Chapter 282: Nightmare
After Chi Xiyou put down the footstool, Xuan Ruiquan helped Duan Yixin get on the carriage. Chi Xiyou waved to one of Zhan Wenmin’s men and said, “We are leaving now. Do you want to go together?”
The captain nodded and replied, “Yes. We will follow the Eldest Young Lady and escort her back to the imperial capital city.”
Now that the decision had been made, Chi Xiyou just nodded. Before, he was worried that Grandpa Duan’s enemies would attack them on their journey. But now, with the addition of Zhan Wenmin and his subordinates, their way to the imperial capital city should be safer.
After everyone got on the carriage, Chi Xiyou flicked his whip and drove away from the refugee camp, followed by Zhan Wenmin and others.
In the carriage, Xuan Ruiquan was grinding ink for Duan Xiyin. After he prepared the ink, Duan Yixin picked up the writing brush and began to write down in detail how to make medicine to treat the plague.
After she was done, she put the writing brush on the brush holder and said, “Follow these instructions, and refining the medicine will be no problem.”
Xuan Ruiquan nodded, took the paper, and made more than ten copies. Duan Yixin, who was sitting next to him, looked at the words on the paper. When she saw the familiar handwriting, she looked away from the paper and looked at him.
Sensing her intense gaze, Xuan Ruiquan looked at her helplessly. He came close to her, lowered his head, and whispered, “Xin’er, if you keep staring at me like this, I might not be able to help but kiss you in front of Miss Chi.”
Hearing this, Duan Yixin blushed. She pushed him gently and said in a low voice, “Behave yourself.”
Xuan Ruiquan chuckled and continued to copy the instructions. When he was done, he folded them one by one and put them in a separate envelope.
Duan Yixin watched him put away the envelopes and asked, “Are you going to send them to other refugee camps?”
Xuan Ruiquan nodded, “When we take a break, I will have someone deliver these.”
While they were on their way, time passed quickly. When Chi Xiyou finally pulled the reins, the sky was already dyed orange.
Chi Xiyou jumped down from the driver’s seat and took out the footstool from under the carriage. After placing it next to the carriage, he opened the curtain and looked inside. Seeing that his younger sister and Duan Yixin were asleep, Chi Xiyou spoke in a low voice to Xuan Ruiquan.
“Should we wake them up?”
Xuan Ruiquan shook his head and whispered, “Let them sleep a little longer.”
Chi Xiyou nodded and whispered back, “Then I will prepare dinner first.”
After Xuan Ruiquan nodded to him, Chi Xiyou put down the curtain and went to collect firewood. Not long after, Chi Xinru woke up. She yawned and asked in a hoarse voice, “Where are we?”
Xuan Ruiquan said, “We have left the suburbs of Hua Shan Town. Your elder brother is preparing dinner now.”
Chi Xinru rubbed her eyes and said, “I will help him.”
After she left, Duan Yixin moved a little and woke up. Xuan Ruiquan waited until she woke up completely and then asked gently, “Are you hungry?”
Duan Yixin nodded sleepily and said, “A little bit.”
Xuan Ruiquan looked at her and thought she was so cute with her dazed face. Unlike her usual calm and mature expression, her current expression melted his heart and made him fall in love with her even more. Realizing that he actually loved her more today than yesterday, Xuan Ruiquan chuckled.
Listening to his low laughter, Duan Yixin tilted her head slightly to look at him in confusion. Xuan Ruiquan rubbed her cheek and said softly, “Let’s go out and help others prepare dinner.”
Although she was still confused, Duan Yixin nodded in agreement. Seeing the two of them coming out of the carriage, Zhan Wenmin walked up to them and said, “Eldest Young Lady, Wangye, dinner is ready. How about joining us?”
Seeing that the Chi siblings were already eating with Zhan Wenmin’s group, Xuan Ruiquan agreed, “Thank you for your hard work.”
Zhan Wenmin smiled, made a gesture of invitation, and said, “Wangye, Eldest Young Lady, please.”
While they were eating a simple dinner and chatting, Wan Sifan, who was far away in the imperial capital city, had a nightmare. Lying on the large bed, he was covered in cold sweat, and his hair stuck to the side of his face.
“Ugh…” He groaned in pain while falling deeper into the nightmare.
In his dream, Wan Sifan watched Liang Jiaying being tortured in front of him. Every time a black lightning bolt struck Liang Jiaying’s body and ripped open her flesh, he bore the same pain as her. He lay on the ground with his hands clenched and looked at her while enduring the pain.

Wan Sifan was confused by his feelings. He should be disgusted with Liang Jiaying, but at this moment, all he feels is love and reluctance to let her suffer. Just as he was still trying to sort out his feelings, the sky lit up again, and the sound of rolling thunder sounded around him.
A bright light enveloped the surroundings, blinding Wan Sifan’s eyes. The next second, an enormous black thunder struck down. Liang Jiaying screamed as the black thunderbolt struck her body without mercy.
Crack! Boom!
“Ah!”
Wan Sifan’s pupil shrunk, and he stretched out his hand to her, shouting in despair, “No–!”
His desperate cry was swallowed up by deafening thunder, and the earth shook violently.
When the bright light disappeared, he saw Liang Jiaying lying motionless on the scorched ground. He gritted his teeth and crawled toward her with difficulty, staining the ground with his blood. After a long time, he finally came to her side.
Wan Sifan stretched out his hand tremblingly and pushed the hair away from Liang Jiaying’s face.
