Chapter 33: The Mate Bond
His mind replayed the moment he had kissed her, Princess Ahcehera. The memory burned vividly, the feel of her soft lips still imprinted on his own.
I feel like… I am going insane!
He clenched his fists tightly, his nails digging into his palms, as he cursed himself for losing control.
“What the hell was I thinking?” he groaned, pacing the length of his room like a caged wolf.
It wasn’t just a kiss. It was more than that. The primal part of him, the werewolf within, had surged to the surface, overriding his rational mind.
He had felt the sharp sting of jealousy when he saw her with his brother earlier that evening.
It had been like a spark igniting a powder keg of possessiveness he didn’t even know he carried.
“Damn it!” he growled, slamming his fist against the nearest wall. The dull pain that radiated up his arm did little to ease the storm brewing inside him.
I can’t fall for the enemy!
He couldn’t believe he had allowed his instincts to take over, to act on a whim without considering the consequences.
She was the princess, his enemy, and yet, at that moment, all he could think about was how much he wanted her, how much he needed her.
“This can’t be happening,” he muttered, his voice barely audible.
His reflection in the room’s small mirror caught his eye, and he stared at himself with a mixture of disbelief and anger.
His normally bright purple eyes now seemed dull, as though weighed down by guilt and confusion.
The kiss had calmed her pain, he had felt it, the instant their energies collided and merged. But that only raised more questions, ones he wasn’t ready to face.
“Why her?” he whispered to the empty room, his voice breaking. “Why does it have to be her?”
He sank onto the edge of his bed, burying his face in his hands.
I can’t betray my oath!
I can’t betray my promise!
I can’t betray my family!
The lines between duty, hatred, and something far more dangerous were blurring, and for the first time in his life, Richard didn’t know what to do.
As the moonlight filtered through the window, casting a faint glow across the room, one thought echoed in his mind, relentless and unyielding, Why does she feel like mine?
Richard decided to suppress his emotions, resolving to keep his composure in the days leading up to his appointment as the princess’ assistant.
He needed clarity, not impulsiveness if he were to navigate the tangled mess of feelings and responsibilities.
When the day finally arrived, he strode confidently to the office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs.
Yet, the moment he inquired about Ahcehera’s whereabouts, he was met with an unexpected answer.
“Her Highness has returned to the Kingdom of Sirius,” the teacher in charge informed him with a polite smile.
Richard’s brows furrowed slightly. “May I know when she’s expected back? And if there’s any work assigned to me in her absence?”
The teacher shook her head gently. “The princess didn’t mention when she would return, nor did she leave any specific instructions for you, young man.”

Though the response was calm and courteous, it felt like a punch to Richard’s gut. He nodded politely, bidding the teacher farewell before turning to leave the office.
As he walked back to his dormitory, his mind raced with questions. Why had she left so abruptly? Was it related to the events of the ball or something else entirely?
I need to find out.
The moment he entered his room, Richard wasted no time.
He grabbed his communication device and quickly dialed his trusted aide, a man who had served his family loyally for years and had access to information that Richard couldn’t obtain from within the academy.
“Any news about the princess?” Richard asked, his tone clipped and direct.
There was a pause on the other end before his aide responded.
“The second prince of Sirius was injured the night of the celebration and was rushed back to the kingdom. The princess accompanied her brothers on their journey home.”
Richard’s chest tightened at the mention of the prince’s injury, though his mind lingered more on Ahcehera. “And the princess? How is she?”
“She appeared as she always does,” the aide replied.
“Cold, composed, and detached. There’s no sign of anything unusual. Once she returned to her residence in Sirius, there’s been no news of her leaving or taking any public engagements.”
Richard exhaled slowly, a mix of relief and frustration flooding through him. She was unharmed, but the distance between them now felt insurmountable.
Why am I even worried about her?
He clenched his fist, staring at the faint light filtering through his room’s window. He wanted to go to Sirius, to see her with his own eyes, but he knew it was impossible.
Without a valid reason, leaving the academy would only draw unnecessary attention.
All he could do was wait, wait for the day the princess would return.
Yet, with every passing moment, he felt the weight of his restlessness pressing harder against him as if fate itself were testing his patience.
–
Ahcehera sat in the grand hall of the royal palace, the weight of her predicament pressing heavily on her.
What should I do?
She had summoned a series of the kingdom’s most esteemed doctors, hoping one of them could explain the strange sensations and pains she had been experiencing.
Yet, one by one, they had left her chambers, confused and unable to offer answers.
Now, she found herself in the presence of the one person she trusted most, her mother, Queen Tereza.
The queen’s eyes, warm and wise, studied her daughter with concern.
“Dear, what’s wrong?” she asked softly, her voice carrying the soothing cadence that had comforted Ahcehera through childhood.
Ahcehera hesitated, wringing her hands. Finally, she spoke, her voice barely above a whisper. “Mother, what should I do… if I’ve become a werewolf’s mate?”
The words hung in the air, heavy with implication. The queen’s expression shifted instantly, her eyes widening in shock.
“You…”
