Chapter 188: We Meet Again
The wind carried the scent of burning metal and blood as Archinsyne wandered the desolate plains of Planet Talven-9.
He was not a soldier, nor was he a savior. He had no allegiance, no purpose, no desire to fight.
Yet, something had drawn him here. Perhaps it was fate, or perhaps it was merely a dying man’s curiosity, one last look at the galaxy before he faded into nothingness.
He had seen countless battles in his lifetime. He had watched civilizations rise and crumble like dust in the wind.
He had loved, he had lost, and now, he simply existed, a phantom walking among the living.
The sky overhead was a tapestry of cosmic light, distant stars shimmering through the thick haze of war.
Archinsyne’s gaze traveled over the battlefield, watching as soldiers clashed with monstrous Zergs, their bodies moving in a dance of survival and slaughter.
He felt nothing as he watched them fight. No pity, no admiration. It was just another war, another endless cycle of death and destruction. And then he saw her.
A woman in a bloodstained uniform, her movements swift and merciless as she cut through the enemy like a blade of divine will.
She was unlike the others, unyielding, precise, almost mechanical in her efficiency. But it was not her skill that made Archinsyne stop in his tracks. It was her face.
For the first time in centuries, something in him stirred. She looked exactly like her.
The woman he had loved, the one who had been lost to time. The one whose soul had been wiped from existence, leaving him to wander the cosmos alone.
But no, this was not her. The hair was different, the way she carried herself was different. More than that, she was unreadable to him.
Archinsyne could hear the thoughts of mortals as clearly as if they spoke them aloud. He could see glimpses of their past, threads of their possible futures.
Yet with this woman, there was nothing. A void. A silence he had never known. For the first time in a long time, Archinsyne felt intrigue.
He watched as she moved, her body beginning to falter, her attacks growing sluggish. She was strong, but she had pushed herself beyond her limits.
He could see it, the moment exhaustion seized her limbs, the brief flicker of vulnerability in her stance. And then she fell. Without thinking, Archinsyne moved.
The battlefield blurred around him as he crossed the distance in an instant, catching her before she could hit the ground.
She was weightless in his arms, her breathing shallow, her skin cool beneath the blood and dirt smeared across it.
He stared at her, taking in every detail, the curve of her lips, the way her lashes trembled slightly, the faint scent of something unfamiliar clinging to her skin.
She was unconscious, unaware of the way he studied her. For the first time in centuries, Archinsyne did not know what to do.
She was a soldier. She belonged to the human army, and yet, she felt like something more.
He could feel it in the way her presence tugged at something deep within him, something ancient and long-buried. But this was not his fight. He had no reason to interfere.
And yet…
His grip on her tightened. He could leave her here. Walk away, let fate take its course. That was what he had always done.
But the idea of it, of letting her slip through his fingers, unsettled him in a way he could not understand. With a quiet sigh, he lifted her fully into his arms and began walking.
The closest human outpost was not far. He had watched their movements, studied their routines.
They would find her, tend to her wounds, and she would live. That was enough. That had to be enough.
As he walked, he allowed himself a moment of indulgence, his gaze lingering on her face.
She looked so peaceful like this, so unlike the warrior who had cut through the battlefield without hesitation.

He wondered what she was like when she was not fighting. Did she laugh? Did she dream? What kind of life had she lived to make her so unreadable to him?
He had spent lifetimes looking for something, anything, that could break the monotony of existence. And now, here she was. A woman who should not exist, a mystery even to him.
The thought made something tighten in his chest. He reached the edge of the human camp, setting her down gently in a place where they would find her.
For a long moment, he simply stood there, watching her, feeling the weight of a thousand unspoken thoughts pressing down on him.
Then, without another word, he turned and vanished into the night. He would not stay. He would not interfere. But he would watch. And for the first time in a long, long time…
He wanted to see what happened next. Archinsyne lingered in the shadows, watching as the human soldiers rushed to her side.
Their voices were frantic, calling for medics, demanding to know what had happened. He listened in silence, his gaze never leaving her still form.
One of the soldiers pressed a hand to her wrist, checking for a pulse. “She’s alive,” he breathed, relief evident in his voice.
Of course, she was. Archinsyne had made sure of that. He should leave now. There was no reason for him to stay.
Yet, he found himself rooted to the spot, watching as they lifted her onto a stretcher and carried her into the camp. He told himself it was curiosity, nothing more.
But deep down, he knew that was a lie. She was different. She was unreadable.
And for the first time in centuries, Archinsyne felt something stir within him, a question he could not answer, a path he had not yet walked.
He had intended to wander the galaxy aimlessly, waiting for the day his existence would fade.
But now, there was a reason to stay. Just for a little while.
