Chapter 96: Her Mother’s Call

Lin Xiao Feng’s words made An Nuan pause.

She had never thought of considering this house as her home. But then, Lin Xiao Feng’s words made sense.

They are a married couple. For now, the two of them were living separately. But in the future, this arrangement would be inappropriate. Marriage is not like playing house.

The last time An Nuan chatted with Lin Xiao Feng about their marriage, she had told him that she only wanted to get away from Pei Zhi Yi. As for him, he needed her to become his wife.

An Nuan assumed that Lin Xiao Feng was probably talking about helping him with his career, which was what she had promised to Grandfather Lin.

Living apart in two different cities was not going to help Lin Xiao Feng.

Thinking of living under the same roof with this man made her feel awkward.

She lowered her gaze to avoid Lin Xiao Feng’s eyes. Her gaze fell on the two high chairs in the kitchen. She suddenly thought that the arrangement was meant for a couple living together.

It made her curious about what this man had prepared.

An Nuan was about to ask Lin Xiao Feng to give her a tour around the house when the ringtones from her phone broke the silence between them.

She took out her phone that her mother was requesting a video call.

“I should pick up this phone call,” An Nuan said. “It’s my mother.”

“Hmm… go ahead.” Lin Xiao Feng nodded.

He let out a breath of relief, feeling that the phone call came at the right time. The atmosphere between him and An Nuan was turning awkward. Therefore, Lin Xiao Feng was glad that his mother-in-law had decided to call.

An Nuan swiped her finger on the screen and saw her mother’s face on the screen.

“Nuan Nuan, are you alright?” Shi Xi asked as soon as the phone call was connected.

An Nuan tried to smile when she noticed the trace of worry on her mother’s expression. “Mom, I’m fine. Why are you asking me that?”

“Really fine?” Shi Xi gave her daughter a lookover. “I heard that you are at the police station. Nuan Nuan, what was that about?”

An Nuan was surprised.

She had not told her mother about her trip to the police station and was sure that Ren Di would not mention a word about it to her mother.

Subconsciously, An Nuan shifted her gaze to Lin Xiao Feng, wondering if he had told her mother about it.

“It was not me,” Lin Xiao Feng said.

An Nuan was having a video call with her mother. Therefore, Lin Xiao Feng could hear their conversation well.

“Nuan Nuan?” Shi Xi called. “Who was that?” Her brow furrowed upon recognizing a man’s voice on her daughter’s side. “Who are you talking to?”

Worried about her daughter, Shi Xi began to look at An Nuan’s surroundings and saw the kitchen cabinet behind her daughter.

“Mom, I’m with Lin Xiao Feng,” An Nuan said. She waved a hand to Lin Xiao Feng, calling him to come closer.

“Xiao Feng?” Mother An was surprised. She knew that her daughter was supposed to attend an event with her best friend, Ren Di.

“Hello, Mom.” Lin Xiao Feng smiled as he stood next to An Nuan.

“It’s really you.” Shi Xi was finally at ease upon seeing that her daughter and Lin Xiao Feng were together. “Nuan Nuan, you are with Xiao Feng? I thought that you were attending an event with Ren Di?”

“Well, it’s a long story.” An Nuan touched the tip of her nose. She did not know how she should explain to her mother about that episode with Sun Jiao.

“An Nuan,” Lin Xiao Feng called. He then pointed his finger to the living room when An Nuan looked at him. “I’ll wait for you in the living room. You should talk to your mother first.”

“Mmm…” An Nuan flashed a grateful smile to Lin Xiao Feng. She watched as the man left the kitchen before turning to her mother again. “Mom, who told you that I was at the police station?”

“How do I know this?” Shi Xi’s mood changed again when she recalled how she got the news about her daughter’s visit to the police station. “It was Pei Zhi Yi’s mother. She called earlier and told me that something happened to you and Sun Jiao.”

“Mom, you still contacted his mother?” An Nuan did not look too happy.

She had broken up with Pei Zhi Yi and did not want any relationship with that man. Hearing that her mother was still in touch with Pei Zhi Yi’s mother made her feel uncomfortable.

“I didn’t,” Shi Xi answered quickly. “Who wants to keep in touch with that person? Nuan Nuan, do you think your mother is crazy?” Shi Xi inhaled a deep breath to calm down. “His mother came to our residential area just now. I was returning home from an event with your father when Mrs. Pei stopped our car at the entrance.”

An Nuan began to wonder if Pei Zhi Yi’s family was crazy.

Why do they like to hang around her residential gate so much?

“Mrs. Pei told me that something happened and you and Sun Jiao were taken to the police station. Nuan Nuan, what happened?”

An Nuan sighed when she figured out what happened.

It was probably Sun Jiao who called Mrs.Pei from the police station. Then, Mrs. Pei went to look for her mother.

“Mom, it’s nothing,” An Nuan said. “I had a bit of an argument with Sun Jiao at the event and was taken to the police station.” She noticed the anxious look on her mother’s face. “But mom, you don’t have to worry. Lin Xiao Feng came to get me. Nothing happened. Lin Xiao Feng is with me.”

Shi Xi saw Lin Xiao Feng on her daughter’s screen a while ago and knew that her daughter was not lying to make her feel better.
