Chapter 455: Chapter 455: Historical Relic (End)
The abyssal demigod, though momentarily staggered by Bea’s desperate attempt, was far from defeated.
Its massive form loomed over the battlefield, its dark energy surging once more as it began to recover from the disruption. The City Lord, Ishvaran, and his two contracts—the dragon and the armoured giant—were holding the line, but it was clear they couldn’t keep this up forever. The dragon’s flames were growing weaker, and the armoured giant, though still fighting, was visibly struggling under the weight of its injuries.
Fortunately, due to Bea, it had given the City Lord a chance to wound the abyssal severely enough to relieve their pressure. Now the abyssal demigod was absorbing more of its underlings, these ones not controlled by Bea, in order to heal itself.
Kain watched the scene unfold, his mind racing. The relic core had been fully saturated with Nadia’s spiritual power not long ago, allowing them to completely control it, use all of its abilities, and leave once they’ve finished the clearing conditions of the relic.
They assumed the clearing condition was ensuring Ishvaran’s survival, but if the high-level battle above is lost, and the city falls, even in spite of Nadia’s control of the relic they won’t be able to leave here. They needed a solution.
Kain could feel Bea’s exhaustion, her frustration, and her determination to continue fighting, but he still recalled her back into his star space. She had done everything she could, and now it was his turn to act.
“We need to get out of here,” Kain muttered, his voice low but urgent. “But we can’t just leave the City Lord and the others to deal with that thing. If the demigod isn’t stopped, it’ll destroy the city—and maybe even break out of the relic.”
Kain’s eyes scanned the battlefield, searching for an answer. And then looked at Nadia who had the relic core not far away. Until the clearing condition was completed, they couldn’t leave, but the relic core still had some uses.
Inspired by the disruption Bea caused to the demigod’s absorption of abyssal energy, Kain approached Nadia with his plan.
Explaining his idea, she reluctantly agreed. However,…
“It’s hard to know if the demigod will be caught off guard again. The intelligence of high-level abyssal is no worse, and may even be superior, than the average human’s. This plan may backfire.” Kain, deep down, also agreed with Nadia’s assessment, but they had no choice! If they sat around and did nothing then they might as well wait for death.
Nadia knew this too.
So she turned her attention to the relic core and focused her energy, channelling it into the core to activate its teleportation function. But instead of using it to leave the relic, which wasn’t an option for them, she manipulated the energy to create a temporary rift—a small, unstable portal that would appear directly in front of the demigod.
The plan was simple but dangerous. They hoped that the rift would disrupt the demigod’s energy, creating a momentary weakness that Ishvaran and his contracts could exploit. But maintaining the rift would require all of Nadia’s focus, leaving her vulnerable. Moreover, considering the damage to her soul from the lost contract, she wouldn’t even be able to cause the distortion in the space for long. She would only have one shot at this.
“Ready?” Kain asked, though he already knew the answer.
Nadia nodded solemnly before taking a deep breath and activating the relic core. A faint glow spread from the core, and a small, shimmering rift appeared in the air in front of the demigod. The rift was unstable, its edges flickering and sparking as it struggled to maintain its form. But it was enough.
The demigod appeared slightly surprised as the rift disrupted its energy, but definitely much more prepared than the previous time Bea interfered.
The main thing to catch it off guard was that Kain and Nadia had timed the formation of the portal to be when it was just about to land a heavy attack on the City Lord’s dragon, so the abyssal demigod couldn’t help but be a little complacent internally—his guards lowered.
But now its good opportunity had been ruined and it couldn’t resist emitting a roar of frustration and anger.
Moreover, the instability of the space made the mist from the absorbed abyssal unable to reach it.
Ishvaran, once again sensing the opportunity, didn’t hesitate and launched a devastating combined assault with its contracts was devastating. A second sun high up in the sky seemed to be rapidly born and then collapse and fall right on the head of the abyssal.
Unfortunately, this attack seemed to instantly drain and age the City Lord quite a bit, while his armoured giant contract immediately collapsed and was collected by himself into his star space. The dragon also seemed to barely maintain its consciousness, but it still put on a brave face. After all, they were still surrounded by enemies, the death of the abyssal demigod was not yet confirmed, and in the weakened state of itself and its master, the numerous 8-star level abyssal on the opposite side could probably take them down if surrounded.
Gradually the smoke and debris concealing the abyssal demigod faded and they could see its situation. The demigod’s form began to unravel, its dark energy dissipating into the air as it let out a final, ear-splitting roar. Its massive body collapsed, the ground shaking as it hit the earth. The battlefield fell silent, the oppressive aura of the demigod fading away.
Kain let out a breath he didn’t realize he’d been holding. It was over. The demigod was defeated.
But there was no time to celebrate, a sudden presence made Kain freeze. He turned to see City Lord Ishvaran teleporting above them, his expression a mix of gratitude and suspicion. His dragon behind him, although battered Kain was still certain that they could destroy them all with a thought.
“You,” Ishvaran said, his voice calm but commanding. “who are you, and where did you come from?”
Kain’s heart raced from the intimidating aura that pressed down on him.
Kain and the others didn’t respond. Instead, Nadia tightened her grip on the relic core and the figures of all of them began to fade. Ishvaran reached out, his hand glowing with spiritual energy, but he was too late.
The portal closed just as Ishvaran’s hand passed through the space where Kain and Bea had been standing. The City Lord stared at the empty air, his expression unreadable. He was grateful for their help, but their sudden disappearance only deepened his suspicions. If they were allies, that was fine.
But if they were secretly hostile or spies… he would find them, and he would destroy them. After all, he couldn’t risk the biggest secret of their city being leaked.
