Chapter 189: Her Care And Tenderness
Looking at Duan Yixin’s peaceful sleeping face, Xuan Ruiquan smiled and reached out to gently brush the hair from her cheek. He stared at her for a long time before he saw her eyelashes move slightly. The next second, Duan Yixin woke up and groaned softly.
She rubbed her stiff neck, moved her body, and then yawned sleepily. Just as she was stretching her body, she heard deep laughter coming from the bed.
“Good morning.” A deep man’s voice came from beside her.
Listening to his deep and slightly hoarse voice, Duan Yixin turned around and saw Xuan Ruiquan looking at her with a smile. She was a little embarrassed to be caught doing those stretching poses, so Duan Yixin coughed lightly to cover up her embarrassment.
After she controlled her emotions, she reached out and touched his forehead and said, “Your fever is gone. How do you feel now?”
Xuan Ruiquan pushed his body up from the bed and said, “I just felt a little sore from lying down for three days.”
Duan Yixin breathed a sigh of relief and then checked his pulse. Looking at her slightly messy hair and her tired face, Xuan Ruiquan asked, “Are you the one taking care of me these days?”
She nodded and replied calmly, “Yes. I was worried that Liushiliu and General Lan couldn’t take good care of you, so I volunteered.”
He was silent for a few seconds and asked, “Where are Liushiliu and Lan Zhuoyu?”
“They went hunting to add meat to your meals.” She answered calmly.
Looking at her serious face when Duan Yixin checked his pulse, Xuan Ruiquan suddenly saw the image of Duan Yixin in his previous life overlapped with the younger version of Duan Yixin sitting next to him. He silently stared at her, feeling thankful that Duan Yixin was living better in this life than in the previous life.
In this life, she and Tang Zizheng broke off their marriage engagement, and Xuan Ruiquan met her before Duan Yixin was forced to marry another man. Realizing that he might have a chance to marry her before anyone else, Xuan Ruiquan’s heart beat faster from anticipation.
At the same time, Duan Yixin, who was checking his pulse, felt his heartbeat speed up and frowned. She looked at him and said worriedly, “Your heartbeat suddenly speeded up, and your face turned red. Do you have a fever again?”
Without waiting for Xuan Ruiquan to answer, Duan Yixin reached out and touched his forehead. Touched by her soft hands, Xuan Ruiquan’s face turned redder.
Looking at his flushed face, Duan Yixin asked again, “Are you feeling uncomfortable? You don’t have a fever, but your heartbeat is too fast.”
Xuan Ruiquan coughed lightly to conceal his shyness, shook his head, and said, “I’m fine.”
Duan Yixin stared at him thoughtfully for a while before saying, “I’m going to get your medicine. Wait here for a moment.”
After saying that, she walked to the campfire and poured the medicine from the medicine pot into a bowl. After coming back, she handed the bowl of medicine to Xuan Ruiquan and said, “Drink it while it is hot.”
Xuan Ruiquan took the medicine from her hand and drank it in one breath. Seeing that he drank the bitter medicine without even frowning, Duan Yixin smiled and said, “I’m going to make breakfast. Is there anything you want to eat?”
Looking at her tired face, Xuan Ruiquan felt heartbroken but happy at the same time. He didn’t know whether her care and tenderness in this life were due to the change of their fate or because they met each other before she married Tang Zizheng. But no matter what the reason was, Xuan Ruiquan was very happy to be able to talk to her.
He reached out to hold her hand but stopped in the middle when he noticed Duan Yixin’s body stiffened. He retracted his hand, lowered his eyes, and told himself that he must be patient and not scare her away.
After a few seconds of silence, Xuan Ruiquan worriedly looked at her, “You look pale. I’m very thankful you are taking care of me, but please– you need to take care of yourself, too.”
Duan Yixin raised her hand to touch her face and said, “I just lack sleep. It doesn’t matter.”
Before Xuan Ruiquan could persuade her to take more care of herself, Liushiliu and Lan Zhuoyu came back. When they walked into the cave, the two of them saw that Xuan Ruiquan had woken up and felt relief.
“Master, you are finally awake.” Liushiliu quickly put the pheasant down on the ground and walked up to him.
He knelt in front of Xuan Ruiquan, looked at him with worry, and asked, “Master, how do you feel?”
Looking at his worried eyes, Xuan Ruiquan replied calmly, “Thanks to everyone’s efforts, I feel much better now. When we go back, you can collect the reward from Jian Er.”
Liushiliu shook his head and said, “This subordinate doesn’t need a reward. As long as Master is fine, this is already a reward for this subordinate.”
Xuan Ruiquan looked at Liushiliu, patted him on the shoulder, and said, “Well done.”
After receiving his Master’s praise, Liushiliu smiled happily. He lowered his head and said, “Thank you, Master, for the compliment.”

Seeing the cold and calm Liushiliu became so happy after being praised by Xuan Ruiquan, Duan Yixin couldn’t help but look at Xuan Ruiquan thoughtfully. Just when Liushiliu was still immersed in his happiness, Lan Zhuoyu had already cleaned up the three pheasants they had hunted.
He looked at Duan Yixin and asked, “Miss Duan, can you help me cook these pheasants?”
Duan Yixin nodded and answered, “All right.”
Walking up to him, she calmly said, “General Lan, since your brother is fine, I will go back to Yunshan Village today. I have been away for three days, and I am very worried about my friend and her family.”
Lan Zhuoyu nodded and said, “All right. Then I will take you back after breakfast.”
Duan Yixin smiled and said, “Mhm, thank you, General Lan.”
