Chapter 108: The Endless Sky
Ahcehera and Carmela secretly left Ziomera under the cover of night, boarding a private starship that took them far from the planet’s watchful eyes.
The Morningstar royal family would soon discover Carmela’s departure, but by then, it would already be too late to stop her.
The moment they entered hyperspace, Carmela let out a breath she hadn’t realized she was holding. For the first time in her life, she was truly free.
She gazed out of the window, watching the stars streak past like silver rivers in the endless sky.
The vastness of space stretched beyond her view, limitless and untamed. It was breathtaking.
Ahcehera, sitting across from her, sipped from a cup of warm tea. She had remained quiet throughout the journey, allowing Carmela the space to process everything.
Finally, after what felt like hours of silence, Carmela spoke.
“Do you believe in fate?” Her voice was barely above a whisper.
Ahcehera raised a brow. “I believe in choices. Fate is just an excuse people use to justify their actions.”
Carmela chuckled softly. “Then perhaps I was foolish.”
Ahcehera tilted her head. “Foolish? About what?”
Carmela leaned back against her seat, her fingers tracing the golden embroidery on her sleeves. “About how I met Abrixien… and how I fell in love with him.”
Ahcehera remained silent, waiting for her to continue.
Carmela sighed. “You probably already know that I wasn’t meant to leave Ziomera. My entire life, I was raised to follow rules, and to walk the path chosen for me. But one day, I just… left.”
Ahcehera listened intently as Carmela began to recall the past.
“It was during a technology summit on Aesir-9, one of the most advanced planets in the interstellar federation. I had disguised myself as a scholar to attend the summit. I wanted to see the latest advancements, to understand how the universe was evolving beyond Ziomera’s outdated traditions.”
She smiled wistfully. “And that’s when I met him, Abrixien Bloodstone.”
Ahcehera’s eyes darkened slightly at the mention of her brother’s name. “Go on.”
Carmela let out a soft laugh. “At first, I hated him.”
Ahcehera blinked. “Hated him?”
Carmela nodded. “We met at a conference about quantum energy convergence. He was giving a lecture, and I, being the prideful scholar I pretended to be, challenged his theories.”
Ahcehera could almost picture the scene, her arrogant but brilliant brother being challenged by an equally stubborn princess in disguise.
“He found me annoying,” Carmela admitted with a chuckle.
“We argued for nearly an hour in front of hundreds of scholars. But instead of dismissing me, he actually listened. He debated with me. He treated me like an equal, not like some delicate princess or some woman who should stay silent.”
A soft sigh escaped her lips. “That was the first time I realized how different he was.”
Ahcehera smirked. “He must have been amused.”
Carmela nodded. “He was. But he was also intrigued. After that, we kept running into each other, sometimes by accident, sometimes because I sought him out.”
She shook her head at herself. “I wanted to prove I was right, but every time we debated, I ended up learning something new.”
Ahcehera listened in silence, her mind flashing back to her brother’s past. Abrixien Bloodstone was a genius, but he had always been distant.

He had never shown much interest in romance or attachments. Yet, here was Carmela, someone who had managed to reach him in a way no one else had.
Carmela continued, her voice laced with quiet sorrow.
“Then came the expedition to Planet Oryn. Abrixien was part of a research team that studied the planet’s energy field. I… followed him there.”
Ahcehera raised a brow. “You followed him?”
Carmela laughed. “I told you, I was foolish. I kept telling myself that I was only interested in his research, and that I admired his intellect. But the truth was, I just wanted to be near him.”
Her gaze softened as memories flooded her mind.
“Oryn was a dangerous place, filled with unstable energy pockets. One night, there was an explosion in one of the research stations. Everyone thought it was an accident, but Abrixien knew it was sabotage. He stayed behind to investigate, even when it put his life at risk.”
Ahcehera clenched her jaw. “That sounds like him.”
Carmela nodded. “I should have left, but I didn’t. I stayed. And that’s when I saved his life.”
Ahcehera’s expression turned serious. “What happened?”
Carmela took a deep breath. “The ones responsible for the sabotage came after him. They wanted him dead. I intercepted their attack… and in doing so, I revealed who I really was.”
Ahcehera’s eyes widened. “You used your power?”
Carmela nodded. “I had no choice. At that moment, I thought he would look at me with fear. That he would see me as a monster.”
“But he didn’t.”
Carmela smiled. “No. He looked at me with understanding. And for the first time, I saw something in his eyes that I had never seen before.”
Ahcehera tilted her head. “What?”
“Concern.” Carmela’s voice trembled slightly. “Not just for himself, but for me.”
Ahcehera remained quiet.
Carmela chuckled bitterly. “But I was a fool. I thought I was the only one who had fallen. I thought I was the only one in love.”
Ahcehera’s voice softened. “You were wrong, weren’t you?”
Carmela nodded. “I was. I didn’t realize it until much later, until it was too late. After the mission on Oryn and the chaos caused by the pirates, I returned to Ziomera. My engagement to Waynevir was still in place, and Abrixien thought I had escaped successfully.”
A tear slipped down her cheek. “But the truth was… I was powerless. I couldn’t defy my family. Not back then.”
Ahcehera studied her carefully. “And now?”
Carmela met her gaze, determination burning in her eyes. “Now, I’ve made my choice. I’ve given up everything, my title, my family, my home, just to see him again.”
Ahcehera sighed. “Then let’s make sure you don’t regret it.”
Carmela nodded, wiping away her tears. She turned her gaze back to the endless sky, where the stars continued their silent journey across the cosmos.
For the first time in years, she was no longer looking for an escape.
She was looking for a future.
