Chapter 157: Aren’t You Cold?
In the backyard, Chi Junheng heard his wife calling him and walked out. When Duan Yixin and Chi Xiyou walked into the front yard, Chi Xinru also walked out of her bedroom. She was relieved to see that her best friend was alright.
Chi Xinru smiled at Duan Yixin and said, “Xin Xin, come in quickly.”
Duan Yixin nodded, put away the oil-paper umbrella, and stepped into the house. While Chi Xiyou handed the heavy bamboo basket to his father, he said, “Father, I will go to Xin Xin’s house to move some plants.”
Chi Junheng took the bamboo basket and said, “Be careful and come back as soon as possible. The village chief just came and said the situation is getting worse. We may need to go out and help them reinforce the river banks or evacuate victims.”
Chi Xiyou nodded to his father, then looked at his Mother and said, “Mother, Xin Xin made a lot of steamed buns and pancakes today. She was concerned that the flour would mold in the now humid temperatures, so she turned them into dry foods. I think we should do the same thing before our flour goes bad.”
Madam Chi agreed to her son’s suggestion and said, “All right, Mother will do as you say. Come back quickly and pay attention to safety.”
Knowing that his Mother was worried about him, Chi Xiyou smiled and said, “I know. I will be back in a moment.”
After saying that, Chi Xiyou put the straw raincoat covering Duan Yixin’s bamboo basket on his body and left in a hurry. Watching her son running into the rain, Madam Chi held her hands tightly.
Chi Junheng stood beside her, held her hands, and gently said, “Don’t worry. Dalang can protect himself.”
Seeing her parents showing affection again, Chi Xinru rolled her eyes and said, “Xin Xin, let’s go.”
Chi Xinru carried the bamboo basket, pulled Duan Yixin toward her bedroom, and whispered, “My parents always act like no one is around. You will get used to it after a while.”
Duan Yixin smiled when she heard Chi Xinru complaining about her parents but didn’t say anything. Having parents is a blessing, and Duan Yixin is actually quite envious of Chi Xinru in this regard.
After the two of them entered Chi Xinru’s bedroom, Chi Xinru put down the bamboo basket beside the wooden table and said, “Xin Xin, have you had dinner?”
Duan Yixin shook her head and said, “Not yet. I just wanted to eat, and Elder Brother Xiyou came.”
After hearing her answer, Chi Xinru moved the small brazier in the corner of the room to the bedside and said, “You should warm yourself up first. I will get you something to eat.”
Before Chi Xinru took a step, Duan Yixin grabbed her wrist and said, “I made a lot of steamed buns and pancakes. I can eat them for dinner.”
Chi Xinru looked at her for a moment and said, “All right. Then I will pour you a pot of warm water.”
This time, Duan Yixin did not refuse and said, “Thank you, Xinru.”
After Chi Xinru left the bedroom, Duan Yixin opened the lid of the bamboo basket. Remembering that Liushiliu hadn’t had dinner either, she took out a piece of coarse cloth from the warehouse. She spread the coarse cloth on the wooden table, placed a few steamed buns and pancakes on it, and wrapped them up.
Seeing that Chi Xinru hadn’t come back yet, Duan Yixin walked to the window with the package. She opened the window and looked out but found no one around. Because of the heavy rain, Duan Yixin couldn’t smell the smell of blood in the air and couldn’t tell whether Liushiliu was around or not.
Duan Yixin glanced at the closed door, then turned to look out the window and asked in a low voice, “Liushiliu, are you there?”
A few seconds after she asked, Liushiliu appeared outside the window. He looked at her and asked, “Miss Duan, do you need anything?”
Duan Yixin looked at him and said, “Because Elder Brother Xiyou came before we had time to have dinner, I prepared this for you.”
After handing the package to Liushiliu, she glanced at his drenched appearance, thought for a second, and said, “Can you wait here for a moment?”
Liushiliu nodded and waited outside, observing the surrounding situation while Duan Yixin walked to the bed. She stood on the other side of the bed, out of sight of Liushiliu, and took out a thick cotton blanket from the warehouse.
After opening the plastic wrap, Duan Yixin took out four packs of medicine and two packs of honey ginger herbal tea. Thinking that Liushiliu had nothing to carry these things, Duan Yixin took out a leather bag from the warehouse.
After putting the blanket, medicine, and herbal tea into the leather bag, she returned to the window and handed it to Liushiliu.
Duan Yixin pointed to the leather bag and said, “There is a blanket, cold medicine, and herbal tea in it. Find a place to stay and make herbal tea to warm up your body. If you have a fever tonight, boil the medicine and drink it. After taking four packets of medicine, you should be fine.”
Liushiliu looked at the big leather bag and was moved by Duan Yixin’s kindness. He nodded and said, “I understand. Thank you, Miss Duan.”
As soon as he finished speaking, the two of them heard Chi Xinru’s voice, “Xin Xin, my Mother has boiled ginger water for you. Drink this to warm your body.”

As soon as Chi Xinru opened the bedroom door, Liushiliu disappeared. Chi Xinru saw Duan Yixin standing by the window and asked, “What are you doing standing there? Aren’t you cold when the wind blows?”
Duan Yixin walked to the wooden table and said, “I just want to see if the rain has stopped.”
Hearing her answer, Chi Xinru sighed, looked out of the window, and said, “The rain may continue until tomorrow. By then, I don’t know how many villages will be flooded.”
