Chapter 252: She Would Rather Not Save Anyone
Upon hearing Xuan Ruiquan’s question, the children stopped playing. A little girl nodded and said, “Yes. Elder Brother, are you looking for Elder Sister?”
Xuan Ruiquan nodded and asked, “Do you know where she is now?”
The little girl nodded, pointed to the center of the camp, and said, “Elder Sister is still treating people there.”
Xuan Ruiquan followed the little girl’s line of sight and took out a few copper coins from his belt. He handed them to the little girl and said, “Thank you.”
After walking for a while, Xuan Ruiquan came to the open space in the center of the refugee camp. Seeing a long queue appearing in front of him, Xuan Ruiquan looked at the front of the queue and saw Chi Xiyou and Chi Xinru standing on the left and right sides of Duan Yixin.
Seeing that she was fine, Xuan Ruiquan’s anxious heart slowly calmed down, and he led the horse towards them. When the refugees saw him coming, they looked at him like a thief.
Just as Xuan Ruiquan was standing beside the table, a man who was waiting in line suddenly said, “Hey, go to the back of the line. You must abide by the rules. Otherwise, Physician Xin will not treat you.”
Hearing this, Xuan Ruiquan turned to look at the man and saw that his face was pale. Looking at his strong body, Xuan Ruiquan guessed that this man might have been infected with the plague, but since he was stronger than ordinary people, his condition was better than that of most refugees.
Seeing him coming, Chi Xiyou and Chi Xinru nodded to him. Chi Xiyou smiled and asked, “Are you done with your work?”
Xuan Ruiquan nodded and tied the horse to a tree nearby. A few seconds later, Duan Yixin retracted her fingers from the patient’s wrist. She raised her head and saw Xuan Ruiquan coming back after tying the horse’s reins to the tree.
Duan Yixin smiled and said, “General Xuan, you are here. Are you done with your business?”
Xuan Ruiquan ignored the curious looks of the man and other patients and looked at Duan Yixin. The moment his eyes fell on her, the coldness in them melted like snow in early spring.
He smiled gently at her, “Yes. What about you? Have you had your lunch?”
Duan Yixin looked at the long queue and said, “Not yet. It seems I need to stay here until night. How about you go back first?”
Following her line of sight, Xuan Ruiquan saw the people waiting anxiously. He frowned slightly and said, “Then I will wait for you here. Let’s have lunch first and then continue.”
When Duan Yixin heard this, she smiled and said, “Alright.”
After speaking, Duan Yixin wrote a prescription for the patient and said, “Please come back tomorrow to get the medicine.”
The old woman took the prescription and said, “Thank you, Physician Xin.”
After the old woman left with the support of her family, the man who had just spoken sat down. Duan Yixin looked at him and said apologetically, “I’m sorry, Sir. I will rest for an hour. Please come back later.”
Hearing this, the man said angrily, “I have been waiting since the morning and stood for several hours. I am exhausted. How can you let me go back just because you want to rest? Isn’t all my efforts in queuing now in vain?”
Before Duan Yixin could speak, Xuan Ruiquan, Chi Xiyou, and Chi Xinru were already standing in front of her. Xuan Ruiquan looked at the man and said coldly, “If you don’t want to wait, just leave.”
When the man’s eyes met Xuan Ruiquan’s cold eyes, he immediately lost his courage. He looked away and asked, “What? Do you want to hit someone?”
Seeing that he was determined to make trouble, Duan Yixin gently pulled Xuan Ruiquan’s sleeve and said in a low voice, “Let me have a word with him.”
Xuan Ruiquan thought for a while and took a step back. When the man saw Xuan Ruiquan take a step back, he felt proud.
He looked at Duan Yixin, raised his chin, and said, “Hmph! Wouldn’t it be better to do your job right from the start? There are still many people waiting in line for treatment. How can you say you want to rest when we are still queuing up?”
Duan Yixin looked at the man calmly and said, “You are wrong. I came here today to treat people out of goodwill and compassion, not because it is my job. Since you don’t appreciate my hard work, then go find another physician.”
After saying that, Duan Yixin stood up and packed her things. Seeing that she was leaving, the other patients became anxious. The middle-aged woman waiting behind the man looked worriedly at her two-year-old grandson, who had a high fever.
When she saw Duan Yixin really leaving with the others, she quickly followed them and knelt in front of Duan Yixin. The middle-aged woman hugged her sick grandson and cried as she said, “Physician Xin, please save my grandson. Please be merciful.”
Duan Yixin looked at the child’s flushed face in silence. After a moment, she took a bottle of medicine from her leather bag. She poured out three white pills and handed them to the middle-aged woman.
“Give your grandson one pill and feed him one pill every six hours. After finishing the three pills, if his fever goes away, he will be fine. If not, go find a physician and give him acupuncture to reduce his fever.”

After saying that, Duan Yixin stood up and left without looking back. Although she wanted to save patients, she wouldn’t let them take her efforts for granted. Once she listened to their unreasonable demands, she would be treated like a slave and forced to work nonstop. Instead of hurting herself and her friends, she would rather not save anyone.
Seeing Duan Yixin really leaving, the middle-aged woman was stunned.
