “In case you haven’t heard from your parents… I am a married woman.” The smile on her face stretched wider when she saw the surprised look on Pei Zhi Yi’s face. “I chose to marry someone else when you leave that day.”

“No. Nuan Nuan…” The anger in Pei Zhi Yi’s eyes disappeared and was replaced by panic. “That’s not true. You can’t marry someone else. Don’t say things just because you are angry.”

It wasn’t as if he had not heard this news.

It was already late when he returned from Sun Jiao’s side. Pei Zhi Yi looked at his phone and saw the missed calls from his family and friends.

Pei Zhi Yi called his mother and was told how the An family had driven away everyone from Pei Zhi Yi’s family.

His mother said that An Nuan was too furious when Pei Zhi Yi left. In her anger, An Nuan announced that she would marry just anyone. An Nuan found someone among her guests and proceeded with the wedding.

However, Mother Pei did not know if this news was true or false. After all, she did not get to witness the wedding with her eyes. In their opinion, An Nuan might be saying things to scare them off. She was angry when Pei Zhi Yi left and chose to punish him.

“Pei Zhi Yi, I am not joking with you,” An Nuan said. “I am married.” She raised a hand to show off the wedding ring she got from Lin Xiao Feng. “If you are not convinced with this evidence, then, I don’t mind showing you my marriage certificate.”
