Chapter 77: Deserve Someone Better

An Nuan glanced at her elder brother a few times. Her lips pursed into a thin line as she called the conversation between her elder brother and Pei Zhi Yi earlier.

It seemed that there were a few things that she knew nothing about regarding Pei Zhi Yi and her family’s business.

“What’s the matter?” An Jian spoke after a long silence between them. “You have been looking at me for a while. Nuan Nuan, is there something you wanted to ask?”

An Nuan continued to stay in silence.

“What is it?” An Jian chuckled. ” Just speak if you have something to say.”

“Elder Brother.” An Nuan spoke after a brief hesitation. “I heard you talking to Pei Zhi Yi earlier. What is this about a collaboration between An Group and SP Group? Why haven’t I heard anything about this?”

The smile on An Jian’s lips stayed. It seemed that he was expecting his younger sister to ask him questions about the collaboration between the two companies.

“Of course, you haven’t heard anything about this,” An Jian said. “Dad and I decided not to tell you about this.” He glanced at An Nuan again and smiled. “You are not involved in the company’s matter. What’s the use of telling you anything about the company?”

An Nuan did not look happy.

Such an important matter… Why wouldn’t his family say anything about it?

“But I am surprised,” An Jian continued. “I expect that Pei Zhi Yi would mention to you about the company.”

An Jian now wondered if Pei Zhi Yi’s relationship with his younger sister was as close as he had initially thought.

“Elder Brother…”

“Alright… I will tell you about it.” An Jian heaved a sigh. “Pei Zhi Yi’s parents came to meet us not too long after the two of you were engaged. They came to talk to us about a project that we have been eyeing for a while. An Group had the capital and SP Group had the expertise. Well… maybe not so much.”

“Not so much,” An Nuan repeated. “Elder Brother, what do you mean?”

“As compared to other companies that we could work with, SP Group was definitely lacking. An Group will have to spend a lot of money to help SP Group to provide what they need.”

“Then, why do you still want to work with them?” An Nuan already knew the reason her father chose to work with the Pei family. However, she still hoped that her elder brother would tell her a different reason.

“Pei Zhi Yi’s family gave us a reason.”

“What reason?”

“When SP Group prospers, you will live a good life with Pei Zhi Yi as well.”

It felt as if her heart was stabbed by something sharp. According to her elder brother’s words, her father agreed to work with the Pei family because of her.

Businesswise, it would make sense for An Group to collaborate with another company.

However, her family doted on her. Her father agreed to spend a lot of money for her happiness.

“Dad did not agree to sign the agreement quickly,” An Jian said. “He told Pei Zhi Yi’s family that An Group will only sign the agreement after the two of you are married. I’m glad that Dad made such a decision.”

He could not imagine continuing to work with SP Group when his younger sister was not married to Pei Zhi Yi. They won’t have much choice with the agreement signed.

An Nuan was silent for a long time after listening to her elder brother’s words. All sorts of thoughts went through her mind right at this moment. She wondered what else her family had kept secret from her.

“Elder Brother,” An Nuan called again after a while.

“You have something else you are curious about?” An Jian glanced at his younger sister again.

“I was just wondering.” There was a hint of hesitation in An Nuan’s voice. “You never really like Pei Zhi Yi, do you?”

An Jian did not answer his younger sister’s question immediately. He held the steering wheel tighter as he wondered if he should tell An Nuan the truth.

“You are right.”

An Jian finally answered just when An Nuan thought that her elder brother was not going to answer her question.

“Your sister-in-law and I never really liked Pei Zhi Yi,” An Jian confessed. “Nuan Nuan, I’ve seen you when you are with Pei Zhi Yi. He made you happy but, the number of times he made you unhappy was more than that. Most of all, I hated the way he would make it sound like it was your fault when he was coaxing you. Nuan Nuan, that person was toxic. Your sister-in-law and I always thought that you deserve someone better than him.

An Nuan could not hide her surprise upon hearing that her elder brother knew so much about her relationship with Pei Zhi Yi.

She thought that she had hidden everything well from her family. Unexpectedly, they still know a few things.

“Then, why didn’t you say anything while I was still with Pei Zhi Yi?”

“How can we say anything when you like that person very much?” An Jian turned to his younger sister and smiled. “I doubted that you would listen to us if we were to say anything.”

An Nuan lowered her gaze again.

Her Elder Brother was right.

She would not listen to them even if they had some opinion about Pei Zhi Yi.

Her long relationship with Pei Zhi Yi made her feel as if she had no other choice but to be with that man.

She thought that she could bear with him until he left her on their wedding day.

“Alright, we are here.”

An Jian’s voice made An Nuan look up. She then realized that the car was parked in front of their house.

An Nuan quickly alighted from the car when she remembered that her elder brother still had an important meeting at work.

“Thank you for today,” An Nuan said. A thought came to her mind, making her look at her elder brother again. “Elder Brother.” She took out the car key from her pocket. “This is Xiao Feng’s car key. Can you help me to bring back the car for me?”

An Jian nodded. “I’ll ask my assistant to deliver his car back later.”

After saying a few more words, An Nuan finally leaves.

“Young Miss,” the helper stopped An Nuan as soon as she walked in. “There’s a parcel for you.”
