Chapter 175: Our Wangfei
The black raven heard the whistle, flew down, and landed gently on Liushiliu’s left arm. Liushiliu stroked the wet feathers of the raven a few times before opening the small leather bag tied to its leg.
Liushiliu took out a small bamboo tube, opened it, and took out a piece of paper. He unfolded the paper and read the secret message. When he was focused on the secret message, the black raven jumped onto his shoulder to rest.
A few seconds later, Liushiliu finished reading the secret message, and his eyes lit up. He then took out a lighter and burned the letter.
After putting away the lighter, Liushiliu looked at Duan Yixin, who was busy moving the things from the bullock cart to the wooden building and thought, ‘Master said he was on his way to Yunshan Village. Could it be that he finally decided to meet Miss Duan? Now that Master has finally taken action, doesn’t it mean that Miss Duan will become Master’s wife in the near future? Should I start calling her Wangfei or Mistress? I wonder which one she prefers.’
Just when Liushiliu was thinking about what title he should use to address Duan Yinxin in the future, the black raven pecked his ear. Feeling the pain, Liushiliu returned from his thoughts.
He flicked the black raven’s forehead lightly and asked, “Why are you pecking at me?”
The black raven stared at him as if accusing him of bullying it before crowing a few times. Feeling the dissatisfaction of the black raven, Liushiliu took out a bunch of nuts from the leather bag given by Duan Yixin.
He brought the nuts to the black raven’s mouth and said, “You have to remember that these are given to you by our Wangfei.”
After saying that, Liushiliu thought it would be better to call Duan Yixin Wangfei instead of Mistress. Calling her Wangfei also means that he accepts her as his Master’s wife and his equal. What’s more, he knew that many women wanted to be his Master’s Wangfei. From this point alone, Liushiliu was convinced that the title of Yan Wangfei was of great significance to women.
Thinking of this, he thought, ‘Mhm, I should start practicing calling Miss Duan Wangfei from now on.’
While Liushiliu was satisfied with the title he chose, the black raven stopped eating, raised its head, and stared at him. Seeing its reaction, Liushiliu pointed at Duan Yixin and said, “She is our Wangfei, and her name is Duan Yixin. Since you have eaten the food she gave you, you must protect her and obey her orders in the future. Do you understand me?”
The black raven seemed to understand Liushiliu’s words. It crowed once and then continued eating nuts. After eating all the nuts, the black raven cuddled with Liushiliu for a while and then flew away. Before it left, the black raven circled above Duan Yixin’s head to show its affection.
Duan Yixin noticed the black raven circling in the sky. She raised her head and watched the black raven circle above her head several times before flying away and disappearing into the horizon. She looked in the direction of the black raven for a while, then walked towards the third wooden building with a stack of wooden basins in her hand as if nothing had happened.
Just as they were moving things into the wooden building, Chi Junheng and Chi Xiyou came back with Tang Sanniu and the village elders. Chi Xinru frowned when she saw Tang Sanniu walking beside her father.
Since Tang Zizheng and Duan Yixin broke off their marriage engagement, Chi Xinru no longer had a good impression of the Tang family. If there is a bad person like Tang Zizheng in their family, then it is very likely that other people will have the same traits as him. After all, birds with the same feathers flock together.
After Duan Yixin put down the last wooden barrel in the wooden building, she walked out and saw Chi Xinru frowning. She patted her sore arms and asked curiously, “Xinru, what are you looking at?”
Chi Xinru motioned her to look in the direction of the fence with her chin and whispered, “Father is back with the village chief and elders. Based on my experience, they must be up to no good when they come to us. Otherwise, who would be willing to travel to other people’s places when it rains heavily? If it were me, I’d rather sleep in bed than go to someone else’s house in the current weather.”
Duan Yixin followed her line of sight and saw Tang Sanniu and the elders approaching with solemn expressions. Judging from their expressions, it seemed that what Chi Xinru said might be true. Just as the two were talking in low voices, Chi Xiyou saw them from a distance.
He walked faster and got there before the others. While taking off his wet straw raincoat, Chi Xiyou turned his back to Tang Sanniu and the elders and whispered, “Ru’er, Xin Xin, hurry up and hide our food.”
As soon as these words came out, Duan Yixin and Chi Xiyou exchanged glances. A second later, the two nodded to Chi Xiyou and quickly walked into the second wooden building.
Chi Junheng noticed their small movements and then glanced at Tang Sanniu. Recalling what Tang Sanniu said when they met near the Sun family’s house, Chi Junheng pretended not to notice what Chi Xiyou and the others wanted to do.
Inside the house, Madam Chi saw them come back in a hurry and asked, “What is wrong? Did something happen?”
Seeing Chi Xinru stuffing grains, strawberries, and most of the dry food into Duan Yixin’s bamboo basket, Madam Chi knew that something must have happened. She put down the clothes she was mending, looked outside, and saw Chi Xiyou.
After thinking for a few seconds, Madam Chi asked, “Dalang is back? Why didn’t he come in but stay outside?”
