Chapter 110: Under the Moonlight
When it was late at night, Carmela couldn’t sleep.
The silence of the palace was overwhelming, a stark contrast to the bustling energy of Ziomera, where the whispers of the wind carried prayers to the patron saint, and the bells chimed softly in the distance.
Here, only the faint rustling of the curtains and the rhythmic ticking of the old mechanical clock reminded her that time was still moving.
Yet, despite her exhaustion, sleep refused to claim her.
She sighed, running her fingers through her long golden hair, before finally deciding to get some fresh air.
With quiet steps, she approached the large window of her chamber and unlatched it. A soft breeze drifted in, carrying the delicate scent of the imperial gardens below.
Without hesitation, she leaped gracefully from the window, her feet landing lightly on the soft grass.
The palace grounds stretched before her, bathed in the silver glow of the moonlight. The air was crisp, filled with the scent of night-blooming flowers.
She wandered toward the open garden, where petals swayed gently in the cool night breeze.
The sea of blossoms shimmered under the celestial glow, creating an otherworldly beauty that made her pause.
She lifted her gaze to the stars above, her heart stirring as she traced familiar constellations.
It had been years since she last stood under a sky like this, simply looking up.
The universe had always felt endless, full of unknown possibilities, but tonight… tonight, the vastness of it all seemed to press against her chest, reminding her of everything she had lost and everything she had yet to decide.
And then, she felt it.
A presence.
Familiar. Overwhelming.
A silent force that sent a shiver down her spine, awakening something buried deep within her heart.
She turned around swiftly, and her breath caught.
There, standing amidst the flowers, was the man she had longed to see the most.
Abrixien.
His figure was tall, his silhouette defined by the soft glow of the moon. His hair shimmered under the celestial light, his dark cloak billowing slightly in the breeze.
His eyes, piercing and golden, locked onto hers, filled with emotions she couldn’t yet decipher.
For a moment, she forgot how to breathe.
He was here. Right in front of her.
“Carmela…” His voice was deep and steady, yet it carried an unmistakable weight, as if he had waited a lifetime just to say her name again.
She swallowed hard. “You’re… here.”
A faint smile tugged at his lips. “Of course I am. Did you think I wouldn’t come for you?”
Carmela’s heart pounded violently against her ribcage. “I…” she started, but the words caught in her throat.
He took a slow step toward her, his golden eyes never leaving hers. “I searched for you,” he murmured.
“Everywhere. And yet, I heard nothing. Not a single trace of you. Do you know what that felt like?”

Carmela’s hands clenched into fists at her sides. “I never meant to disappear…”
“You never meant to stay, either,” he said, his voice quiet but sharp.
A pang of guilt twisted inside her. “I…”
He closed the distance between them, his gaze darkening. “Do you know how many times I dreamed of finding you again? Of asking you why you left? Why you never looked back?”
Carmela trembled. She had imagined this reunion countless times, but nothing could have prepared her for the sheer intensity in his eyes, for the raw emotion in his voice.
“I thought…” she whispered, her voice barely audible. “I thought you had forgotten me.”
Abrixien let out a soft, almost bitter chuckle. “You really believe that?”
She looked away, unable to meet his gaze.
His fingers gently tilted her chin back toward him, forcing her to look into his eyes. “Carmela,” he said, his voice softer now, almost pleading.
“Do you have any idea how much I…” He cut himself off, exhaling sharply.
For a long moment, neither of them spoke. The night air wrapped around them, carrying the scent of flowers and unspoken words.
Then, finally, Carmela broke the silence.
“Why did you come?” she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
Abrixien looked at her like the answer was painfully obvious. “Because I still love you.”
Carmela’s breath hitched.
It was too much. The intensity in his eyes, the way his voice trembled slightly as he spoke, the sheer weight of his presence after all these years, it was all too much.
Her body moved before her mind could catch up.
She stepped closer, pressing her hands against his chest as she buried her face against him. He was warm. Solid. Real.
For a moment, Abrixien froze, as if unsure whether to believe what was happening.
Then, slowly, his arms wrapped around her, pulling her against him with an urgency that mirrored the years they had spent apart.
They stood there, under the moonlight, locked in an embrace that felt like home.
Time seemed to stand still.
Neither of them spoke. They didn’t need to.
Because at that moment, words were meaningless.
Abrixien held her tighter, as if afraid she would slip away again. His heart pounded against his chest, and he knew she could hear it.
Carmela’s warmth, her scent, everything about her, felt like something he had longed for all these years, yet never dared to hope for again.
She trembled in his arms, and he pulled back slightly, searching her face. “Are you crying?” he whispered.
Carmela shook her head, but he could see the glistening tears pooling in her eyes.
“I thought…” Her voice was shaky. “I thought I’d lost you forever.”
Abrixien brushed a strand of her hair away from her face, his fingers lingering against her skin. “You’ll never lose me,” he murmured. “Not again.”
Carmela swallowed hard, emotions overwhelming her. “Promise me?”
He gazed into her eyes, his own filled with undeniable certainty.
“I swear it,” he said. “From now on, I will always find you, no matter where you are.”
Carmela’s breath hitched, and for the first time in years, she allowed herself to believe in those words.
Under the endless sky, bathed in silver moonlight, she whispered the only words that mattered.
“I love you, Abrixien.”
