Chapter 92: A Fever

On their way to the restaurant, An Nuan took out her phone to text Ren Di.

Her friend left after saying a few words and An Nuan was worried.

“Nuan Nuan, sorry for leaving suddenly,” Ren Di texted back. “I just thought that you and your husband might need some time alone. Lin Xiao Feng seemed angry. Nuan Nuan, you have to talk to him.”

An Nuan sent a few question marks to her friend.

She glanced at Lin Xiao Feng and tried to read his emotions.

The man was concentrating on his driving. An Nuan did not think that Lin Xiao Feng seemed angry.

“It might be your imagination. He’s not angry.”

“Really? Then, why did he keep frowning?”

An Nuan glanced at Lin Xiao Feng and thought that this man seemed to be in a good mood. The frown that Ren Di mentioned was nowhere to be seen.

An Nuan figured that Ren Di was imagining things.

“Anyway, the long silence is too awkward.” Ren Di sent another text. “I did not lie about a meeting with Yan Wei. She was indeed worried. I’m on my way to see her. I’ll come back to the hotel after this. Nuan Nuan, will you be alright?”

“I’m alright. I’m going to have dinner with Lin Xiao Feng before he sends me back to the hotel.”

An Nuan put down her phone after telling Ren Di that she would meet her at the hotel.

Before long, Lin Xiao Feng finally pulled his car over in front of a commercial building.

“We’re here.” Lin Xiao Feng glanced at the restaurant before turning to An Nuan. “The restaurant specializes in Chinese cuisine. However, their steaks are pretty decent too. You can see which one you like.”

Since An Nuan could not decide on what she wanted to eat, Lin Xiao Feng decided to take her to a restaurant that had a bit of everything.

“That sounds good.” An Nuan could feel her stomach letting out a small grumble. “Let’s go. I’m quite starving.”

The couple alighted from the car and headed to the restaurant together.

Lin Xiao Feng’s eyes fell on An Nuan’s hand.

He remembered how she was holding his arm just because Secretary Shi was around.

Lin Xiao Feng wondered when they were a little closer without trying to put on an act in front of someone else.

The staff greeted them at the door and ushered them to their seats.

An Nuan looked at the menu and chose a few dishes. Once the server was gone, An Nuan raised her head to look at Lin Xiao Feng again. Now that they were facing each other, An Nuan realized that Lin Xiao Feng’s face was a bit red.

She saw him with the same look when Lin Xiao Feng appeared at the police station. She thought that Lin Xiao Feng’s face was red from running too fast to reach the police station.

Then, the redness on his face should disappear by now.

“You…” Lin Xiao Feng coughed. He noticed that An Nuan had been watching him.

Although he was glad that An Nuan was paying attention to him, the way his wife was looking at him was a little strange.

An Nuan did not answer.

Instead, she stood up suddenly before walking over to Lin Xiao Feng’s side.

Before Lin Xiao Feng could say a word, An Nuan placed a hand on his forehead, startling him.

“Lin Xiao Feng!” An Nuan retracted her hand and inhaled a sharp breath. “You had a fever?”

His body stiffened. Lin Xiao Feng had not expected that An Nuan would notice. “I–”

An Nuan remembered Lin Xiao Feng’s hoarse voice when she talked to him a few days ago. Last time, Lin Xiao Feng told her that it was a slight sore throat. It seemed that his illness had worsened.

“I’m fine.” Lin Xiao Feng heaved a sigh when he saw An Nuan standing still while staring at him with worry. “SIt down first.”

An Nuan hesitated briefly before sitting down again. “Have you had your medicine?”

Lin Xiao Feng flashed a helpless smile. “I have to eat something before I have my medicine, right?”

An Nuan knew that Lin Xiao Feng was right. She could not understand why she would still feel frustrated.

This man was attending a meeting before he found her. An Nuan was distressed at the thought of Lin Xiao Feng working hard even when he was not feeling well.

Suddenly, An Nuan recalled that her mother-in-law had once said that Lin Xiao Feng lived in Capital City alone. He did not have anyone to look for him. Perhaps, that was the reason his illness worsened.

“You should go back home and rest after this,” An Nuan said. “The hotel is not too far from here. I can go back on my own.”

“No.” Lin Xiao Feng quickly rejected An Nuan’s suggestion. “Whatever it is, I will send you back before going back.”

“You…”

“An Nuan, I can’t let you go back on your own,” Lin Xiao Feng interrupted. “You are not very familiar with Capital City.”

“I am not a child.” An Nuan heaved helplessly, thinking that Lin Xiao Feng was worrying too much.

“You are my wife. We are legally married,” Lin Xiao Feng pointed out. “Now that you are in Capital City, your safety is my responsibility. If something happened to you, I wouldn’t feel at ease.”

An Nuan stared at Lin Xiao Feng for a brief second.

She thought that Lin Xiao Feng was too stubborn.

She was not a child but this man was worrying that she might get lost.

In the end, An Nuan figured that it was better not to argue with a sick person. It would be troublesome if his sickness worsened.

“Alright then.” An Nuan reached for her glass of water and took a sip. “Let’s eat first. But Lin Xiao Feng, you have to head back to your place after sending me back.”

She had tested his temperature against her palm earlier and thought that his forehead was not that hot.

It might be a mild fever.

“Mhm…” Lin Xiao Feng nodded.

He could not hide his smile upon seeing the concerned look on An Nuan’s face.

The fever was indeed uncomfortable but it was worth it.
