Chapter 38: The Mate Bond (6)
Ahcehera did not return to her palace but instead chose to visit her brother’s quarters in the royal infirmary.
She moved with quiet determination through the grand hallways, her footsteps echoing softly against the polished floors.
The room where her second brother, Alexius, lay unconscious was dimly lit, with only a faint golden glow from enchanted lamps lining the walls.
Her fourth brother, Aleverin, was seated by the bedside, his sharp features softened by exhaustion.
His usual composed demeanor was overshadowed by the dark circles under his eyes.
Alexius and Aleverin shared a unique bond. Among their siblings, they were known to be the closest.
The fourth brother is exhausting his body. This is not good.
Her second brother, Alexius, was a brilliant scientist, while her fourth brother had earned his title as a renowned master mecha builder.
Though these two often collaborated on intricate projects, Aleverin had always been the one Ahcehera could turn to for comfort and understanding.
“Fourth brother,” Ahcehera began softly, her gaze falling on Alexius’ still form, “is there still no sign of Second Brother waking up?”
Aleverin shook his head, his expression grim. “Nothing yet. His fingers haven’t even twitched.”
Ahcehera frowned, her heart aching for her brother. She glanced at Aleverin, noting the strain etched into his features.
The princess was always the apple of the eye among the children in the royal family. Her feelings are affecting me deeply.
“You’ve been awake for too long. You need to rest, Fourth Brother. Look at yourself, you’re exhausted.”
“I’m fine,” he replied, though his voice betrayed his weariness.
“I just… I can’t shake the guilt. Something happened to Alexius while I wasn’t there to protect him. The fifth brother is handling the investigation, but the murderer is still at large.”
The second prince is always known for his weak health, which is why he became a scientist and armed himself with technology.
But how did he get himself involved in an accident?
Ahcehera sighed and moved to sit beside her fourth brother. A small, elegantly designed meal box appeared in her hand, summoned with a flick of her fingers.
She placed it gently on the table beside him. “At least eat something. You can’t help Second Brother if you’re in poor condition yourself.”
Aleverin glanced at the box and arched an eyebrow. “Did you cook this? Is it a new recipe?”
When he opened the meal box, a delicious aroma filled the air.
Inside was a complete meal set, perfectly seared slices of meat, vibrant vegetables seasoned with spices, and a small, neatly arranged Ube dessert.
The presentation was exquisite, as expected of Ahcehera’s meticulous touch.
“Wow! There’s meat!” Aleverin exclaimed, his eyes lighting up despite his fatigue. “It looks amazing.”
“Eat,” Ahcehera urged with a small smile. “It’ll help ease your stress. You know how our second brother is, he wouldn’t want to wake up and find one of us in bad shape.”
Aleverin sighed, his shoulders slumping as he picked up the utensils.
“How I wish he could eat this meal with us,” he murmured, glancing at Alexius, who remained unmoving on the bed. “Do you want some?”
Ahcehera didn’t respond immediately. Instead, she gazed at Alexius, her fingers tightening slightly around the edge of the table. “I’ve already eaten.”

The room fell into a heavy silence, broken only by the faint clink of utensils as Aleverin began to eat.
Though neither said it aloud, both silently vowed to uncover the truth behind what had happened and to ensure Alexius woke up to rejoin their family.
Azedreo, the fifth prince of the Sirius Kingdom, sat in his dimly lit study, the glow from the holographic display casting sharp shadows across his face.
He held a report in his hands, the contents of which left him incredulous.
According to the data, a secret passage, a hidden wormhole, existed, connecting Sirius and Agartha in a single, seamless space jump.
The implications were staggering. Such a discovery could change everything they knew about interstellar travel and security.
However, Azedreo’s instincts told him to tread carefully. He refrained from deploying imperial soldiers to test the wormhole.
Instead, he poured over ancient maps, correlating the data with historical accounts of unexplained phenomena in the region.
Realizing the gravity of the situation, Azedreo opened a secure communication line to his sister.
“Did you find something, Fifth Brother?” Ahcehera’s calm voice came through the device.
“I need you to meet me at Father’s office tonight,” Azedreo said, his tone serious. “There’s a major problem at the academy.”
“I’ll be there to report, Fifth Brother,” Ahcehera replied without hesitation.
As the call ended, Ahcehera turned her gaze toward the hospital room.
Inside, her fourth brother, Aleverin, was fast asleep on the couch, exhaustion evident in the way his usually sharp posture had softened.
With a quiet sigh, Ahcehera retrieved a blanket from her space button, a small, enchanted device used to store personal items.
She carefully draped the blanket over Aleverin, tucking it in around his shoulders to ward off the chill of the room.
Her eyes scanned the room once more, unease prickling at the edges of her senses.
Something felt off.
Ahcehera activated her communication device again, this time contacting their sixth brother, Acentrix.
Moments later, Acentrix arrived, his presence commanding despite his casual demeanor.
His sharp features mirrored the family’s noble lineage, though his eyes held a warmth that set him apart from his siblings.
“How’s Second Brother?” he asked, his voice laced with concern.
“Still unconscious,” Ahcehera replied. “Fourth Brother is watching over him, but he’s fallen asleep from exhaustion.”
Acentrix frowned. “Both of them are worrying…”
Ahcehera nodded, then stepped closer, lowering her voice. “Sixth Brother, bring your weapon.”
Acentrix blinked, caught off guard by her request. “Why? What’s going on?”
“Something feels wrong tonight,” she explained, her tone firm. “I can’t shake the feeling that we’re not safe here. Please, be prepared to defend yourself.”
Acentrix’s surprise quickly turned to resolve. “I will. But you should also be careful, Ahcehera. Don’t take unnecessary risks.”
“I won’t,” she assured him with a small smile.
As they parted ways in the quiet hallway, Ahcehera’s steps quickened.
Most events never occurred in the original novel.
The weight of the night’s events pressed heavily on her, but she knew one thing for certain, whatever was coming, she and her family would face it together.
