Chapter 246: Start Treatment (1)
After saying that, Duan Yixin looked at Chi Xiyou and said, “Elder Brother Xiyou, let’s go.”
Under Chi Xiyou’s guidance, they came to the place where people set up porridge stalls. Duan Yixin saw a long queue at three porridge stalls and asked, “Who are those people?”
Chi Xiyou had inquired before and said, “They come from three different groups. One of them is from Li Junwang’s Mansion, and the other two are branch families of wealthy businessmen and noble families from the imperial capital city.”
Hearing this, Chi Xinru rolled her eyes and said, “Those noble families just use these people to show their kindness, win the sympathy of the common people, and establish a good reputation for themselves.”
When Duan Yixin heard this, she looked at Chi Xinru and said, “Xinru, I didn’t expect you to know such a thing.”
Chi Xinru pouted and said, “Since I can talk and walk, my mother always forces me to learn about the noble families. After so many years of education, I have remembered this by heart now.”
Although she wanted to ask more, when she saw that it was getting late, Duan Yixin said, “Let’s set up the table first.”
With the help of Chi Xiyou and Chi Xinru, Duan Yixin found a simple table and two stools. She set up her table under a big tree and waited for the children to arrive. However, before the children came, a woman in her thirties approached the three of them.
The woman stood a few steps away from the table and asked, “Young Lady, what do you offer here?”
Duan Yixin looked at the woman, noticing her wan and pale face. After observing the woman for a few seconds, she said, “I’m a physician, and I’m here to provide free treatment.”
When the woman heard her words, her eyes suddenly lit up. She took a step closer and said, with a hint of hope in her voice, “Are you really a physician? Can you– can you cure the plague?”
Although the woman was excited, Duan Yixin said calmly, “I need to check the patient’s condition first before I can answer your question.”
After hearing Duan Yixin’s answer, the woman asked, “Young Lady, how long will you stay here today?”
Duan Yixin thought for a moment and said, “I will leave before dark.”
When the woman heard this, she became anxious and asked again, “Will you come again tomorrow?”
Duan Yixin nodded, “Yes. Treatment is not a short-term job. Elder Sister, if you have family members who are sick, you can bring them to me.”
The woman’s eyes lit up, and she nodded quickly, “I, I will bring them here. Thank you, young lady.”
After the woman left in a hurry, the refugees who heard their conversation looked at each other with doubt in their eyes. Duan Yixin said nothing when she saw the refugees’ distrust of her medical skills.
Not long after, Duan Yixin saw the little girl coming with several children. The oldest one looks about eight years old, and the youngest one looks about two or three years old. All of them are very thin and look sickly at first glance.
“Elder Sister, I brought my friends.” The little girl said, standing a few steps away from the table.
Seeing the obvious fear on the children’s faces when they looked at Chi Xiyou, Duan Yixin smiled gently and said, “Thank you, little girl. Do you want me to give you a simple check-up?”
The little girl thought about the candy’s sweet taste and nodded. Her elder brother once said that anyone who can share sweetness with her is a good person. Since this elder sister gives her sweet candy, she is a good person. After thinking for a while, the little girl calmly climbed onto the stool and stretched out her arms.
Duan Yixin reached into her leather bag and took out a pulse pillow from the warehouse. Seeing this, Chi Xiyou scratched his head in confusion. It seems that Duan Yixin’s bag can hold a lot of things, unlike his leather bag.
Just when Chi Xiyou was thinking about the difference between their leather bags, Duan Yixin smiled at the little girl and said, “You can put your hand in this pulse pillow.”
Seeing the clean pulse pillow, the little girl hesitated. She looked at her dirty hands and clothes and said, “Elder Sister, I’m dirty.”
Seeing this, Duan Yixin thought for a moment, bent down, and picked up a little soil with the tip of her index finger. She wiped the dirt on the corners of the pulse pillow and said, “Look, the pulse pillow is dirty now. It’s fine for you to place your wrist here.”
The little girl looked at Duan Yixin with wide eyes. A few seconds later, she placed her thin wrist on the pulse pillow. Seeing this, Duan Yixin smiled at the little girl to prevent her from being nervous and then put her fingers on the little girl’s wrist.
She checked the little girl’s pulse for more than a minute and then withdrew her finger. Before she could speak, Chi Xinru handed her a writing brush.
Duan Yixin raised her eyebrows when she saw this, and Chi Xinru said, “I thought you might need to write prescriptions, so I prepared it while you were talking to General Xuan at the inn this morning.”
Duan Yixin took the writing brush and said, “Thank you, Xinru.”

“I will help you grind the ink.” Chi Xinru said with a smile.
After the ink was ready, Duan Yixin wrote a prescription for the little girl. After putting down the writing brush, she handed the prescription to the little girl and said, “Little girl, elder sister didn’t bring any medicine that is suitable for you today. Keep this prescription and come to me to get the medicine tomorrow.”
The little girl nodded, wiped her dirty hands on her clothes, and then carefully took the prescription handed over by Duan Yixin. After the little girl got off the stool, Duan Yixin looked at the children standing behind her and asked, “Who is next?”
