Chapter 207: Letter
A few seconds later, Yue Yue asked curiously, “I wondered, how could the plague spread so quickly when the northern and western regions were so far apart?”
Xi Xi shook her head and answered, “I don’t know either. However, a close friend of my elder brother’s who works in the Imperial Physician Court said that the plague may be spread through water. As for the details, my elder brother said it’s best not to know too much.”
While the two young ladies talked in low voices, Ye Huiyu listened to their conversation carefully. After a while, the two ladies changed the subject, and she stopped listening to them. When she took another sip of tea, Ye Huiyu frowned slightly because the tea was cold.
She calmly placed the teacup on the table, thinking about what she heard that night after she and Duan Qinwang returned from the imperial palace banquet six days ago. While she was recalling the conversation between Duan Qinwang and her father, a servant came over and whispered something to her.
After the servants left, Ye Huiyu looked at her guests and said, “Madams, Young Ladies, the food is ready. Let’s go to the pavilion by the lake and enjoy the scenery while having our meals.”
The madams and young ladies stood up one after another, bent their knees slightly, and said in unison, “Yes, Duan Qinwangfei.”
After saying that, they took a step back and waited until Ye Huiyu walked past them before following her toward the pavilion by the lake. The flower-viewing banquet at Duan Qinwang’s Mansion lasted for several hours. As the madams and young ladies left one after another, the sky slowly changed color.
After sending out her guests, Ye Huiyu returned to her courtyard and entered the study. She sat behind the large desk and prepared a piece of paper. Seeing this, her personal maidservant poured a little bit of water on the inkstone and began to grind the ink for her. With the ink ready, Ye Huiyu picked up the writing brush from the brush holder and wrote a letter.
After a few minutes, she blew on the letter and put down the writing brush. Then, she carefully folded the letter and handed it to her nanny.
“Mo Mo, help me send this letter to Dali Si.” Ye Huiyu said calmly.
The nanny was surprised but said nothing and kept the letter carefully, “Yes, Wangfei.”
Ye Huiyu looked at the darkening sky and said, “Be careful when you go out. Don’t let anyone know.”
The nanny nodded and said, “Don’t worry, Wangfei. I know what to do.”
After saying that, the nanny left in a hurry. Before leaving Duan Qinwang’s Mansion, the nanny put on a simple black cloak and pulled down the hood. After walking out of the back door, the nanny checked the surroundings for a moment and walked quickly to Dali Si.
Along the way, the nanny did not dare to let down her guard and constantly observed the surrounding situation. When she arrived at Dali Si, the sun had already disappeared into the western horizon. The nanny looked at the soldiers wearing black masks guarding the entrance of Dali Si, and the fear in her heart increased.
She took a few deep breaths to calm herself down and adjust her rapid breathing. After she calmed down, the nanny walked over to a soldier. Before she could speak, the soldiers noticed her arrival, and one of them blocked her way.
“Who are you? What are you doing here?” The soldiers asked coldly.
The nanny felt the soldier’s cold gaze on her body, trembled all over, and said, “Jun Ren, I’m here to deliver a letter.”
The soldier stretched out his hand and said nothing, still staring at the nanny. Seeing that she had no choice but to hand the letter to the soldier, the nanny took out the letter from her sleeve and said, “Duan Qinwangfei wrote this letter.”
After hearing what she said, the soldier’s expression did not change at all. He took the letter from the nanny and asked, “Do you have anything else to do here?”
The nanny shook her head and said, “Nothing more.”
The soldier nodded and said, “Then you should leave.”
Seeing that the soldiers were still staring at her, the nanny had no choice but to leave before she even stepped into the gate of Dali Si. However, before she walked away, the nanny reminded the soldier, “Jun Ren, please deliver the letter as soon as possible.”
The soldier said nothing, just stared at the nanny. When the nanny finally disappeared into the darkness, the soldier looked at his comrade and said, “Brothers, I will deliver the letter first.”
The comrades nodded, and the soldier walked into Dali Si. Arriving at the administrative office’s door, the soldier knocked on the door.
Knock, knock, knock.
The next second, a tired voice came from the other side of the door, “Please come in.”
The soldier opened the door, walked in, and stood in front of Jian Er. He clasped his fists and said, “Deputy Commander, a middle-aged woman just sent a letter saying that this letter was from Duan Qinwangfei.”
Hearing this, Jian Er looked up from the investigation report and said, “Give me the letter.”
The soldier handed him the letter and waited. After reading the letter, Jian Er said, “Thank you. You can go back to your post.”

“This subordinate takes his leave.” The soldier left and closed the door.
As soon as the door closed, Jian Er stood up and walked to the wall. He pressed several stones in the wall, and the next second, the wall slowly opened, revealing a hidden corridor. Jian Er walked into the corridor with the letter and closed the wall from inside the corridor.
He walked for a few minutes before opening the door at the end of the corridor. As soon as the door opened, Jian Yi and the others stopped what they were doing and looked in the direction of the door.
