Chapter 49: 49 – The Middle Room
After drinking some more water…
I went back inside the dungeon and rested by the door.
By now, I had kind of confirmed that the hallway was a safe zone.
And so…
Taking out a few dirty clothes from my spatial storage, I used them as a pillow.
I laid down the cape Old Man Rey gave me and used it as something to lie on.
And with that…
“Finally, I can rest.”
I closed my eyes, trying to fall asleep.
-Meep!
Pyro was going to keep an eye out and wake me up in case a monster appeared.
“Thank you.”
I told him while I had my eyes closed.
And happily…
-Meep!
Pyro replied, saying that I should rest now.
And after that…
“…”
I fell asleep not long after.
*****
“Huh?”
A stupid noise came out of my mouth as I slowly opened my eyes.
I was so tired that I didn’t even register that I had fallen asleep!
It just felt like my whole body shut down and started back up again right now.
Anyway…
-Meep!
Pyro greeted me.
He was so happy to see me awake.
And looking at him, he looked so tired…

A frown appeared on my face seeing him like that.
‘Looks like I was out for a long time.’
I thought.
“Sorry for leaving you on guard. It must’ve been really lonely, huh?”
I said to Pyro, patting his head.
-Meep…
Pyro said it was fine, but I still felt guilty.
‘He’s still just a kid.’
“Hup.”
I sat up and gently took hold of Pyro.
“Here.”
Then I started feeding my mana to Pyro.
His complexion improved immediately after doing so.
And after that…
“You can rest now. Good job.”
I said that to Pyro.
-Meep.
Pyro proudly replied, and then he closed his eyes.
And not long after…
-…
He fell asleep.
I felt really bad that he had to endure this situation because he’s stuck with me.
A bitter smile spread across my face.
And slowly…
Fwip—
I put Pyro inside the spatial bag.
“I should really do something for Pyro once I get out of this place.”
I mumbled to myself.
Pyro had stayed up for hours, on his own, without any company, just to guard me.
And because of him, I also got stronger.
That’s why…
“Let’s get this dungeon over with already so we can go home.”
*****
Going back to the end of the hallway, where the three doors were…
I looked at the left room again.
Inside, I saw monster wolves again. There were only a few of them this time.
Only five of them.
They were curiously looking at the mountain of monster wolf corpses.
‘So new monsters do still spawn in dungeons after some time, just like in the game.’
I thought to myself.
I don’t know the logic behind it, nor do I care at the moment.
It’s not gonna help me out, anyway.
If anything…
‘I should be glad that I won’t have to worry about running out of monster wolf meat.’
And so…
Creak—
I silently walked into the room.
And before the monster wolves could notice me…
“[Bang]- [Bang]- [Bang]—”
Thu—
I shot three of them dead.
-Graa?! -Awoou?!
The remaining two were surprised by the sudden deaths of their pack members.
And they looked in my direction.
“Stay here for a while…”
I placed the spatial bag on the floor so that Pyro could sleep comfortably.
And when I looked back up again…
-GRAAAW!!! -GRRRRRR!!!
I saw the two wolves running at me.
Fwip-
I immediately took out my dagger.
Bam-
One of the wolves leaped in the air, trying to bite my face…
-GRAAAAAH!!!
While the other one didn’t, it was trying to bite off my legs.
As a response…
Swoosh—
I rotated my body backward to the left!
Fwish-
Which allowed me to dodge the one in the air!
And using my spinning momentum…
Phuck—!
-GRAA!?
I stabbed the side of the wolf!
Then, while my dagger was still lodged in its body…
SLASH—
I slashed it downward!
-AROOOO!!!
It opened the stomach of the wolf in the air and splashed blood on me, but I didn’t care.
I continued my slash downward…
BAM!
And my closed fist hit the other wolf that was attacking me from below!
-GARGH?!
It was hit on top of its head, stunning it.
And while it was like that…
“Die.”
I immediately flipped the dagger in my hand…
Phuck!
And stabbed it in the head where I had hit it!
And just like that…
Thud—
I killed the two of them, their bodies falling to the ground at the same time.
“I’m getting used to this.”
I mumbled, looking at the monster wolves’ dead bodies.
Anyway, I added their bodies along with the other three to the mountain of monster wolves’ corpses.
And after that…
“I’m back.”
I picked up the spatial bag.
Creak—
Thud-
And left the room.

Now that Raye was back at the end of the hallway…
He looked inside the middle room where the Kobolds were.
And there, he counted how many Kobolds were inside.
‘There are eight of them.’
All of them were wearing light leather armor, and they each had their respective weapons.
Kobolds are small, scaly humanoids with sharp claws and glowing eyes. Their wiry frames and whip-like tails gave them a distinctly reptilian appearance.
They moved with a skittish, cunning energy, always alert to their surroundings.
They are classified as E- rank monsters.
But if they got their hands on proper equipment and weapons, their rank could increase up to D- rank!
Kobolds are very smart monsters, that’s why.
And although physically weak, they’re stronger than the monster wolves and goblins, the ones that Raye had fought in the past.
Also, they have strong magic resistance!
That’s why Raye doesn’t want to fight them!
“This’ll be annoying.”
Raye mumbled to himself.
He could only use low-rank spells.
And now that he’s in a situation where he can’t rely on those…
“Fuck it.”
He entered the middle room with a dagger in his right hand.
Tap—
As soon as Raye entered the room…
-Eeeeerk!
-Chrrrrk?
-Hisss…?
The Kobolds immediately noticed his presence.
“I can’t even do a surprise attack, fuck this.”
Raye cursed, then he put his spatial bag down near the door.
Luckily, because of their intelligence, the Kobolds stayed vigilant and didn’t attack immediately.
Instead…
-Hissss—
-Chrrk—
They slowly surrounded Raye.
“…”
Seeing this, Raye frowned.
Fortunately, the Kobolds only had close-range weapons, so they couldn’t attack him from a distance.
Looking at the Kobolds…
“[Lit up]”
Raye muttered.
Swaaa—
And his left hand was engulfed with fire!
And after that…
Bam!
He kicked off the ground and rushed at the Kobold in the middle!
-Chrrck?!
Upon nearing the Kobold…
Fwish—
Raye quickly slashed horizontally at it with his dagger!
Clang!
It was blocked; the Kobold was able to immediately raise his small sword and defend himself.
Though, Raye had already expected that.
So, with his left hand clenched into a fist and covered in fire…
Bam!
Raye punched out and hit the Kobold in the jaw!
-Ergh?!
It made the Kobold stumble back, but because Raye lacked strength, he wasn’t able to knock it out!
But following that…
“Gurgh…!”
Raye jumped forward and put all of his weight into the Kobold!
Thud—
-Chrk!
“Argh!”
They fell to the ground.
And with Raye on top of the Kobold…
Fwish—
He heavily brought the dagger down with all of his might.
Phuck!
And stabbed the Kobold straight in its left eye!
-EEEEK!!!
And to finish it off…
SLASH!
Raye dragged his dagger down while it was still stabbed in!
Opening a big wound on the Kobold’s face…
-…
And killing it.
“You’re too loud.”
Raye mumbled, retrieving his dagger.
But he had no time to rest.
Swoosh—
“?!”
He caught a glance at his side and saw an axe nearing his face!
“Shit!”
Fwish-
Raye immediately ducked his head and narrowly avoided the attack.
Bam-
And then he kicked off and did a donkey roll to get away from the Kobold!
Which was a good move because the other Kobolds were coming at him from behind too!
They were just a moment too late to kill Raye!
“Bunch of little shits.”
Raye grumbled as he stood up.
On the other hand, the Kobolds smirked in pleasure.
After watching Raye fight that one Kobold earlier, the other Kobolds realized something…
They were stronger than Raye!
So if they just jumped on him…
They were sure to win!
Raye knew this as well…
But he already thought of a plan for this.
At least, it would allow him to fight the Kobolds one at a time!
So without further ado…
“Huff!”
Raye ran at the right corner of the room!
And there…
“Come at me, fuckers.”
He stood and provoked them.
Raye thought that by standing in a corner, he wouldn’t have a Kobold sneak an attack behind him.
And he could see all of his enemies as well.
Though he wouldn’t have an escape…
This was the best thing he could do at the moment.
‘I’m really glad they don’t have a long-range weapon.’
Raye thought…
But he soon frowned after seeing the Kobolds pick up stones.
“Oh, for fuck’s sake.”
Raye cursed.
