Chapter 280: Xuan Ruiquan’s Realization
After speaking, Chi Xinru observed Duan Yixin’s expression for a moment and asked hesitantly, “Xin Xin, are you angry?”
Duan Yixin shook her head and said, “Grandpa must have had his reasons for hiding it from me. I’m sorry to my Grandpa that I couldn’t fulfill his last wish. However, I need to find my origins and find back my lost memories. I couldn’t live in the dark while my grandfather’s enemies could attack me at any moment.”
Hearing what she said, Chi Xinru breathed a sigh of relief. She leaned back in her seat and patted her heart.
She smiled and said, “I’m almost nervous to death. It’s good that you don’t get angry. No matter what your decision is, my elder brother and I will always support you.”
Duan Yixin smiled and thought sadly, ‘I am not the original Duan Yixin, and I have no right to judge any of you. Unfortunately, the original Duan Yixin is no longer here, and she will never know who her father is. Unless– I can find a way to bring her back and return this body to her.’
Listening to their conversation, Xuan Ruiquan lowered his eyes and frowned, ‘A high-ranking official with a messy relative? There are not many high-ranking officials with chaotic family relationships. I don’t know who Xin’er’s biological father is. If that person is not a good person, I will not let her meet him under any circumstances.’
He glanced at Duan Yixin and Chi Xinru, who were chatting happily, and thought, ‘Who are those enemies they are talking about? Could it be that the death of Xin’er in my previous life had something to do with these people?’
Thinking of this, Xuan Ruiquan’s eyes shrunk. The more he thought about it, the more he realized the truth might be different than what he knew.
He frowned even more tightly and thought, ‘That makes sense. As a mere villager, Liang Jiaying had no way of influencing Tang Zizheng, who would become prime minister in the future. Unless there is a more powerful person behind the scenes who can secretly control the imperial court and the army, it is impossible for Liang Jiaying to kill Biao Ge.’
‘As an emperor, Biao Ge would not be killed so easily. However, he died suddenly in my previous life, and I couldn’t even find the person who killed him. No, I can’t let the same thing happen again. I have to find the mastermind before history repeats itself.’
After making the decision, Xuan Ruiquan began to formulate a plan in his mind.
While Duan Yixin and Chi Xinru were talking, their carriage drove through the city gate. Chi Xiyou drove towards the refugee camp at a fast speed, followed by Zhan Wenmin’s group. When they arrived, the first rays of sunlight were just rising over the eastern horizon.
Chi Xiyou stopped the carriage not far from the temporary infirmary and said, “We are here.”
Chi Xinru opened the curtain and jumped out of the carriage. After putting down the footstool, she helped Duan Yixin down. Zhan Wenmin saw them coming down and walked up to them.
Before he could get closer, he saw a tall and handsome man wearing a silver mask getting out of the carriage behind Duan Yixin. The moment his eyes fell on the man’s silver mask and the jade token hanging on his waist, Zhan Wenmin almost had a heart attack.
Duan Yixin saw him standing there with a pale face and asked, “Master Zhan, are you alright? Your face doesn’t look good.”
Zhan Wenmin came to his senses and asked hesitantly, “Eldest Young Lady, the two of you–”
Duan Yixin followed his line of sight and found that he was staring at Xuan Ruiquan. She reached out and held Xuan Ruiquan’s hand, then looked at Zhan Wenmin and smiled, “This is my fiancé. If you come from the imperial capital city, you might know him. His name is Xuan Ruiquan.”
As soon as she said these words, Zhan Wenmin’s heart sank, and he could only look at the two of them in shock.
Xuan Ruiquan felt unhappy when he saw Zhan Wenmin’s expression. He frowned slightly and asked, “Why? Do you think Ben Wang can’t be Xin’er’s fiancée?”
As soon as he finished speaking, Zhan Wenmin came back to his senses. He has known Xuan Ruiquan since he was a child and knows that although Xuan Ruiquan is young, he is ruthless. Recalling Xie Yanghui’s warning back then, Zhan Wenmin quickly controlled his expression.
He clasped his fists and smiled politely, “Wangye, you misunderstood.”
Xuan Ruiquan raised his eyebrows slightly and asked, “Oh? Do you think Ben Wang is blind?”
Hearing this, Zhan Wenmin’s smile froze. After a moment of silence, he said, “Wangye is joking. What surprises me is the fact that the Eldest Young Lady is actually your fiancée. Please forgive my rude behavior.”
Hearing this, Xuan Ruiquan became even more unhappy. He sneered and asked coldly, “Are you saying that Xin’er is not worthy of being Ben Wang’s Wangfei?”
As soon as these words came out, Zhan Wenmin felt a cold, murderous aura pressing down on him. He was covered in cold sweat and said hurriedly, “Wangye, please forgive my mistake.”
Thinking that they would meet often in the future after he married Duan Yixin, Xuan Ruiquan didn’t say anything and just let the matter pass. Seeing this, Zhan Wenmin secretly breathed a sigh of relief and asked, “Eldest Young Lady, do you need our help?”
Duan Yixin saw Chi Xinru carrying the medicine out of the carriage and said, “There is no need to trouble you. We will hand over the medicine, and we can leave.”
Zhan Wenmin nodded and said, “Then this subordinate will wait for you here.”
After watching Duan Yixin, Xuan Ruiquan, and Chi Xinru walk to the emergency infirmary, Zhan Wenmin turned to look at Chi Xiyou. Originally, he wanted to get some information from him. But seeing Chi Xiyou sleeping with his eyes closed, Zhan Wenmin had no choice but to return to his carriage.
